Great Job! I had to put mine back together. I use the other end of the caliper and clamped the caliper to the ruler with a tiny C-clamp. Manual 308685 is available on-line and provides the torques and measurements at page 32.

it all depends on the connectors, the wires, or maybe just male plug that connects into the field. i would definitely check continuity between the wires and even maybe resistance on the field just to spot what its the problem many time on that male plugs on the field cold pick up corrosion or even maybe residues of carbon from the clutch grinding.

First of all I am no expert repairing pumps so with that said I would check to see if there are any broken or loose parts that are rubbing because smoke should not ever be coming from that area, I also would do a simple youtube search with the words "graco 3900 pump smoking" or "how to take apart a graco 3900 pump" please note there is a considerable difference in parts between a 3500 & 3900 pump due to the 3900 being a newer model than the 3500
you burned your clutch.... it happens of not enough lubrication on gear housing or pinion.... or your upper throat nut on your pump its too tight.... frozen pump or dried paint. those last are super common
if it has never been replaced the only adjustments you could possibly do it has to be done at the time of installation. That is the reason why those specs have to be follow rigidly for what it is. In this year alone we have seen a lot of problems with more than 6 -Gmax7900 1st Gen on clutches and its due of 1 abuse. 2 wrong handling at the time of moving them around after use. or bad installation considering those units are over 20 years old and most are on their 2nd clutch. if you like and if you still have the problem send me a video of what it does and check the housing when you are using the machine and check the temperature of the clutch cover. I just wonder with my question because of that torque its super important on installation to that field. Not really a problem per se but I had to rebuild the pump packings since the striping machine sat for years.

Best bet is to contact Graco directly, however Sherwin Williams should be able to order parts for you

i bought a graco gmax 7900 a couple years ago and it works but has this knocking noise .do you thing the clutch needs adjusting or replace the clutch?
I am no expert and haven't heard the sound it is making. I think you might have a loose or broken part

Everything worked great and I did reused the field because I didn't want to wait for a new one since the field was still in good working order.
