@tankes The piano piece is Bach's Prelude in C Maj. Gounod composed Ave Maria vocals to that Bach piece.
In this piece she plays both Bach and the vocals on the piano. It's two parts played together.

@@bozzigmupp510 . . . I know, it's Gounod's Ave Maria. That's why it's Bach/Gounod. Ave Maria is a prayer. Schubert and Gounod have just composed different ways of singing it.

The Bach piece or this composition? Bach's Prelude in C major is a great piece to learn and isn't that complicated.
This is a unique composition that also includes Gounod's Ave Maria vocals into the piano.
The piano-only Gounod arrangement is so underrated
This song is a part of life a way to make people smile again this will never be forgotten as long as one person remember it this song is something brought through generations and always stays as a piece of art in the world of music

This was one of my first pieces I have learned, along with Bach's Minuet in G Major and Bach's Air. This makes me feel nostalgic.

I was thinking the same thing... The Bach's Prelude was composed firstly, and a lot of years after this, the Vocals was composed [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ave_Maria_(Bach/Gounod)]
Anyway, this music and this performance of Kassia was so amazing and peaceful!
Its Ave Maria by Gounod played over top of Bach's Prelude in C. It fits perfect. I dont know how Gounod did it but he did it but its incredible.

I love this!! Bach's 1st Prelude was the first I learned as a kid, and I remember my mom used to sing the upper voice from this transcription while I played it. Thanks for the memories!

I recently learned this piece without vocal. I never thought it's possible to play the vocals (cello) and piano on the same piano. This comes to me as a hugeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee surprise. BRAVO !

This sounds like prelude in c major with a few notes added to the right hand. By themselves the two parts would sound a bit dull but together it’s impressive❤

Oh Kassia! What a beautiful, smooth, and sparkling version of this piece...one of the greatest works of all time! Your technique is absolutely flawless and I love this version. BRAVO!! I did an improvisational version of this work and posted awhile back...probably about 4 years ago. I occasionally play the original prelude to warm up and could resist blending in the work of Gounod as I had dabbled with it over the years, so I went on memory and added my own variations :-) Thank you for your wonderful artistry! ~Jackie
No longer Catholic but I still love this song. Wish the Latter-day Saints (my current faith) would adopt this tune given the high regard for Mary's role that we do.
I get it now!! I always knew Gounod’s Ave Maria was based on Bach’s Prelude no. 1 in C, but I always had difficulty keeping track of it when listening to fully orchestrated arrangements with voice etc. I can se now that it’s all there in its entirety.
