Video 4/4 of my series about Thai people in Darwin, Australia! Had a blast making these videos and meeting so many people! Thanks to Ling App for supporting this channel. Start your language learning today: ling-app.com/?referrer=ThaiTalkPaddy
Have you heard of David Long? He developed ALG "automatic language growth" at AUA in Bangkok. He talks about how pronunciation and grammar can be negatively affected (in some cases permanently) by trying to talk to soon without enough "comprehensible input" (at least 600 hours worth).
the warm genuine reactions of the thai's upon hearing you speak their language never fails to put a smile on my face. Thanks mate for being such a free soul
Noooo, need more content like this! Great video, all the ladies were super nice and the young Thai girl was really sweet. I like this style of video, just feels fun to watch. Thanks
I’m Thai . I like the way you are positive thinking about Thailand 🙏🏿🙏🏽🙏🙏🏻. I’ve been to Darwin a few times when I was as the crew’s member. It was hot like Thailand, but it’s unique( in the good way)🌻🌻🌻💋🚗
I really love these videos of yours)) I'm smiling the entire video. The young lady at 10:12 from Samui is so nice)) I'm on Samui island right now -- it feels like home.
A very nice family owned outdoor restaurant opened a couple years ago near Selephun, Roiet province (Isaan). One of the family members ( owner) has lived in Darwin for many years. It was the first time I heard of a Thai living in Darwin. I visited Darwin over 30 years ago- very humid and hot and a special wildlife habitat from most of Australia. Totally different than Sydney. You have a gift to charm those ladies, Paddy.
Love these kind of videos Paddy! Am also picking thai up currently it really always surprises them when someone of a different nationality speaks thai! I always watch your videos especially the when where you went to the market and chose the kanom dom and chose the si kiao coloured one Haha! Make more of these videos mate! Jer gannn Krub
Honestly, this one brought tears to my eyes. Rapid Creek market was the only place that relived the constant home sickness for Chiangmai. Its like a breath of fresh air speaking to the Thai market folk's. Never fluent like yours Paddy but a few words makes all the difference. There's been a huge increase of Asians coming to Darwin for the last 12 years. The market needs a change of location, size, and frequency. Have you been to Rustys market in Cairns yet?
Those were some of the most heartfelt interactions I've seen with you just walking through a market. The "playboy" conversation with the two women was just adorable! Lots of great content here. 🥰
Ahhh Darwin....so many memories for me in the early 90's . I shipped out of their by plane to Troughton Island and then locked up for 4 weeks on exploratory rigs or floating offshore production facilities. Dry workplace, so monk like abstinence until the trip home. So many drunken adventures ( Travelodge Darwin bar had pics of the rigs on the walls back in the day). Loved the video, Thais are so industrious.
You can already tell the way the young lady gave the money in your hand at 12:16 that she didn't felt akward. When you speak the language there is a connection. Thanks for the upload !
I have been subscribed to you for years. I never comment, but love your videos. I absolutely love this style and I am currently learning Thai. Great listening practice in natural speak. Keep it up.
Im Thai and this is so heartwarming 😊 to see how you interact to them and their reaction to your thai is soooo fun ❤ and i just know about Darwin from your video! Cool place indeed.
Great video. And what a great tourism advertisement for Thailand. Such friendly people. You can see why they call The Kingdom "The land of smiles" I know a lot of Australia Thai people probably know you by now. But it's still always funny to see their faces when you slip from English to Thai.
ahhhh ... have been waiting for this content! loved it. the vibes were great as the ladies and the thai girl in this vid were really sweet and seemed fun to interact with. its so fun to watch this type of content. great work paddy!
Love the style of video, Paddy. You don't need to feel pressure to produce just one type of content, e.g. interviews. Whatever you do, it shall be invaluable to both Thai and English learners alike.
Awesome video Paddy, really love it when you speak Thai to them, I do it over here in Cha-am as well and they are amazed, but nearly as good as you. It wants me to keep trying more, thank you mate🙏
Their seems to be a happy moment seared between individuals communicating with each other, preferably on an agreeable subject in the same language. I will look into ling to see if it will help me to communicate to others.
Potatoes, peanut sauce... You're making massaman curry! That lady was making somtum. I'm jealous! Dying for a bowl of somtum. But due to my current health and medical issues, I won't be going to Thailand for a little while. Thank you for the video. Makes me want to achieve one of my bucket list things even more now - laksaon the beach at dawn in Darwin. Cheers.
Thank you for representing the Aussies so well and in such a good light. There is this undertone of racism in the country and I don't think it's fully warranted.
I think kinda the same as Thailand. There are actually quite alot of Thais who aren't very fond of farang. If you've lived in Thailand as long as I have, you'd know 😢
Paddy: Please, how do you say this sentence in Thai "I was adopted by Swedish parents when I was 6 weeks old and I grew up in Sweden and I don't speak much Thai", please? If I went to Thailand, I'd be using this sentence a lot
Darwin aint that small , I mean it hasnt got a large population but it IS the gateway to Australia from the North. As to the most Asian city, that would go to Hurstville , a city in Sydney.
That type of fluency, you're not getting simply by living in Chiang Mai for one year. There's more to 'the Paddy story' than you're letting on but your Thai is quite good, there's no disputing that.

55555 "We cannot gossip" 😂😂😂
Lolllllllllllll
That is a very common retort for some reason. They also appreciate polite Thai.
@@villagefarang Thais love gossip krub, lol
@@josephgee2515Actually most nations do that too when they have a chance, LoL 😂
Paddy: doing his bit for tourism in Darwin and reminding us of all the hard working people who keep the country running
That's right ! Not like these keyboard tapping suit wearing morons in the big cities !!

@Shaz-Daz A lot of Westerners go to Thailand for a different reason and do not respect the Thai culture.
Paddy: Please, how do you say this sentence in Thai "I was adopted by Swedish parents when I was 6 weeks old and I grew up in Sweden and I don't speak much Thai", please? If I went to Thailand, I'd be using this sentence a lot
Sawadee ka. Sobai dii mai?

Living 15 years with a thai partner and been to Thailand so many times and probably know only 3 words
ironically it's more close to Indonesia than to Melbourne!
