Inspired recently by the Naan bread pizza at Cornucopia in Grantsville, Pa. With balsamic reduction drizzle, Feta, caramelized onions, bacon and figs. Thought it sounded weird, tried it and it was Wonderful. Went home and made it several more times. Used prosciutto, different cheeses, dates etc. what fun! All of them were good.
Thanks Helen! I was going to skip to the end, but you were so captivating and excellent in your discourse that I watched the entire video. Best regards.
Gave this a try since I had everything already except the kumquats and the blender. Mortar and pestle made quick work of the dressing though. Did the Pistachios on their own at first after blanching to get em down fine enough. Loved it, great recipe. Though I'm thinking of making a spicy version for my own tastes after trying a bit with chili crunch instead of quinoa.
This was incredibly delicious. I had a first crop of snap peas from my container garden ready to harvest, so I made a half recipe. The pistachio dressing was so good I ate it on toast because it was just that good. I didn’t have kumquats, but some Meyer lemon juice and tangerines were a good substitute. Definitely a keeper!
I have the worst luck! Just returned to Canada after visiting my daughter in Somerville near where Sarma Restaurant is. So disappointed! This looks great and I will encourage my daughter, who has an interest in cooking and has previously taken courses in Toronto to look you up and take a class!! BTW I really enjoy your videos Helen!
Please test the pistachio flavor theory! I have a dressing idea that you might want to play with... It's actually something that I came up with myself but maybe it's nothing new. I use nutritional yeast as a base of my salad dressing. I add to it some lemon juice and just enough water to form a thickish paste. Then some olive oil, salt and pepper. It really allows to cut down on oil because not much is needed and it has this cheesy/nutty flavor that I am obsessed with. I'd love to see your ideas for its use and maybe some improvements.
I’m not a chef but love cooking. I have the same feeling. If I discover tasty food in the restaurant, I do my best to recreate or at least partly recreate it ❤️😊
I still got a long way to go, trying to cook and making a video is super hard. But im getting a lot of motivation from watching your videos. Hopefully someday I will get where you are.
Thank you, Chef Rennie, for sharing this recipe with us. I love salad and I am always on the look out for different dressings, incidentally, I also love Mediterranean dishes so this just hits the spot. I know pistachio is generally the nut that is native to Mediterranean cuisine, may I substitute it with another kind if I do not have pistachio? thank you so much.
Tipp: for not to struggle to get delicious pastes out of the mixer: Use the small vitamix - it has a cup-shaped container that has to be turned upside down for mixing. It makes things incedibly quick and easy! After pouring/skimming out 95% I always add a splash liquid, shake and mix 3 seconds, and then its easy to pour the rest of the good stuff out. I lose almost anything of the ingredients and it takes almost no time and no effort to empty the mixer!
Could you please share were i could buy the spatula for the Vitamix? Love Vitamix but that inability to scrape under the blade is a major fault. Love your channel and your clear and concise explanations. All the best from CANADA 🇨🇦
This particular spatula is a Dutch invention and the English term for it is a bottle scraper. I don't know where you can buy them in your area, but hopefully the correct term will help you google it.
If I'm allergic to tree nuts, what would be a good substitute for the pistachios? Or alternatively what other type of dressings would pair well with this salad?
Hi Hellen, you have no clue I exist, but i love your videos... i am male, 37, single... lol i need an advice; having 35 family members over for dinner over 2 days, planning to serve steaks (have sou vide) and mashed potateos (your recipees)... what else can i serve as pre dish and or salad? Thank you and lots of love from sLOVEnia, best Andraz
35 people is a lot! Here is my veggie playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLaaYCMq3l7jtPkiQUOmA0smMMYvgTfrkJ.html Some ideas that come to mind are a cabbage salad (I have a red one and a white one in the list), a kale salad, or miso sesame green beans.
I love your channel, your recipes, and yourself! However!… sometimes the music overpowers your voice. I’m hard of hearing, and often with people like me, if there are multiple noise sources, I can’t understand anything. I want to hear YOU! This happens at the end of this video, starting around 5:48. Thank you for all that you do
Helen, Canola might be bred from suspicious origin. This can be controversial. Please do your own research. Use wholesome unadulterated foods for your excellent dishes!

I love this salad, but with some crushed mint in this dressing. Thank you Helen ♥️
Only been to Sarma once many years ago but it was very memorable!

Hah, I saw the photo and thought “ooh that looks like Sarma’s!” That was my favorite thing on the menu.

I so want to add asparagus to this! Raw asparagus!

What about using pistachio oil in the dressing?
Same. It's the culinary version of 'Name That Tune' 🙃#challengeaccepted
I am very allergic to any type of oranges, so I wonder if preserved lemon would work especially as there is lemon in the dressing.
sure!
This recipe (and Sarma) are added to the list! What is this blender spatula that you used? Are there any other use cases for it?
Here is the spatula. amzn.to/3lMOhVP Unfortunately, I don't know any other uses for it.
If I'm allergic to tree nuts, what would be a good substitute for the pistachios? Or alternatively what other type of dressings would pair well with this salad?
Got an idea to try pumpkin seeds(?).
a basic lemon vinaigrette will work great.

Would pistachio oil help?
yes it would :)
I don't like sugar snap peas, but I am extremely curious about this dish, so maybe I'll make it someday. Pistachio dressing? What?
I'm actually making it now without the kumquats
👍🤪👍🤪❤
#realcomment interesting! And ideas on what substitute might achieve a similar flavor as the pistachios? Asking for a friend with a nut allergy
you can just use a lemon vinaigrette.
