Adding Recoil Starter to Mini Skid Steer. Can you actually turn it over fast enough to start?

- Update on several small projects to the mini skid steer build. Oil pressure gauge is now functional, oil drain hose installed. Adding a recoil starter to a 18 horse Briggs & Stratton Vanguard engine in a mini skid steer. #engineswap #skidsteer #repower / @fenrirfabrication

There’s nothing a mechanic can’t do if they want to and I’m sure you will make it work 😊😊😊
Great job and believe it's a Briggs you will be thankful for the pull start one day.
I would definitely be inclined to believe that, those starters are not known for their durability that’s for sure. Especially with that extra load from the hydraulics.
Good day from Ontario. Yrs ago I had 371 Bobcat with 14 hp. I put 15/16 on rachet & tried it. Figure if engine started
& socket stay it would spin wrench. Work perfect.
I am thinking if doing this on lawn tractor . Darn battery around $100 up here & only last 2 yrs.
Thanks good luck
Thanks for watching, I wish more equipment came with a recoil for a backup. Amazing to have when a machine has been sitting or the battery is weak, especially in winter
Sweet…my recoil projects always go south…right after I remove those 4 bolts.
To be honest, I didn’t expect it to actually fit yet alone work. I’m glad it does though. Good peace of mind, i’ve had starters or starter gears fail several times on other equipment. These vanguard starters are not built to the same level that the Kohler command or Kawasaki ones are. Had to winch my gravely zero turn up a customers hill last season due to that…
Really Easy Project, will you wire a switch to turn off the engine, looks a little janky lol!
Of course, I’m in the process of making a new harness for it and a switch panel for lights. Just put the motor in and doing all the little miscellaneous things now.
Can't Wait to see it!@@FenrirFabrication
Thanks for watching, the little machine has come a long way for sure.
I'll give that copper oil pressure line 2 hours before it cracks.
That’s the original line to the machine and it is 40 years old. Honestly expected it to start leaking immediately no leaks as of now though. I’ll likely be replacing that line in a couple weeks when I pull the rops off to shorten it an inch so it doesn’t scrape my garage door when I pull it out. I don’t have high hopes for it to not break being bent out of the way of the rops
Para cord is a bad decision I say this because I used it on a chainsaw lasted no time
I’m kind of curious to see how it’ll last. it’ll probably last quite a long time due to the fact it won’t frequently be used as it’s a backup to the electric starter and the machine is stored indoors. Luckily, if it breaks it’s a 15 minute fix. In which case, I probably will go with a standard braided pull cord.
Stern has the best rope for them and it will last forever 😊😊😊
Sell it to me please!!.i will drive and get it
People love these little machines. I’m always looking for them to fix up. This one I’m fixing up to use for my business along with my big bobcat 7753. This one isn’t even done, when it gets a bit warmer I’m going sand it down and paint it, install some lighting, already ordered a new hydraulic cylinder for the left side. Got a lot more to do to it.
