Hi Bus Driver Life! I've made it to the next step in the recruitment process for being a bus driver and I've been watching many bus driver videos to get some different perspectives. In Australia, our public buses are much better equipped with metal cages/shields for safety as standard, so there's a plus. I'm feeling a bit intimidated being a woman in this industry, but due to COVID-19 and the area I live, my career paths are much more limited. I don't mind working in a male dominated industry. I've had drinks thrown on me, sauce and pickles thrown, cleaning vomit, pee and diarrhoea off the floor, grown men drunk fighting in the middle of a restaurant with blood splattering everywhere, dealing with incompetent management and head office constantly, rude and entitled customers who think they know more than you... etc etc. I think this is a better fit for me, as I'm very good at dealing with situations on my own and I'm very self-reliant. I've done management before. I like the idea of no boss breathing down my neck like at retail or office jobs, and you can be more firm with customers in a role like this under the guise of "safety". Usually were not supposed to use our phones while on the bus at all. Supposed to be completely off the bus when using the phone. Did you get permission to use your phone on the bus since your vlogging?
Those are not the rules where I drive. Our phones are to be shut down and stowed at all times while in service. We are allowed to use our phones on or off the bus during breaks/recovery time. If there is ever any footage of me while driving..someone else would be filming from outside of the drivers area. Also questions like this calling me out publicly are always kind of interesting.
@@BusDriverLife Thank you My humble brother and King of Kings for your speedy response. I appreciate it so much. Actually to be honest, this was so unexpected. But to say this is to say I wasn't trying to call you out publicly. To be honest. I'm just starting this on My career as we speak Myself. I thought about doing this exact same thing that you are doing. It came as an idea ,but then we are told rule of thumb we are not allowed to have our phones period. Only basically during any breaks but it must be of the bus. Not on at all or vibrate. If we are caught utilizing our phones on the bus at all its a done deal. I admire what you are doing and your doing a great job from what I see. I have kids so yes you are correct though, they are stowed away at all times while driving. Being I have kids though I will check off.the bus at break time if any missed important calls. Again appreciate the heads head and have a great weekend. Enjoy your evening King!
Matthew Really depends on the route and time of day..can be anywhere from 3 minutes to 20 minutes..but of course a busy trip can cut down or eliminate that layover. It’s so unpredictable out here.
Scott Ziegler It’s all voluntary for us. It works out for the company though because all of the higher seniority drivers take most of the OT. They will just work every single day.
@@BusDriverLife Thanks! I have an interview on Friday driving in Lincoln, NE and that's a question I want to ask. Voluntary OT is good, mandatory OT not so good, at least for me!
I think I've now watched about 9 videos from your channel, never educational information. I've ridden many metro buses, but I've always had my fair, headphone and I find my seat & stay out of the way. I have seen the full grown adult problem children though. What's the kindness thing a rider can do for a bus driver? I want to charge up my karma points.
yea people get upset. It is because people rely on the bus to get to work. If the bus comes 10 minutes early or doesn't stop or is late you can get fired! Many employers could care less if its the buses fault.
Yup..I totally understand why people get upset..I’m just trying to get those same people to understand why it happens. It’s normally NOT the bus drivers fault..so we do not deserve to be yelled at..disrespected..or assaulted because of it. I definitely appreciate you watching!
@Paul Smith it doesn't work like that. The bus already comes at inconvient times and doesnt alayas have another one and it sucks to have to wait 30 mins to an hour before and after work. You are asking people to guess or go an extra hour early every day wastes people's time. Normally people go on the bus for an hour for a route that would already only take 20 mins by car. 2 hours each way for a 20 minute drive is insane. Then the companies make you wait in a security line unpaid an extra hour for this next to minimum wage job.
@Paul Smith as somone who has ridden a bus for years to get to work and been blamed numerous times for being late at the fault of the bus I can tell you there have been times it came 10 minutes early

Thank you for what you do my friend, I am a Fellow Bus driver For a School bus company in my Area, and I wanted you to know Some i have it hard & Some days it's really really Smooth, I drive a 37 passenger School with Disabled kids, I tell you my friend we are Life Savers for our public where it Counts ♥ Stay Safe and Strong my My Bruh. From your Sister..! 😁❤🇺🇸🌈✝️🦋👍🏽
Hey I appreciate that!! I’m glad to be apart of this community with people like you!!
There are different reasons. What if you want to leave the bus for a piss. You can’t leave people on that bus. Can you?
Bless you all
Thank you!
I'm a bus driver in Modesto. I'd like to chat with you if we can make that a possibility. I'm looking into other options.
I'm sorry.... I did my stent with MAX. I lasted 6 months before I quit and drove for Modesto City Schools.
(1) Hey BDL if your assaulted and you defend yourself do you get arrested????
(2) Does the bus driver get written up????
(3) What happens if your driving the bus and get into a car accident and the person asked for your insurance????
Great Questions!! I’m gonna answer in a video or two coming soon!!
I wish we could see the full trip
I wish I could show everything..at some point in the future if someone films a trip and allows me to use the footage I’ll definitely share.
@@BusDriverLife thanks that'd be cool. I've taken an interest in buses lately.
Dude my company is going on strike hahhaa😂😂😂😂 wooo!!!
BTW appreciate the person filming for you and helping you out!!! 😃
I'm a bus driver myself, I know how that is.
Cool..thanks for watching!!
You're so cool dude.
How long are you going to be a bus driver
give us tips about how you drive a bus
Gheorghe Inab That’s a great idea. I’ll add that to my list of upcoming videos!
@@BusDriverLife thanx man i watching you from Romania
Gheorghe Inab That’s awesome!
Because right now I want to see you
Do you guys have owl services
Not yet..they have talked about it but in Sacramento I can only think of a couple routes that would benefit from that.
Is the training program hard and do alot of people fail it
It can be challenging but if you dedicate most of your time those few weeks to training..you will pass. Sorry for the late response.
Also, how long are your layovers?
Matthew Really depends on the route and time of day..can be anywhere from 3 minutes to 20 minutes..but of course a busy trip can cut down or eliminate that layover. It’s so unpredictable out here.
Bus Driver Life thanks man. I’m debating on going back to diving but it’s a hard decision
Awesome video I will become a city bus driver for detroit once I graduate high school.
Thanks bro..and good luck with everything!! It’s a good job to have!
@@BusDriverLife No problem and thanks again. I subscribed to your channel.
I just started with the city of Detroit!
@@tdevianc679 I'm still waiting for the training to start it start August 9th
I know every transit company is different, but what is overtime like for you? Is it usually voluntary or is there some mandatory OT to deal with?
Scott Ziegler It’s all voluntary for us. It works out for the company though because all of the higher seniority drivers take most of the OT. They will just work every single day.
@@BusDriverLife Thanks! I have an interview on Friday driving in Lincoln, NE and that's a question I want to ask. Voluntary OT is good, mandatory OT not so good, at least for me!
Scott Ziegler Yeah I dislike mandatory OT..doesn’t seem fair and it interferes with your personal life.
@@BusDriverLife Well, I got offered that driving job. I'm going to think it over for the next hour, but more than likely I'm going to accept.
Scott Ziegler That’s awesome! No matter what you decide..it’s really cool that you got the job offer!
We’re dew you drive at
nik Renoface Can’t specify on my TH-cam channel but I’m in the Sacramento CA area.
yea people get upset.
Man they have no idea how mentally exhausted we are
