I was thinking the same thing... The Bach's Prelude was composed firstly, and a lot of years after this, the Vocals was composed [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ave_Maria_(Bach/Gounod)] Anyway, this music and this performance of Kassia was so amazing and peaceful!

This sounds like prelude in c major with a few notes added to the right hand. By themselves the two parts would sound a bit dull but together it’s impressive❤

I recently learned this piece without vocal. I never thought it's possible to play the vocals (cello) and piano on the same piano. This comes to me as a hugeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee surprise. BRAVO !

I get it now!! I always knew Gounod’s Ave Maria was based on Bach’s Prelude no. 1 in C, but I always had difficulty keeping track of it when listening to fully orchestrated arrangements with voice etc. I can se now that it’s all there in its entirety. Its Ave Maria by Gounod played over top of Bach's Prelude in C. It fits perfect. I dont know how Gounod did it but he did it but its incredible.
