THAT song is sooo F***ing gooood!!! That entire album, for that matter is just one of the absolute all time bests. A near perfect album. Shape of My Heart, It’s Probably Me, Seven Days, Love is Stronger Than Justice; The Munificent Seven…..I mean, c’mon!!!
it's not easy at all 😂😂 the notes are easy the fingerings are not. It's one of the hardest things I've have to play. Most things are hard because of speed and complexity. But with this you'll just break your wrist trying to reach the notes to keep it going smooth.
It's understandable that people who created something "perfect" can turn a bit dogmatic. I'm pretty sure you could make many versions, placing emphasis on different aspects of the composition. Sting has done it himself so many times.
I resumed drumming after 40 years during the pandemic. I decided the best barometer of my progress would be playing along with Steely Dan albums--so many great drummers. Four years later, I still play those songs every day for at least an hour of my practice time. They never get old because--as Dominic says--I experiment with new patterns and fills on a regular basis.
Police was a great trio. Every breath you take was a song that is easy to fall in love with on first listen. I still remember where I was the first time I heard it. I was a young kid & I was at my boxing gym and I was jumping rope when it came on the radio. I had to wait after a few more songs to play before the DJ announced who the artists were for each song just played and I had my dad drive to the record store the following weekend and I bought that record. It was also the first record I had bought with my own money. Prior to that I was listening to hand me down records. Luckily I was the youngest sibling and my older sisters had decent tastes in music.
What a wholesome story from a different time. 🤩 Today those stories go like “I heard that song at the -boxing- club, and added it to my playlist.” There just are no such stories anymore.
Sting knew what he was doing the day he hired this man. One of the most talented guitarists out there with an enormous range of musical palettes plus a great composer in his own right. I recommend having a listen to his foray into the world of popular classical pieces, "Shapes". You won't regret it. Classical guitar has clearly been important to Dominic Miller.'s creation of his own style.
I feel that. In 1997, I peed my name into a snowbank perfectly. It was yellow calligraphy with enough flair to make a Shaolin monk blush. The sun eventually returned. My masterpiece melted. Sigh. Such is life. Beauty is always ephemeral and fleeting. Luckily, the Police saved their art in multiple non-melting mediums. We can enjoy it forever. Smart
I don’t understand, he says he can always finds nuance. And to prove it, he makes the point that he can’t improve in the riff so he plays it as originally written. So… what am I missing here?
@@timbok83 I don't think you're missing anything. I can't say exactly what Dom's thinking, but the nuance here may be that he can play it, again & again, the way we like to hear it. It's the consistency of Dom's original lick, that's the nuance. And believe it or not there are still people hearing this song for their first time.
@@paulpennington-mv7rt ha, makes sense. Perhaps it’s more the subtle touch and feel of how he plays the notes the main riff live where he finds the nuance and it’s just a clip with poor context.
The true ( for good ) is that Sting after leaving The Police was looking for a guitar player with similar way to play like Andy Summers, he found this musician in Dominic Miller, also a melody and riffs master and also humble like Andy Both are Genius to me ❤
Dom is the man! You can hear his influence on dozens of Stings songs. Shape of my heart is the quintessential Dominic Miller!

Genius song
@@jamesmocharski4803 that and Nothing Like The Sun are top 2 for me, but several terrific songs on all Sting solo albums
@@jamesmocharski4803I have never heard of this album. I'm going to give it a listen.
That guitar sounds heavenly playing that riff
Andy Summers… LEGEND
Dominic Miller… Respects the legend
Sure, no argument
I wonder if they've ever met ...
I wish I could play his version when he’s messing around being sarcastic let alone the original. Great guitarist.
i can play the original but i feel like id butcher the version he noodled 😂
He just plays major chords /arpeggios 😅
In other words, take the arpeggios and change from minor to major.
I THINK that's what he does
@@BeatlesFan1975 really more of a person to person thing imo but yeah you got a point
the original is probably much easier. Just the first 3 notes of a major/minor scale.

Beautiful riff for a beautiful song.
What's so good is that the riff he just throws together is actually extremely good
What?😂 it was a joke on the same song just played generically and unenthusiastically.
@@HoseTheBeastTbf to the untrained ear there's something there that could be turned into a halfway decent song.
Quite tasty indeed
It's so wrong! XD

Smart man!
Sometimes perfection can only be duplicated. And that’s ok!!
Signature riffs. They are beautiful just the way they are
Love this dude. BRILLIANT guitar player
Excellent talk❤so humble and honest by Dominic.
That sounds beautiful.
The Police is so awesome! My favorite band for 4 decades!!!!♥️🤘🇧🇷

Yeah that's a pretty good choice cuz you're getting a wide array of everything
Guitar sounds lovely in this!
Both sound great.
But only one feels like that song
Gotta love Dominic. Stone cold badass, yet humble, and present enough to appreciate what he gets to do for a living.
I never get bored either such great art😊
Dominic is a world class monster 🙏

Dominic, excellent player.
Beautiful guitar
Yeh, what is it? A guitalele?
yea does anybody know? sounds great
What a good soul you have ❤❤❤
I’m so glad I found your channel. I have learned so much about the music industry and just music in general. Thank you very much.

"I'm So Glad"
Cream re-recorded that 1931 Skip James opus.
Was that Clapton fingerpicking that intro or was it Jack?

Brilliant to see live with sting.
He’s brilliant!
I was in shock when in that interview he tells he was born in Argentina. 🇦🇷 ❤
This man a genius❤❤❤
Man so good drums just start playing whenever he played the song
That guitar is a dope. I would love to own one of those and the colour is so cool

3 seconds. we know and love.
Inspired much. ❤
NEVER EVER STOP ✋️ 💯 PERCENT BEAUTIFUL AND AMAZING AND KEEPS YOU ALIVE AND KICKING FOREVER AND EVER LORETTA NICELY DONE ✔️
Love this
It's so hard to stay "simple" to bring the best (ever) possible riff.
Just B-R-I-L-L-A-N-T !!!!
WOOOOOW....THOSE TUNES!
Nice touch to add the drums underneath haha!
beautiful
Man i love that other rendition. ❤
Such a cool guy!
willem dafoe
that live in paris of every breath you take has amazing guitar chops
dude that extra rendition was sick lol, I wish they did a little 😆
Legendary
This made me laugh out loud! So well done! And so understandable!
this sideman is so refreshing and conversational. His guitar joins in the conversation seamlessly
the editing the top tier to get drums with his playing synced
All versions he just played became a whole new song in of itself
Look at that guitar. Sweet
His facial expressions say it all.
Fading in the track while he was playing was a sick editing touch
Humility 😮
Honestly I want to hear the rest of that version, that was pretty amazing that he just threw that out there on the fly! 😂
It's all about a good melody
2nd of all Andy Summers is a beast!
So Cool
That’s the opening riff to every air your breathe
I really like his messing about riff was really chilled.
I love the king swamp album… the first one.
Oh he is so right !!! 👏👏👏
I love Dom
Phenomenal player!
They don't make em like that anymore that's for sure.
He turned that into "every breath you take in the purple rain"...
"you learned to dance like that sarcastically?" energy at the end
Why did I learn it the super hard way when this guy just rawdogs it like this.
He plays a casual arpeggio and i’is great 😂
“I’m never gonna come up with a better riff than that” ***message in the bottle
Il est toujours le guitariste de sting😊😊😊😊😊
Dom is the best! Blue Team forever!
That was some good riffing off top of his head though
Right? I rather thought it was good.
Rick has a great laugh 😂😂
Dom is fenom I have seen you a bunch and your stuff is killer too. Peace
That new riff was actually 🔥 😂
Dom the goat
Sting gave the same reason for not getting bored with playing the same songs in a recent Radio 2 interview
Every "new" dollar he makes that he can add to all the "old" dollars he's made playing the same "old" songs is a reason to keep going.
Quel guitariste !
The perfect expression😂
I love Beato’s interviews, but did he really edit in the drums and bass each time Dom plays an example??
Dom is honest you can't improve on perfection!
I’ve learned that Andy summers is of of the greatest of all time. No one comes close to how creative his phrases are
Andy should have received writing credits on that one.
Haha that’s great
“Am I gonna do that?”
Just listened to him live tonight, truly amazing!
Disney should listen to this guy when they redo the songs in their classic films for the live action remakes. More is not always better.
