- Confused about what a C-Rating is with LiPo batteries? Or how to break them in, or even how to dispose of them? And what about POWER? How do I get the absolute most out of a LiPo battery? HeliDirect and Horizon Team Pilot/Ph.D./Wizard/Professor/MIT Graduate, Mikel Graham, takes us through everything you need to know about LiPo batteries, to help ensure you purchase the LiPo battery for your needs.

Useful and easy to comprehend - thanks for supporting your work using practical examples.
Excellent presentation!! Thank you.
Excellent video. And thanks for not mentioning the salt water bath for disposing batteries! 😀
Thanks for sharing!
Great material! I feel like I truly understand batteries now! Thanks.
Very interesting :)
Very, very good material, Mikel! I learned something today! Thank you!
Nice work Mikel. Always fun to learn math from you!
Very good video! Thank you for making it.
Thank you very much for posting this well done video. I have a follow up question.
Charge rate. I own many Pulse Ultra LiPo batteries (standard LiPo, not the HV versions) in the 45C to 50C range. They all state I can charge them up to 5C rate. I generally balance charge at 2C charge rate. In my experience, balance charging at 3C charge saves about 4min to 5min (in real life) compared to 2C balance charge rate. Although I have balance charged at 3C for testing purposes, I have been hesitant to adopt charging at 3C "routinely" out of concern that I would be "significantly" decreasing overall potential charge/discharge cycles and degrading the batteries faster compared to charging at a more conservative 2C charge rate. Is there a significant acceleration in battery degradation and/or significant decrease in number of useful charge/discharge cycles when balance charging at 3C compared to slower charging at 2C?
In my experience and research, no there isn't. You're pretty safe up to 3C I've found.
3.0v per cell discharge is very extreme. The true 0% SOC is 3.3 volts. Not 3.0 volts. 3.0v per cell sounds like a maximum allowed voltage sag number.
