The Sigma C is only dust and weather resistant where the S is sealed, the S is also built like a tank so when you drop it under a moving Land Rover you still have a lens that works. Also the S is a lot sharper, especially at the faster burst rates of 10 fps + the 7D II and the 1D X gives you. Sometimes it's worth going totally commando where underwear is concerned if it means you still have a working lens that has caught all the shots you want. People talk about the weight of the S but it is lighter than most prime lenses of the same length, and I can manage it with a respiratory condition that causes a lot of upper body pain albeit for only short periods at a time. But someone a lot fitter should be able to manage it for a lot longer. Brilliant video and extremely interesting.
New from Tamron is the second gen 150-600 with many new features. All metal construction. All weather sealed. Built in Arca swiss mount. Faster focus speeds. Better coated glass. Several new VC modes and two new Teleconverters! A 1.4x and a 2.0x. I'm very excited about this.
Will you make a review of this new G2 version? i' can't decide which one i should buy: the sigma sport version, the new tamron g2 or the Nikon 200-500mm. I hope you can make a review of the new G2! ^^
yes, I have that lens and its amazing! I have the Nikon D7200 and that and a couple other Nikon portrait style lens. It is a VERY good beginner wildlife photography setup.
For the other A6000 users, or if you are on a budget, I recently picked up a used Sigma 150-600mm C (Lens Rentals:$600) and the MC-11($150 Sigma refurb)for my A6000 and a safari trip in South Africa. It works well. I can't compare it to a native Cannon mount, but I think it will be very usable for photographing most animals. Birds in flight will take practice, but so will aiming a 600mm (900mm effect) lens. I recommend picking up the USB dock (~$50) just to update the lens software. Holding this lens still will take practice, but it handles like a giant kit SEL 55-210. It can hunt a little on close objects, but part of this is learning curve. It's like going from a compact car to a bus. Once you find the target it tracks well, images are sharp and the stabilization, once initiated, works well. I shot passing boats and paddle boarders this afternoon, as practice, to as little as 1/15, 100 iso at 600mm (900mm effective) handheld. Two in three shots were passable. I would not recommend this but It illustrates the effectiveness of the stabilization. I really enjoy my A6000 hope this helps with those on the fence with the MC-11. I'm going on a self-drive safari and I could face going back to a bridge camera for reach..Spoiled..
Great recommendations! I need to know if this is your setup for the A6300. Link for the lens is unavailable. 1. Sigma 150-600mm 5-6.3 Contemporary DG OS HSM Lens for Canon 2.Sigma Mount Converter MC-11 For Use With Canon SGV Lenses for Sony E 3. Sigma 1.4x Teleconverter TC-1401 for Canon
Primes are preferred due to better f-stop and sharpness. My preferred combo is a Nikon D850 with Nikkor 300mm 2.8 af-s and a Nikkor D500 with a Sigma 500mm 4.0 and a Fuji X-T2 with a Fuji XF16-55mm 2.8. With top notch results.
Very helpful video! Thank you. I am going on safari for the first time and just got the Sigma150-600mm. I'm, wondering if this 26L backpack can hold 2 DSLRs with lenses attached? One being the 150-600 and one being a wider angle lens, as you suggested? Will they both fit like this in this backpack? I am debating between the 26L or 36L? What do you think for Africa, land safari, but also taking a smaller plane to Zanzibar after? Thanks.
Hi Lorain! The 26L is a great size and can hold both but not with the lens attached. You will need to remove the wide angle lens from the body and store the two sideways. The 36 can easily hold while still attached but it is BIG and I don’t think you want to deal with that on a smaller plane.
Thanks for you great video. I just got XferMax X8 to backing valuable data during shooting wildly, no PC or external card reader needed. It can working with CFast/XQD/SD, extreme copying speed 140MB/s. Small and palm-size.
Thanks so much. This is the best review for all this gear. I have a Canon 7D mark II and a Sony A6400 plus the mc11 and the Sigma 150-600 contemporary lens and have been looking for this review.
I have been twice and am going back in September! I used a Nikon 80-400 lens and got some amazing pics. I don't have a big budget so I rented the lens both time. Curios to see what your thoughts are about that?
Great info thanks Toby. I'm heading to Africa for 5 weeks at Christmas and am wondering whether to take an iPad or buy a MacBook for the trip for downloading photos from my memory cards and possibly some light editing. What device would you recommend/did you have on your trip.
One comment, one question: the volume while you were talking was really low, while the music on intro/outro almost blew out the speakers on my tv. When is the next vlog from the safari?
Thanks for all the info as always Toby. I don't want to be one of those guys but the audio levels need syncing. Your voice is very low; especially compared to the music.
Would you recommend Sigma 150-600 over Nikon 200-500 to use with D750? I am going to Arizona's Out of Africa Safari park next week. I rarely use these long focal lengths and Sigma will cost me few hundred dollars cheaper. The thing is I already have Panasonic 100-300 m43 lens (200-600mm eq) which I can use with my Panasonic GX7 m43 camera.... so I am pandering much much better the image quality on the Sigma will be...
In good light your photos will be quite similar between the GX7 with 100-300 and the D750 with 150-600. I have not directly compared the 150-600 and the 200-500. I would suspect they are very similar and go with the slightly cheaper Sigma
Just wondering if you use a longer prime as well as the telephotos??? I have the 200-500 on a d500 body and don’t feel comfortable enough to print much bigger than 8x10. Are you printing larger photos with the gear you use or do you also use a larger prime len?
Thanks Toby, very informative video. It is an exciting prospect that I could use the Sigma 150-600 with both my Canon 70D and A6000. Presumably it will work just as well with the A6000 and the Sigma MC-11 adapter?
I would not assume it will work as well - the a6300 offers some serious AF upgrades over the a6000 and some of that speed must come from the newer AF system. I suspect it will work, just not as fast and reliably.
Really appreciate this video Toby! Great review! i will be heading for tanzania in Feb'17, so I was searching for a tele zoom lens recommendation for the Nikon D500 which I had planned to get, until I came across your awesome videos. It was news to me that you can actually your a6300 with the sigma 150-600 and acheive good results in real life situations. Being a current sony A7ii user, I just never imagined sony focusing would work in a safari on a tele adapted lens. Considering the total cost however, would you recommend me getting the d500 (~$1700) or the a6300 +mc11 adaptor (~$1200)? Thanks!
Toby, would really appreciate if you can also comment on 1) how often is 150mm not wide enough when the animal is too close on an apsc body, 2) what are the approx % of unusable photos due to missed focus on the a6300 wif sigma 150-600, 3) do you have the focus settings usually on the medium burst rate at 6fps(would that be more accurate)? thank you so much!

I'm getting the Sony a6000 soon. I'm going to use it for many things including video and night photography. I also want to get into wildlife photography. I want to photography fish jumping etc. would the Sony 70-200 mm f/2.8. Would this be a good lens for wildlife photography. I have the other lenses for night shoots etc already picked out.
Thanks for this informative video. I am going to Africa this October and wondering if I should buy the Sigma 150-600mm lens. I have and planning on using my Nikon 70-200mm F/2.8 VR with a 2X teleconverter but love to have some extra focal length. Would like to hear your recommendation if you don't mind.
I would go with the Sigma 150-600 or the new Tamron 150-600 G2 (see this video - th-cam.com/video/7_msTFAmwWY/w-d-xo.html) I found 400mm to be shorter than I wanted often enough that it is worth it to take a lens that goes to 600. Do you have two bodies? Would be awesome to have the 70-200 on one and the 150-600 on another.
Hi, Which memory card are you using for your DSLR? I just bought a Canon 80d and i can't decide which sd card i should buy. Which one do you suggest i should go for? Lexar 64gb professional 1000x uhs-ii Or any other cheaper uhs-i sd cards? Plz reply asap
The San disk 32 gb 95 mbs are an sale for $21.95 on Amazon right now and Best Buy will price match them. I bought two today. They will work great with the 80D
+PhotoRec TV - Why? Ok so firstly the Tamron has faster Auto-focus + better Aufo-focus Secondly from comparing 2 of these lenses,The Tamron has better Performance... Of course that's my opinion... What do you say?
hi, great video. you just touch up on something that catched my curiosity. The A6300 with the sigma adapter and Sigma lens. you said it works well. I'm going to an airshow the end of the month and I have a A6300. Sony's longest native lens is up to 300mm only. what is your thoughts on this with the Sigma? thank you
Thanks. it would be a rental for me. I was debating between the native 70-300mm G or a longer Sigma lens with the adapter. I was afraid the adapter would compromise my focus when shooting fast plane going by.

I have seem of a couple of reviewers suggesting to pick up an old Canon 5d (mk1) from ebay. You can get some of them there for around $300. Any thoughts on how that would work as a backup/secondary camera? I currently have a 70D.
A 70+ year old woman was trying to get a divorce after 50 years of marriage. The judge asked " after so many years why do you want a divorce now?" She replied "Enough is enough" That the way I feel about your channel.
well i was there too - Tarangire & Serengeti & Ngorongo Crater - I was wondering i saw you!!! I went with the Batis 85mm on the A7rii mostly on my way... Anyway Sigma MC-11 with the A6000 and the A7rii was a pleasure to shoot as you tell! flic.kr/p/Lu1z3o flic.kr/p/LNwour flic.kr/p/LPTNET flic.kr/p/LPcp4L flic.kr/p/LrPVcq Have you also been at Kati Kati tented Camps? I recommend the 15mm Voigtländer for wideangle shoots... its is bang for the buck!
I did not visit that camp - I have two videos up of what we did, more to come - th-cam.com/play/PLCUnGRSvb-aKafsUY2TkH7mkuL5lViSRE.html You got some great photos.
I wouldn't say the video quality is shitty, but that depends largely on lighting conditions, the lens you're using and even the picture profile. It's ISO performance is pretty bad, compared to newer cameras and the autofocus isn't on 70D/80D level, but overall I like mine. It's a great first camera, imo.
The last two (I think) versions of ML kind of broke the RAW video function. Before, I could shoot continuous RAW in 720p, now it stops recording after a minute and something. That's using a SanDisk Extreme Pro card, btw.
You may know wildlife photography, but you know nothing of making a video with the correct volume, throughout a video. I had to turn my Insignia speakers all the way up and could still barely hear you. Then when music came on it almost blew my subwoofer.

I take my Sigma trifecta when I go to Africa
1. Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8
2. Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8
3. Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3
You are in good shape!

the Tamron G2 is really really good.
I have now reviewed the 150-600 G2 from Tamron and found it to be better than the Sigma. th-cam.com/video/7_msTFAmwWY/w-d-xo.html

Got the tamaron 150 600 on my Nikon 7200 and canon 7d mark 2 brill performance
That Sigma is so big, I honestly didn't notice the Sony attached to it, until you picked it up. :D
True, it could have been a slightly oversized lens cap! :)
Angel Angelov oh shit that's so true
nice tempo of topic progression in your presentations and you have a good neutral voice, making you pleasant to listen to.

Nice video. I have canon 7D M2 and c100-400mm M2. Can I use 1.4x tele converter on this setup ? Thanks
yes, you can use it.
Great video. But unfortunately what is the size of the Mindshift bag. Is it 26l, or 35l. or bigger. ?
That is the 26L. Thanks!
Is sigma sport is worth the money over the contemporary?
would you have enough zoom with a 100-400, or should I go with a 150-600?
One comment, one question: the volume while you were talking was really low, while the music on intro/outro almost blew out the speakers on my tv. When is the next vlog from the safari?
Next vlog from the safari next week - so much to edit, so much travel :) And sorry about the audio, I usually pay attention to that.
Did you use a circular polarizer on your wildlife shots ?
I wonder how the newer D7500 compares vs. the older D500 with the nikkor 200-500 mm F/5.6?
That was very interesting Toby. Loved it.
Thanks for all the info as always Toby.
I don't want to be one of those guys but the audio levels need syncing. Your voice is very low; especially compared to the music.
What about the Nikon Nikkor AF-S 80-400mm f/4-5.6 VR FG, would that be a good choice? And would it work with a 1.4x TC?

How to get good photos during / evening night safari ?
How does the mc-11 with the 150-600mm work on a7r iii ? For stills and for birds in flight. Great video !! Thank you .

What camera did you use to shout this video? Thank you
You should check out the Eclipse Rovers. They work great to capture
moving shots. So versatile! They even operate on pipes and cables.
Got my answer, Very good channel you will go big very soon. Good luck.
Did. You take tripod on mindshift or in another bag?
A selfie stick? What next, socks and sandals? ;) Great video, you seem to be in top form!
I am not my dad... yet ;) And thanks!!
Helpful video for photographers .

Great video Tobi, thanks. How do you organize backup, did you have a laptop with you?
I did bring a laptop - I always need to edit a little video so my 15" macbook comes with me - I don't love the extra weight but I need it.
What do you prefer, Nikon 200-500mm or Sigma non-sport (the cheaper one)?
Sigma value is VERY hard to beat and I had was very happy with sharpness.
Thanks for the fast response, love your work and the photos you make.. :D
Oh and this won't be professional. At least not yet
What about the 24 240 for the a7rii ? and in crop mode it would be like a 400 ?
When are you doing critiquing of the community again? Particularly product photography
Thank you for the feedback! I checked out your review on the Tamron G2 and will see if I could find a good quality Sigma lens that is used.
can nikon d7000 as a beginer in wildlife photography is gud?
What do you Guys think: the old canon 100-400mm mki OR sigma's 150-600mm Contemporary?
Sigma 150-600 C. Not a fan of that older 100-400
Hi,
Which memory card are you using for your DSLR?
I just bought a Canon 80d and i can't decide which sd card i should buy.
Which one do you suggest i should go for?
Lexar 64gb professional 1000x uhs-ii Or any other cheaper uhs-i sd cards?
Plz reply asap
The San disk 32 gb 95 mbs are an sale for $21.95 on Amazon right now and Best Buy will price match them. I bought two today. They will work great with the 80D
+South LA Hiker Thanks. :)
How does Sigma 150-600mm work while tracking flying birds?
Very well.
Why did you put the Tamron 150-600 at the side?
In some ways it's better than the Sigma C for Nikon
I don't think it is. Why do you?
+PhotoRec TV - Why?
Ok so firstly the Tamron has faster Auto-focus + better Aufo-focus
Secondly from comparing 2 of these lenses,The Tamron has better Performance...
Of course that's my opinion...
What do you say?
Toby have you ever done a review on the sigma 150-600mm contemporary? I can't find it...
No - This trip in Tanzania was me review and my opinion is - best value in that focal range - nothing better!
I've been saying this to you a lot, come to Kenya and I will welcome you personally.
I go where the tours are scheduled :)
hi, great video. you just touch up on something that catched my curiosity. The A6300 with the sigma adapter and Sigma lens. you said it works well. I'm going to an airshow the end of the month and I have a A6300. Sony's longest native lens is up to 300mm only. what is your thoughts on this with the Sigma? thank you
honestly the MC 11 works great. I suggest you make sure the adapters firmware and your cameras firmware is updated.
Thanks. it would be a rental for me. I was debating between the native 70-300mm G or a longer Sigma lens with the adapter. I was afraid the adapter would compromise my focus when shooting fast plane going by.

Ehy Toby it looks like I can't find your vlog for the safari, are they on your site?
Only one has been published so far- they will be listed here th-cam.com/play/PLCUnGRSvb-aKafsUY2TkH7mkuL5lViSRE.html
PhotoRec TV thanks Toby, looking foreward to the upcoming ones then!
have you shot with the rx10 mk3? I have been using a mount Sony 70-400 g2 on my a6000. but it's heavy and slow to focus.
No, But I know people are very happy with their super zooms like the RX10.
Great job !
Hi would the Sony Alpha a6500 work better than the Sony Alpha a6ooo ????
Yes it would. The a6300 and a6500 have improved AF systems that are excellent.
I have D7200,can i go with sigma 150-600.Is there any issue?
Absolutely - no issues!
love your videos but the audio levels are inconsistent...mainly on your voice.
excellent info. thx. j.
does the sony autofocus work up to f8 ?
with a teleconverter i guess my 7d wont focus anymore
Sony AF worked just fine past f8 - I was pleasantly surprised.
What about tamrons 150-600mm ?
It is a fine lens but after shooting with it and the SIgma 150-600 C I feel the Sigma is a better value.
I have seem of a couple of reviewers suggesting to pick up an old Canon 5d (mk1) from ebay. You can get some of them there for around $300. Any thoughts on how that would work as a backup/secondary camera? I currently have a 70D.
george cronje id rather get a nikon D700 tbh far better iso and far better AF/build quality. IQ is amazing too
i need nikon d7200. is anyone here selling?.
A 70+ year old woman was trying to get a divorce after 50 years of marriage. The judge asked " after so many years why do you want a divorce now?" She replied "Enough is enough" That the way I feel about your channel.
I miss Mish Mash!

well i was there too - Tarangire & Serengeti & Ngorongo Crater - I was wondering i saw you!!! I went with the Batis 85mm on the A7rii mostly on my way... Anyway Sigma MC-11 with the A6000 and the A7rii was a pleasure to shoot as you tell!

Have you also been at Kati Kati tented Camps?
I recommend the 15mm Voigtländer for wideangle shoots... its is bang for the buck!
I did not visit that camp - I have two videos up of what we did, more to come - th-cam.com/play/PLCUnGRSvb-aKafsUY2TkH7mkuL5lViSRE.html You got some great photos.
Hello small help
i have 700d and i regreted for buying it
Why?
+mvrck101 shitty video quality and shiiiiiitty auto focis is sooo laggy
I wouldn't say the video quality is shitty, but that depends largely on lighting conditions, the lens you're using and even the picture profile. It's ISO performance is pretty bad, compared to newer cameras and the autofocus isn't on 70D/80D level, but overall I like mine. It's a great first camera, imo.
+mvrck101 im trying to get video with raw in magic lentern im struggling with that
The last two (I think) versions of ML kind of broke the RAW video function. Before, I could shoot continuous RAW in 720p, now it stops recording after a minute and something. That's using a SanDisk Extreme Pro card, btw.
I love photography and I don't have money to buy it ...u have a lot camera s can you send me a one camera gift
😊😅ll
Gift me 600mm lens
Christmas gift
Can't afford to buy
You may know wildlife photography, but you know nothing of making a video with the correct volume, throughout a video. I had to turn my Insignia speakers all the way up and could still barely hear you. Then when music came on it almost blew my subwoofer.
Apologies.
have you shot with the rx10 mk3? I have been using a mount Sony 70-400 g2 on my a6000. but it's heavy and slow to focus.
