My new Shock N Awe weighs 23.3 ounces, after the silly lanyard is trimmed. The new sheath design is badass, with just a spike toggle safety, and the hawk then can be rolled out forward while back spinning it into hand and then throwing it.
I've been interested in that hawk. I did wonder why it was more expensive than SOG and Cold Steels competing hawks, especially since S&W knives are usually less expensive. But I do want to try it in the future.
Great vid! It is a little on the short side, and the resin coated para-cord is uncomfortable unless you wear gloves. I cut the cord off and replaced it with hockey tape. The only reason I carried it was due to it's small size, a bigger hawk seemed to always be in the way or snagging on other kit. And, I really liked the fact that it was one piece steel vs having metal bolted onto plastic.
I have the folder, but I wasn't too impressed with it because the handle scales and blade finish just felt really cheap in person. Someone told though that the fixed blade is better.
could u possibly do a review of the S&W tactical "extraction and evasion " tomahawk i bought it but its soo heavy and the handle grip is really bad, but its a really solid hawk
Thanks, yeah exactly. I think Browning needs to at least mention the issue of it being miniature and make a good case in their ads for why they chose that. I could see them wanting it small so vehicle crewman or pilots could carry one, but they don't really mention that in their marketing at all.
Just purchased one for Christmas. I was looking at RMJ's but the price tags on those suckers are much to high for me. I was looking at the M48's but was concerned with the head getting loose with use over time and wanted at solid construction hawk and something small enough I can take with me back packing and not get in the way. This one looks like it should do what I need. Just wish it was a little bigger and lower on the price. But over all, I'm happy with it.
You made a very nice set of comparisons. We could see exactly how small this miniature Tomahawk is. Also I was impressed with sheath. This sheath is good if the retention is good.
cool, thanks. i figured it would be, just wasn't too sure because i haven't seen or read many reviews about it anyone throwing it and how it holds up and what not but it feels and looks so perfect
Im thinking its more expensive because its thick and strong, and is one solid peice of high carbon steel compaired to the SOG, and Cold Steel hawks. I like the SOG, and CS hawks, but I bought the S&W because I knew it would last forever, with no worry about the handle breaking. But this Browning Hawk looks like a good choice too, only a bit too small, like you say in the video.
I also bought a hawk made by another company known for guns, S&W Extraction & Evasion Tomahawk. one solid piece of 1070 high carbon steel. Its a beast. I took off the scales it came with, and wrapped it with paracord in a strider wrap... I recomend the S&W if you want a really good extraction/fighting hawk for an affordable price.... theres only one review of it on youtube. You should get it, and do a review. if you do, you wont be disapointed with it.
I'd like to see a use video too when you get the chance. curious how the small size/high weight works out in chopping. between this one and a sog fasthawk for hiking/backpacking
i have this, i like it. it could do with a little more weight at the head and the sheath absolutely sucks, within about 2 months the sheath had weakened to the point where it was falling out when it was supposed to be completely secure. and people dont seem to think about how much the slightly curved spike can be useful
if your getting started there is a mid ranged one the cold steel trench hawk it is plenty good at all of those i love mine and i have much more expensive ones too
Great sheath for the price. Good steel, and it's a single piece. Needs to be a lot longer though for the general user, but it does look like it would be a nice thrower...
Hawks became popular in the military because of their versatility. The main thing they have to consider in battle is penetration. You could try your damnedest to get a knife through a car or a thick combat vest and most likely fail. With the hawk you can disabled cars in many different ways as well as have the multi-tool survival. You should check out car disabling videos.
That is a Mil-Tac Warrior. They don't make them anymore, but the closest thing to it these days would be some of the Entrek designs, such as this Entrek Cobra: th-cam.com/video/XOl6HebjF88/w-d-xo.html
so is it sturdy enough to throw a bunch? I just got one of these yesterday and after breaking multiple other cheap-o's throwing them, (was told they were made for throwing) i really dont want this one to ever break..
hey man im 16 im going on a survival trip (means me and my friends dont bring eny thing by water food and survaival things like first aid kit flint and steel and things like that) so i would love to hear what you think: should i buy a tomahawk to get wood or should i buy a machette and have thoes more precised cuts?
If I'm not mistaken, Jared wahongi designed it with Kali/escrima in mind ( he seems to be a legit authority on Philipino & Maori combat) and not as a bush/camp axe/hatchet, what is good for making kindling is not necessarily good for martial arts.. it's like comparing a 1000cc cafe racer moterbike to a Harley, different market for a different crowd...
Greatings Sensai. Im just starting with hawks and i wana go for a high end one. I want a all in one hawk that is first of all a good fighter then a decent chopper and breaker. For use in the woods and urban environment. So who to ask but you, i was thinking. I have come up with some brands that i hope you could look at. 1.Sayoc/Winkler Hawks, 2.Hardcore Hardware Australia LFT01, 3.Self Reliance Essentials, 4.American Kami, 5.RMJ and Benchmade 2013 mod. Sincerely.
Your question; "How you use it" ... well....play with it. YOU figure out just hold many grab, pulls, holds, come-along's this design allows......ALLOT! Stick the pike in your nose, an ear, an eye and in ones mouth-cheek, armpit or crotch and begin to turn / rock the axe face this way and that way paying attention to precise leverage... its 'Fulcrum Point'' in relation to axe edge, the pike and handle stem .... right off you will see just how effective this little beast becomes. Notice how the 'beard' cutaway shape fits directly about an opponents wrist to trap and move him. IF those measurements/distances were off even a bit then these abilities simply would not be present and this Hawk would then be no different than any other on the market. The shape and distance from one business end to the other is quite remarkable. Compare side by side photos of other smaller combat axes and right off see the key differences. This is an incredible 'multi-force multiplier'' . Ive seen dozens of hawks with the exact same components ...yet... the placement, the distance., the angles built into those designs DO NOT allow you nearly as many trapping and holding, pulling techniques. As small as it is...it works exceptionally well. This Hawk truly shines... ONCE YOU DISCOVER ITS DESIGN advantages when atop and adversary's arms or legs etc etc. Im most curious to know if Browning is even aware of just what they have made ?? But its for real once its in your hands and you start to work it. Yes, when discovered ... I did buy another.... NO I do not have an invested interest with the designer nor browning. I do recommend this tool allot.
El Rico exactly. Just compramise the kangee t-hawk: the browning has a lot better shape for hooking and trapping and that is one of the important things at a hawk for me :)
hawk has hooking aspects. swinging opponent arms aside. trapping. hooking behind the leg. behind the neck to bully an adversary about as you work. it can also choke up high to the head and be used as a knife to slash. these are kept razored. not for wood. cheers
Cool, good info. I ordered one just now, I've been wanting a nice small hatchet/hawk. I have the SOG Speed Hawk, but I found even that was a little too big for what I was looking for. Glad it comes with a hard plastic sheath too.
Very good review, bro. I agree with your conclusion on it 100%. Looks really slick and compact design-wise, but since it's so small, it kinda loses it's advantage as a hawk I guess. It's hard to picture scenarios where it would be preferable to a large knife
agree with the rest, however I think this is an awesome axe/tomahawk for the pack, yes it does fall out of the kydex sheath. i will be using the heat gun on the sheath. it is sharp and is easy to sharpen.
I love axe throwing, but I don't think I'd get 10 of these. I also sadly don't have the room to do such at home and so only get to do so on rare occasions...
I love tomahawk! The Fast Hawk is nice but i can't get over this one particular type of tomahawk. Is going to be hard to describe without being too abstract because I don't know the name or style of it, my derpness. The best i can describe it... All around more elongated head and 2 inch bit face. Very much similar silhouette as a U-Boat cruising above water but without the tower. Doubt that did it any justice but i tried LOL
It is pretty. I'll take the CS trench hawk. It would be useful as a general tool in tight places. It lacks lenght, and for an old man like me I need every posible advantage. Great to carry in the car for emergencies, probably could use it as a pry bar in a small area. I am sure you have the ablity to make that hawk do some wild moves, I,on the ohter hand, am too old and slow. Father time is catching up. Won all the battles so far , but I will loose the war. But the fighting has been fun.
Damn...$60 for that? It seems like a nice Hawk and the sheath is pretty cool, but for that price. I got a Smith & Wesson Extraction & Evasion Tomahawk for the same price range...it looks like it would dwarf that Browning! But, the S&W has a crap sheath.
hmmm, not sure that one will find a place in my collection. The problem is that I would be tempted to throw it and would end up unarmed..ha. Nice vid man.
btw: the lock is very effective, but a moments carelessness will result in a nasty cut. yeah, i got one. the hawk will pop out very abruptly. remember, grip close to the blade gives more control.
I don't like to argue about everything, but saying a same length knife is a better weapon? A knife is lighter, and thus is better for fast attacks, but with an axe, you have big momentum, you can use the back to stun, and with proper technique, it is good for "blocking". But to be honest, in a fight, where two men use similarly short weapons, the one who causes the bigger damage, wins. And there comes the spike! a thrust is far weaker than a swing with a spike. So don't underestimate it!
I want to get a Fox Commanche Hawk or the American Tomahawk version, eventually.
My new Shock N Awe weighs 23.3 ounces, after the silly lanyard is trimmed. The new sheath design is badass, with just a spike toggle safety, and the hawk then can be rolled out forward while back spinning it into hand and then throwing it.
Who needs guns when you have badass melee weapons?!

Flitz or Metal Glo for the metal. Not sure about the wrap.
I prefer a heavy machete or kukri, because they give you more edge length to work with.
Thanks, yeah exactly. I think Browning needs to at least mention the issue of it being miniature and make a good case in their ads for why they chose that. I could see them wanting it small so vehicle crewman or pilots could carry one, but they don't really mention that in their marketing at all.

I agree with your description but would add that it would be high noon and in the distance a dog would bark :]
I will check them out. Looks like all pretty high end 'hawks, I'm sure they're good probably better than most of us need!
I probably will make a chopping video eventually, stay tuned.
I would use the Estwing Rigger's Hatchet. It's not a 'hawk, but still.
It could be used for throwing. No, the cord wrap gives it a pretty good grip already.
You made a very nice set of comparisons. We could see exactly how small this miniature Tomahawk is. Also I was impressed with sheath. This sheath is good if the retention is good.
actually the black label line does have some higer end stuff like the hellfire.
nice hawk, i might have to get one.
cool, thanks. i figured it would be, just wasn't too sure because i haven't seen or read many reviews about it anyone throwing it and how it holds up and what not but it feels and looks so perfect

But this Browning Hawk looks like a good choice too, only a bit too small, like you say in the video.
I know they cost an arm and a leg, but it would be cool if you reviewed a RMJ Tactical Shrike or Kestrel tomahawk.
I also bought a hawk made by another company known for guns, S&W Extraction & Evasion Tomahawk. one solid piece of 1070 high carbon steel. Its a beast. I took off the scales it came with, and wrapped it with paracord in a strider wrap... glad you like it!
any chance you would do a review on the black label pandemonium folder and fixed blade? would love to see your take on it, especially the folder.
I love my benchmade tomahawk, nothing better. I like it more than my RMJ.
Man i've been wanting a minihawk like this for forever. Its got a nice menacing look to it, unlike the Fast Hawk.
That is probably more adapt to the Espada E Daga knife system. They actually train with tomahawk along with the dagger and sword.
if your getting started there is a mid ranged one the cold steel trench hawk it is plenty good at all of those i love mine and i have much more expensive ones too
What damage this little piece of beauty could do! Drool...
Great sheath for the price. Good steel, and it's a single piece. Needs to be a lot longer though for the general user, but it does look like it would be a nice thrower...

It's really nice looking! It's the first "not about folders" video of yours I actually watched:))
hey WAJK, what knife is on 6:30? could you please give a link to that knife? or maybe make a review for it. look like a great knife
That is a Mil-Tac Warrior. They don't make them anymore, but the closest thing to it these days would be some of the Entrek designs, such as this Entrek Cobra: th-cam.com/video/XOl6HebjF88/w-d-xo.html
seems great if you can use that as a double with that in your off hand and a knife or gun in the other
so is it sturdy enough to throw a bunch? I just got one of these yesterday and after breaking multiple other cheap-o's throwing them, (was told they were made for throwing) i really dont want this one to ever break..
That thing looks awesome!
Amazon has some in stock now I think, also try brownings website might have some. I got mine from a local sportsmans werehouse
Awesome I also like your knives I have four really cool folders have you herd of m tech?
Awesome, glad you found it!
hey man im 16 im going on a survival trip (means me and my friends dont bring eny thing by water food and survaival things like first aid kit flint and steel and things like that) so i would love to hear what you think:

Would you recommended this or the SOG voodoo? I know this one is a bit more in price.
Dude you are hilarious. The "In case you're a bit slow..." killed me xD
Greatings Sensai. Im just starting with hawks and i wana go for a high end one. I want a all in one hawk that is first of all a good fighter then a decent chopper and breaker. Sincerely.
Thats a good looking hawk. I'd get it for $40 but probably not at $60. If the handle was longer then yes $60.
That SPIKE in a Temple? Game OVER!! LOL
Your question; "How you use it" ... well....play with it. YOU figure out just hold many grab, pulls, holds, come-along's this design allows......ALLOT! Just compramise the kangee t-hawk: the browning has a lot better shape for hooking and trapping and that is one of the important things at a hawk for me :)
what do u think would be a good way to clean the grip lacing and blade?
They are more known for their guns, but this could be your first.
Hey does anyone know where to buy this is Canada? Particularly the Ontario province, Great Lakes area
hawk has hooking aspects. swinging opponent arms aside. trapping. hooking behind the leg. behind the neck to bully an adversary about as you work. it can also choke up high to the head and be used as a knife to slash. these are kept razored. not for wood. cheers
About the handle wrap, is it just plain gutted paracord wrap, or is it something like a resin-infused wrap that makes the cord solid?
Yes, I think it has resin, much like the wrap on the James Williams knives, it is stiffened and gives a good grip.
Cool, good info. I ordered one just now, I've been wanting a nice small hatchet/hawk. I have the SOG Speed Hawk, but I found even that was a little too big for what I was looking for. Glad it comes with a hard plastic sheath too.
Do you have a vid of you using it
Very good review, bro. I agree with your conclusion on it 100%. Looks really slick and compact design-wise, but since it's so small, it kinda loses it's advantage as a hawk I guess. It's hard to picture scenarios where it would be preferable to a large knife

I shall make one
I think it is sturdy enough!
that'd be some dangerous training
Wow that's nice. I love the design. I add about 3 inches to handle and it be perfect.
Do you have a link for the Ray Ellis Warrior Knife? Thanks.
I wanna see someone get 10 of these and use them as his fun throwers lol.
yes i agree with you...i hate it when people think there budk hawk can do everything...i love my browning hawk.
I have one for quartering deer in the woods. very sharp and compact. works great.
how thick is it? thank you
We need to make some videos together, you are the man.
I love axe throwing, but I don't think I'd get 10 of these.
I also sadly don't have the room to do such at home and
so only get to do so on rare occasions...
I have been monitoring the international situation and am ready to step up and intervene, if necessary. LOL.
Is the handle wrap resin impregnated like a hisshou would be?
Justin Prather Yes it's hardened with resin
Thanks!
Wait just a minute, you mean to tell me that all this time, you are not a real ninja? :]
I love tomahawk! The Fast Hawk is nice but i can't get over this one particular type of tomahawk. Is going to be hard to describe without being too abstract because I don't know the name or style of it, my derpness. The best i can describe it... All around more elongated head and 2 inch bit face. Great review man. Between this one and the Estwing Black Eagle tomahawk, which one would you choose and why?
I would choose this because the balance is a lot more topheavy and it has more edge length, so stronger chops and better slices.
And between this and the shock n' awesome?
Sweet little thing!
U are the best. Giving of youre knowledge and youre time to answer. Much appreciated. Thanks.
Santa was nice to you!
Well I can do some moves that would be suicide without a lanyard locking me in right lol. Don't leave the mortal coil too soon!
This is a lot better, but be aware it's even shorter.
dont forget that spike can be used to finish off someone
Can you pls tell its thickness?
i dont think it went through
How would it be on a longer handle do you think?
+Jon English They have a longer one now, it's good!
WeAllJuggleKnives Thank you.
thanks a lot for the quick reply.
get a kydex shoulder rig and you can edc that thing under a coat.
I LOVE that holster/sheath!! The hawk? Meh.. Larger would be great! And perhaps a little slimmer.
Knifeworks has 'em
I have to think it is more of a knife for camping, and preparing game (like a cleaver in a kitchen.)
Damn...$60 for that? It seems like a nice Hawk and the sheath is pretty cool, but for that price. I got a Smith & Wesson Extraction & Evasion Tomahawk for the same price range...it looks like it would dwarf that Browning! But, the S&W has a crap sheath.
it is a awesome tomahawk the black finish is amazing
Excellent video, man.
hmmm, not sure that one will find a place in my collection. The problem is that I would be tempted to throw it and would end up unarmed..ha. Nice vid man.
Sorry, I just review them, I don't sell them.
btw: the lock is very effective, but a moments carelessness will result in a nasty cut. yeah, i got one. the hawk will pop out very abruptly. remember, grip close to the blade gives more control.
Indeed :]

They should have called it a tactical hatchet.
Toxic green with alternate spare paint can of toxic yellow lol.
Great review. Kinda expensive but seems well built.
Expensive?!? Did you want it for $19.95? It's cheaper than a RMJ Jenny Wren or any other full-tang brand-name hawk that isn't a 420j2 p.o.s....
Quality costs extra. You get what ya pay for
