Ooh - Citroen BX and the extremely rare Renault Safrane. 😍 Magnifique!
My parents had a Vauxhall Carlton but it was the older model than the one in the advert. It was 7 years old and already had 80,000 miles by the time they bought it. Great cars with big comfy seats. Got to drive the old barge a few times once I passed my driving test.

    Excellent video, memories unlocked.
    Loved all my BX's.

Great selection. Vauxhall were on something of a roll early '80s-mid '90s with cars like the Mk2 & Mk3 Astra and Cavalier. Things seemed to go a bit wrong after that somehow but for quite some time they were the ones to beat. Alternatively you could 'go to work in an egg' with the Mk2 Nissan Micra . . . good little cars.

Had a MK1 Astra, brought it in '88 and stopped driving it in 2000! No electronic rubbish to go wrong and simple mechanics. Did have a MK3 Astra after, terrified me driving that in the wet! Did drive a Manta GT/E for a couple of years after that (which I still have, family owned for the past 36 years).

The used Vauxhalls my parents owned at the time were very reliable cars.

Love all these old car ads. Audi 100 was my dream car when I was younger. Now drive an Audi A4, so sort of got my dream car 🤪 Some of these car were actually roistered and probably sold. Looked up the Toyota & Citroen and they are on the database, obviously not been taxed for a while. Thanks Steve for our Friday video :)

Nearly bought a used BX but was nervous about the suspension braking, lovely and comfy though.

I had a Renault 11 Turbo in 1984. Bright red with factory body kit. Went like shit off a shovel. Lovely car.

It feels very personally appropriate to me that Denis Lawson should be in the Vauxhall Carlton advert - 6:24 - as it brings back the experience of being in my dad's second-hand one, with its supremely reassuring, and constant, smell of petrol in the cabin that never was tracked down. Every time I was in it I knew what it felt like to be Lawson's character in Star Wars, with the threat of death from explosion always close at hand. Like Wedge Antilles I survived, but I assume hundreds of others perished 😅

Fantastic video as usual, new models were always exciting back then because they didn't look all the same the way they do now. I was an apprentice in 84 at a Fiat, Saab and Ferrari dealership in the West Midlands, can I have some Italian next time please and throw in a Saab if you want to? Thanks

Modern cars are just boring, look the same between different makes or just plain ugly! A couple of months ago I was going down a dual carriageway and going the other way went an Allegro, just instantly stood out amongst the other grey boxes. Maybe not the best example to spot but the effect was the same 😄

@@Opel_Guy the 'all-aggro?' haven't seen one in years, hope you've recovered from the shock of seeing one, and moving! 100%right on modern cars, bland and more and more of them sounding like a Dyson

Think it's a local car in that blancmange orange. Could say it could have been worse and it was a Reliant Robin but did see one last week when I was going to work but haven't seen it since.

Gosh, how many remember the Renault Safrane. How many have even heard of the Renault Safrane. I thought it was a Vauxhall Carlton

I had a vague flashback when I saw the ad. Definitely not one of the most memorable ranges of car.

A very poignant selection of adverts with the death of the designer of the Citroën BX Marcello Gandini a couple of days ago. RIP Marcello. Also some great memories from being a car mad kid watching these ads

Back in the mid 80s my late father once had a vauxhall chevette 3 door hatch in red it was the only car you could leave the ignition keys in it and not to be stolen lol 😅 because half of the time it wouldn't start ha ha especially in cold weather and damp weather not the best for starting ha ha ha 🤣

0:07 I remember my Dad’s Vauxhall ‘Shove-it’. Pretty sure my hand prints were permanently imprinted on the boot pushing the useless thing.

Thank goodness the Chevette was not called the Chavette.

My aesthetic senses were hoping not to see any cars from the 70s in this compilation, the decade that not only thought that brown was an acceptable colour for a car, but that brown was the colour to be preferred. None to be seen, but 1980s Vauxhall apparently had the theme covered, with its Astra van in a delightful baby poo scheme. Lovely... 🤮😁

Would that be the Ford Ka advert with the football boots?
