The keypad wasn't recognized when you were trying to install it? This has happened to me in a past test when I tried a used system. The keypad might reset after you take out the batteries. When the app ask you to choose a plan, you can choose the option at the very bottom that says "decline 30 free trial" who will give you the free service.
It is, but it probably won't be much help with the way this camera's designed. SimpliSafe has designated outdoor cameras that might be a better solution. This new camera's indoor-only and keeps its shutter closed unless the system is armed and triggered or you schedule it to open.

Sure! You can set up the system with just a keypad or just sensors. DIY security like this can look different depending on what you're wanting to add. But all of it does need the app to connect to the system. Hope that helps!

an indoor camera through a window wont catch any motion and the night vision wont work either

The indoor camera is horrible in a room with dim or no lights. No night vision contrary to its claim
They didn't send you an outdoor camera? Probably because they are awful and unreliable. Its a good alarm system but an awful CCTV options.
