Hey Gent... ...Fair comment..... *But*.(Isn't there always) For a lot of people it's the road test that REALLY matters. My next bike is likely the latest BMW S1000R (When I buy...Notice the lack of R's) I was hoping that Yammy done the business though and they look like they have. Look forwards to the road tests. The Gixxer is still an amazing machine..
Blah! Yeah you're right of course, how many riders actually take their bikes onto a track? I would have thought though on the road there will be nothing between any of them besides comfort and maybe practicality. I'd love to see your on the S1000r, fantastic bike.
What makes me laugh a bit is that there isn't much mention of rider SIZE with regard to comfort. They really need a wide range of body types doing these shootouts. If they don't have a short fatty, tall fatty, short skinny, and tall skinny to offset the opinions, they're not doing much of a comfort test. Unless you're riding 300+ mile days on a regular basis on a superbike, it's a tad laughable to rate a motorcycle based on that aspect. I care a lot more about safety features, confidence-inspiring handling, fuel economy, is it easy to work on, manufacturer warranty support, etc. This test was a bit blasé. "We rode bikes. We thought these were marginally better than those."
Given the amount of data and success Yamaha has collected in racing over BMW I would have been surprised if the R1 didn't get better lap times. BMW raised the bar in 2010 but also benefited from an economy that put the Japanese makes on hold for a while. Now that bike sales are back and running it should get very interesting. Look for that new RSV4 though when they release it. It should be a serious contender to the R1. It's also now Honda's and Suzuki's turn to step it up.
I'm a bimmer fan myself, but the BMW fanboys here crack me up. Why is it so hard to believe the outcome? Yamaha dominates in SBK and has for years. SBK uses real R1 and S1000rr bikes. Then they modify them. They all have the same potential. The BMW dominating the road is merely attributed to the fact BMW gave the public a bike closer to sbk performance than the other manufacturers were/are willing to do. Again, I can't understand why this is difficult to comprehend.
All I care to know is which is the most economical fuel wise because honestly these are all great bikes! Most people never take bikes to the track and just joy ride them so I don't know why these guys show which is the fastest etc when most people who buy a bike don't look at that. Most individuals will look at the bike which feels best when they seat on it, most comfortable, reliability history of the brand and that they can reach the floor if the seat isn't too high. Very few people buy bikes based on these comparisons.
Graeat video! It's a very good thing that the audio was OK this time, really glad to see MCN and riders like Neevesy have the propor video quality their riding and testing deserves!
Haha I read some of the comments below and a couple of people asked why you did not include the Kawasaki H2. I think they have a point, This is a Street legal super bike comparison test so even if a bike does not meet the sbk regulations just like the Panigale 1299 S it should be included in the Comparison. Maybe you could not get hold of one but that should be explained in the video just like you did with the Rsv4 and MV :D By the way, Gratts for being the first on TH-cam to test those machines :D
Your Fast Life! I dont think so, h2 is after all a bike aimed att performance and more of a sport like riding. the zx14r and hayabusa and the bmwk1300 something is more of a sport tourer in other words like a grand tourer car.
Pillokun The H2 is aimed at EXACT same thing as any hyper bike. It's just so amazing that people like you keep thinking of it as a supersport. It's like imagine if Harley found some way to make one of it's bike super light (for a harley) and maneuverable and it looked sporty but was still a cruiser. Many people would confuse it for a supersport and ask why it's not on the test. You can't just take a busa or zx14r and make them lighter and expect them to compete againt even light still AND purspose built RACE bikes. The H2 was NOT built as a race bike but all those others were. Like other hyperbikes, it's supposed to be FAST and more comfortable. It would not have as aggressive ergo like these bikes. Bottom line...different class. Putting H2 with these bikes would be like putting these bikes in a top speed test with the H2.
Actually, I liked my Honda's silver engine because I was able to see if anything was leaking or if there was any dirt - I also kept it meticulously clean. My R1 has an all-black engine, I can see how it hides filth pretty well, like black rims.
HONDA!!! WAKE THE F**K UP!! Make us Honda Fan Boys Proud! Since 2008 Honda has been focusing only on sub 600cc bikes which are not even the best, actually not even competitive, compared to other manufacturers however Honda does provide the largest variety now. Save up some money Honda and make us proud with some mind-blowing 600cc/1000cc bikes in the near future!
The Gentleman Biker There have been rumors for years about a return of a twin or v4. I'll only believe it when I see it, and the $100k+ price tag just doesn't count... unless I get rich quick.. ;)
I think they get paid off or something because I just came back from the panigale v4 video were they are gushing about it saying nothing comes close but then everyone else says it has best acceleration but that’s it so I think they just give the newest bike the best marks
That 98 carburetor had no chill lmfao that was my first bike and the worst first bike in history. But learn to ride one of those and there is nothing you can't do

srinivasan krishnamoorthy BMW revamped the s1000rr in 2015 so much it doesn't feel like the same bike as 2009-2014 s1000rr. BMW did this to attempt to stay on top yet still could not. Yamaha had proven what I've been saying for years. The s1000rr isn't anything special. BMW was just simply giving the public more sbk performance than the Japanese manufactures. Honestly, why do you think BMW dominates the roads but not the race circuit? Because, the BMW engine has less potential for improvement. Never seen an s1000rr pull away from a graves r1 in the straights. They all produce the same power.
04KBSVT the chassis is the same as 2009 other than some fine tuning in the engine everything is the same. R1 is a completely new frame. wait for the next Gen BMW
srinivasan krishnamoorthy And the 2009 R1 was also as fast as the s1000rr on race loop, don't judge an bike on the motor... Whatever, the R1's engine alow the pilot to accelerate earlier in the bend...
I just fell in love with the r1 from the first time i saw how aggressive looks with those led headlights but i couldn't believe it would be this good on the street and on the track with 2sec faster than the bmw, the highest top steed even if it's with 7bhp less powerful than the bmw and it has the torque from 8500rpm which is amazing...
Really cool to see the Yamaha win this. I had an R6 for 7 years, and when I was ready to upgrade to a liter bike, I was set on the R1 - until I compared everything on the market. I just couldn't settle for what was surely to be the last iteration of the R1 before a re-launch. I had no doubts that the ZX-10R ABS was the right bike at the right time, but that R1 sure does look sweet for 2015.
As usual top notch MCN review. R1 is amazing. Nice to see Yamaha come back into the game with a winner. I'd stick with my S1RR simpy because it is still incredible. But wouldn't hesitate to buy one of the new crop; even those not updated - GSXR and CBR. Still great bikes. Thx guys.
Nice!!!! Anyone who watches MotoGP knows, Yami can make a mean modern track weapon! I'm hoping Yamaha comes out with an FZ based on that crossplane though. Great review! Only thing was the video quality seemed low, even in HD. No biggie though, you guys have made huge strides!
Your Fast Life! When Rossi went from Honda to Yamaha he had no chance of winning (because of the bike), then Yamaha evolved placing themselves as a sirious contender again.
Federico Ruttkay Well I don't know all the details on that but I'm not saying that some bikes don't actually suck but in general the biggest investment in motogp is in the riders. All those bikes are awesome for the most part. They are all capable of winning. What holds the bikes back it the rider on it. Also, are you suggesting that Rosi was CONSISTENTLY winning on Honda, then got on Yami and CONSISTENTLY lost?
The riders definitely make a difference, but nobody could win on an old Ducati or an open class bike. My point was, the old R1 was pretty heavy and slow. This new R1 is more reflective of what Yamaha is capable of, as shown by their WCs in MotoGP.
It is used in V8s yes, but four cylinder cars use a flat plane crank. Also, which other sports bike features a cross plane crank? This is why it is a talking point I would say.
Impressive work from the Honda and Suzuki considering the lack of electronics. Managed to keep up quite well with the BMW. That Yamaha is insane though!
Awesome review! With bikes as good as these, it truly is the year of the Superbike. I'm sure we'd all love to see how the Aprilia duo squares off against the R1 duo, and the rest. '15 RR, no regrets.
I'm glad to see MotoGP techology trickling down to the street bikes. The thing is that there will ALWAYS be a newer bike that is faster, quicker or handles better and takes the top spot. The great majority of riders don't have the skill to ride any of these sport bikes at their limit so these power and lap time comparisons are just an exercise in futility like a d##k measuring contest. Buy the bike that you feel comfortable riding and that has the looks you like and just enjoy the ride!
All are great bikes, people have their preferances, I personally like the GSX-R, it came in last by their standards, but I just rode one recently, and fell in love with it, comfortable, fast, and a confidence inspiring chassis, I'd have it, over the other bikes here, especially given my 6'8" 320lbs frame.
Other Tester's/magazines, and Bike site will get all different results. Look at the Horsepower on that BMW,,it's SICK !!!! overall, I'll put my $$$ on the BMW
Matt R C It will depend on the type of track as well, but judging on how definitively MCN ranked the R1, I wouldn't doubt similar results in other tests. Looking forward to more comparison tests!
The motorcyclist was saying the same thing about the BMW & Panigale. Time will tell when more people have tested. Seems like only Zach & Ari are the only 2 that have rode it.
BeaglePower G You think this is the only track test that the r1 and bmw has had? The r1 has beaten up the bmw on other tracks and by other testers!!! Nit-wit!!!
I know that MV has a new bike that came out after the testing and Aprilia has a new bike coming out, but why didn't KTM send their back to be in this testing? Great vid, R1 is the best sounding bike here!
I've only tried the R1, the CBR and the BMW and for the track the R1 by a country mile, but on the road for an afternoon blatt I'd take the BMW, its more comfy and felt more together when I was filtering it through traffic. That said if I wanted a track day bike I'd have a HP4 mostly because it fits me better than the R1 which I found very uncomfortable after about 40 minutes. Although not in the same class as the BMW or the R1, if I was buying a ltr superbike as a regular rider, the CBR was the one I spend on, it was great on the road, fun on the track and it was by far the most comfortable of the three.
The r1 needs a short pipe that comes out the side faring to show the nice swingarm and rear rim. Would help with aero also. Probably would sound wicked also.
wow...the duc had 15 more ft/lbs of torque!! Shame it didn't win...but the road characteristics them mentioned are spot on. The duc is really made more for racing than streeting.
Who needs electronics on the street when you've got handling? Who needs HP on the track when you've been engineered to instill confidence in your navigator which produces quicker lap times consistently? Ladies and gentleman "ALL WE NEED IS ONE BIKE"! Sunday tune into the most elite level of motorcycle racing on this planet. You saw him scraping elbows last year. If you don't know now, you'll never know.
Would like to see how the RSV4 compares to these. The Yamaha is such a sick bike, I have had the pleasure of riding one for a bit. Definitely upped the bar for the rest of the field. Good video and ride safe guys.
They keep selling this model and the price is very cheap to produce. They will come up with a new model by the end of next year... it has been too long.
chopyocrop i hope they keep making their bikes without fancy electronics especially for the gen 3 hayabusa, though cruise control would be a great addition.
Now, Honda and Suzuki have to come out with better bikes with electronics. Kawi has a good TC and power but no QS which could easily be installed. It;s good to hear the R1 has ripped a hole in the BMW but the beemer has Cruise/ auto blipper/ time lane limiter (would be hilarious for street use) which would be fun to toy around with. The Gale is an amazing machine. The RSV4 will most likely take the crown of all these bikes. They should do dealer support with these tests. LOL. Aprilia would be last.
+Rosa ANR I don't agree I have them both. R1 is better but just my opinion. I don't feel good enough to ride the DUC like it should be ridden. So for me R1 > Duc. I understand if many think otherwise just how I feel :) Oh yea, the DUC is horribly uncomfortable for me too. So much so I don't ride it much. Maybe I'm to tall but me knee has no where to go DUC is best looking though. I don't hate it I just like the R1 a lot more.
for track the BMW is the king... but personally i don't give a shit about lap times because i dont have that much track days so i'd go for the mv f4rr because it's beautiful as angelina jolie.
Unfortunately I want the street King, which is a well known fact that BMW is the undisputed king of the street!! Not the best track bike, which we all knew Yamaha was going to be the best track bike, but in all honesty most of us, ride our bikes on the street. I would much prefer to have the top end power of the BMW versus the mid range power of the new Yamaha r1. I have the dyno sheets of the new r1 here in the states and it is way under powered compared to the Ducati or the Bmw. I know this publication gives the award to the biggest spender so therefore Yamaha obviously gave them a huge donation! Sorry but it's been proven time and time again, Yamaha is a fantastic circuit track bike because of its mid range power but it lacks the top speed and top end power of the Ducati or Bmw any real biker knows that. Sad to say these publications don't provide accurate information to the general public. I have a track bike as well as a regular riding street bike, but these comparisons are biased and based mostly on circuit track performance not for your average rider or actual street performance. The Bmw or even the Kawasaki zx10r will out perform the new Yamaha on the street anyday of the week!! Cancelled my subscription
Thank you MCN i have been waiting for this! Im very surprised to see the S1000RR bested by the ZX10R .... though i wonder..... different track... different results? The new R1 looks a very appealing machine now. They (Yamaha) took there damn time.... but the wait seams to have been worth it.
Nice test. It's not only the Aprilia and MV that are missing, there's also the KTM and EBR. (Theres other bikes as well, like the Bimota, but they are not full production models, so...)
idk i still love my 2009 Repsol CBR1000rr for what it is. Best all round bike in my opinion, best on mpg, reliability/cheap maintenance costs, and comfort for the long several hour rides. I'm 6ft 4 and find it plenty comfortable enough for all day rides. lol any of these bikes has more than enough power for the average street/track day rider. why pay for more power when its not even getting used?
I love my 2008 R1. However, I thought Yamaha would continue to NOT increase the power and reduce weight every year (since 08 they've gotten fatter, less fuel efficient and less powerful) . Finally Yamaha comes out with a bike that has more power than the 07-08 years as well as some great electronics!
Nice to see all these bikes head to head so soon in the season. A couple gripes though. The Honda (and even the Suzuki) definitely DO have enough power to get you into trouble at the track. I had no problem breaking the back end loose on my old Gixxer 1000 even in pretty quick corners if I wasn't careful - some TC would have been a godsend on that thing. Hell, even on my 600 I had before it. I'm also wondering why your videos look like they're filmed with a potato even with dudes standing around with such nice equipment. Invest in a new camera and you'd be golden :). Nice to see Yamaha back on top though - I think the next few years are going to be pretty sweet for the liter bike scene. Curious to see what Suzuki and Kawasaki are gonna answer back with.
So just to be clear. Top speed data refereed to maximum speed recorded on the longest straight at Jerez or it really was the absolute top speed the bikes can reach?
That guy on a horse, he has got one horse power and he doesn't even care.
0.8 actually

I'm glad to see MotoGP techology trickling down to the street bikes. The thing is that there will ALWAYS be a newer bike that is faster, quicker or handles better and takes the top spot. The great majority of riders don't have the skill to ride any of these sport bikes at their limit so these power and lap time comparisons are just an exercise in futility like a d##k measuring contest. Buy the bike that you feel comfortable riding and that has the looks you like and just enjoy the ride!
In 2014 Qualifying in Jerez, if this new R1 was on the grid with the Moto3 riders it would have come in second to last place in qual.
lol
Yamaha R1 is the new king superbike 2015... Yeees!!
Not on the track it won't.
Matt R C Yeah, ok..MCN has the sole monopoly on testing on a Track.........Nit-wit
Matt R C
It will depend on the type of track as well, but judging on how definitively MCN ranked the R1, I wouldn't doubt similar results in other tests. Looking forward to more comparison tests!
The motorcyclist was saying the same thing about the BMW & Panigale. Time will tell when more people have tested. Seems like only Zach & Ari are the only 2 that have rode it.
BeaglePower G
You think this is the only track test that the r1 and bmw has had? The r1 has beaten up the bmw on other tracks and by other testers!!! Nit-wit!!!
Gosh the new aprilia looks so good! Cant wait for the test
i want the Ducati
I enjoyed this review. A combination of old and new dominance
I know that MV has a new bike that came out after the testing and Aprilia has a new bike coming out, but why didn't KTM send their back to be in this testing? Great vid, R1 is the best sounding bike here!
Now that She(R1) is a winner and a great bike on the Streets as well, CycleCruza When are you buying one ;) ?
It's got "electronics" cyclecruza would be biggest hypocrite ever after all the smack he talked about not needing electronics. Tc, abs etc
Can't hate on the electronics.. I'm just wanting to see more factory standard ABS!
***** I like ABS, but don't like combined braking.
***** Me too :-)
I've only tried the R1, the CBR and the BMW and for the track the R1 by a country mile, but on the road for an afternoon blatt I'd take the BMW, its more comfy and felt more together when I was filtering it through traffic.
I love pushing the little music button!
The r1 needs a short pipe that comes out the side faring to show the nice swingarm and rear rim. Would help with aero also. Probably would sound wicked also.
Wow, finally a pub that will give us the truth about the skrr. Great review, very surprising results. Thx MCN, definite sub.
wow...the duc had 15 more ft/lbs of torque!!
The 1299r model is a beast!!!!!!
Nice, pretty solid comparison. Excited for what Honda will bring to the table next!
Nice video, but you forgot the greatest bike of 2015. The Kawasaki H2 :)
The new R1 are soo cool , all the electronics you can ask for.
that..r1 sound like motogp...its the best bike today..oh dont forget..yamaha also make v10 for toyota LFA wow!!!
Would like to see how the RSV4 compares to these. The Yamaha is such a sick bike, I have had the pleasure of riding one for a bit. Definitely upped the bar for the rest of the field. Good video and ride safe guys.
Still keepin 12' zx10r! Might add one more....
The people that watch your reviews and read your rag don't need shitty rock music ! The bikes are the music, just let them scream ! Thank you !
Such a nice environment with birds chirping and breeze. Calm and clear day. And then the MAJOR LEAGUE AHOLE SCREAMS BEGIN. :)
when is Suzuki going to release a new sport bike, i love Suzuki but i may have to get a Yamaha if they don't do something
Isn't it disappointing? My god, it seems like they have just decided not to try anymore.
I know!! I said the same thing! Put some heavy work into it. Suzuki has the ability.
They keep selling this model and the price is very cheap to produce. They will come up with a new model by the end of next year... it has been too long.
I mean look at the first race of the GP circuit... Its pretty obvious Suzuki needs to do something, unless they are okay with being second tier.
chopyocrop i hope they keep making their bikes without fancy electronics especially for the gen 3 hayabusa, though cruise control would be a great addition.
Ducati Panigale better than all rivails.💖👏
+Rosa ANR I don't agree I have them both. R1 is better but just my opinion. I don't feel good enough to ride the DUC like it should be ridden. So for me R1 > Duc. I understand if many think otherwise just how I feel :) Oh yea, the DUC is horribly uncomfortable for me too. So much so I don't ride it much. Maybe I'm to tall but me knee has no where to go DUC is best looking though. I don't hate it I just like the R1 a lot more.
Good on ya Yamaha. The R1 is back in 1st place :D
I actually agree but here in Australia the best bang for buck is the zx10r though I love the new r1
i vote for yamaha R1 good handling, stability power engine (more powerful and easy to ride) more slim, i think this yamaha M1 legal street bike version
Where is H2 and H2R? Very curious to see if its any good at all..
for track the BMW is the king... but personally i don't give a shit about lap times because i dont have that much track days so i'd go for the mv f4rr because it's beautiful as angelina jolie.
For track BMW is king....even though it was slower than 3 of the other 5 bikes lol
you need to add the 2015 aprilia rsv4 rr. that thing has been seriously upgraded for 2015.
How come no Kawa H2?
The Panigale S would have had a faster lap time if it would have had the optional Akrapovic exhaust and the lighter battery.
If you were comparing Ducati Panigale, you should also test the Yamaha R1M instead of the basic R1.
plaese dont forget the ktm on the next test, i heard they developed so much
R1 2017 vs Fireblade SP2 2017, which one will be faster?
Somededay R1, someday.
Did it happen yet?
Thank you MCN i have been waiting for this! Im very surprised to see the S1000RR bested by the ZX10R .... though i wonder..... different track... different results? The new R1 looks a very appealing machine now. They (Yamaha) took there damn time.... but the wait seams to have been worth it.
Excellent as usual, thanks 👍 R1, who'd have thunk it!
zx-10r still performing the best on track! BSB, BSB STOCK and WSBK!
Nice test. It's not only the Aprilia and MV that are missing, there's also the KTM and EBR. (Theres other bikes as well, like the Bimota, but they are not full production models, so...)
Just as i expected! R1 will be on top this year and the next until RR and Panigale changes. R1 will be at the top for the next 3 years or so
I can't wait to c wat Aprilla will come up with since they seen the new r1 !!;))
Yamaha actually doing great at jerez...great cornering speed...that's why he said that...
would be nice if we can get the 2015 RC8 in the next comparison please.
idk i still love my 2009 Repsol CBR1000rr for what it is.
What about the R1M ?? Waiting for the info of you guys....
Great review , Love that new R1 !
Which do you think makes the best road bike?
I love my 2008 R1. However, I thought Yamaha would continue to NOT increase the power and reduce weight every year (since 08 they've gotten fatter, less fuel efficient and less powerful) . Finally Yamaha comes out with a bike that has more power than the 07-08 years as well as some great electronics!
How the hell is the gixxer slower than the cbr?
Don't listen to these guys
what happened with the H2? i thought that one would be in for the 1000cc superbike test :(
I just placed an order for the Panigale R and i would be really interested to know witch one is faster around the track, the R1M or the Panigale R?
Everyone is itching for Honda and Suzuki to launch new bikes..........it's been a long wait.
excuse my stupidity but is the New Kwai not in this group? I have never seen anyone mention it with the supers.
When every one else was sleeping, Yamaha was making a bike...
I'm not entirely sure I want electronics to be cutting in between me and the bike =/
Are there options to turn off all the gizmos?
new to motorcycles, but I thought you had to remove mirrors and lights for track? doesnt that slow you down?
Wow n it sounds like Rossi` bike!!! !!
YOOO whats good man i havent seen you around in a minute. I see 1arm is getting a H2 thats whats up any chance that you are too
+Sea Tac Assassinno no H2 for me.
NYCFastest Crew Awww damn how do you think it will do for your blast runs that you all do?
Sea Tac Assassin im sure itll do ok.
+NYCFastest Crew is that ur real voice
Adeysworld Im out here in OC, CA. Should I go with the new R1, Aprilia Factory (saw your video), or 2015 s1000RR HP4?
Thanks for the reviews
So just to be clear. Top speed data refereed to maximum speed recorded on the longest straight at Jerez or it really was the absolute top speed the bikes can reach?
Now do H2 and H2R vs all other superbikes.
