    Thanks for your video. Just finished changing mine for the first time. Plow moves so much better/faster now.

    You should try fluid film on your plow. I use it for mine, and it works great. I highly recommend fluid film for anyone who plows snow.

    Yeah you always take the cylinder and main lift hydraulic lines off at the pump and move the blade side to side (slowly) as well to drain out the old fluid from the lines and cylinders. And what about greasing the pivot at the bottom? Kind of seems like a half a service job to me?

    Wouldn't it be better to replace that filter rather than spray it?

    busted a line this morning to my ds angle hose. 8" of snow and no one is open till tomorrow, we're expecting -52 deg wind chills. Had to use Dextron to get back on the road. How can I flush and bleed the angle rams? Gotta love Chicago

    • @Broncocarl92
      @Broncocarl92  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lift the plow, remove both lines at the pump and put them into a bucket. Now the fun part, angle the plow manually several times until fluid stops flowing from the lines. If you want to flush them more angle the plow one way and take the hose from the fully collapsed ram and stick it in a bottle of fresh fluid. Once you angle the plow the other way (manually) the ram should draw the fresh fluid from the bottle. Next connect the two rams together with one hose. Manually angle plow left and right several times and that should circulate the clean fluid between both rams. Now you can put hoses back the way they were and once again place them in a bucket, angle left and right to purge them, then reconnect to pump, fill pump, angle several times while keeping an eye on the fluid level.
      Hope that helps, and stay warm out there!

  • @Velvethamma

    Good to change the fluid annually like you did to keep moisture to a minimum. I like to flush the angle rams too. Do you use ATF in yours or the low temp western oil?

    • @Broncocarl92
      @Broncocarl92  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wind up spilling too much fluid when I try to flush the rams so I skipped that..
      I use the Western fluid, I have this thing about using only what the manufacturer recommends, esp when the pump is so costly.

    • @Velvethamma
      @Velvethamma 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All the western pumps I've ever bought have been filled with ATF from the installer. The manual even specifies the oil as ATF. The nice thing about the western fluid is it stays thinner when its bitter cold, atf slows em down a bit. And yes... flushing rams is a messy proposition for sure, lol. Merry christmas buddy

    I was hooking my western v plow up today doing maintenance making sure it’s ready for winter as soon as I connected it and lifted it the pressure cap blew off.. fluid everywhere. Any reason for that? Going to order a new cap now as the other one is broken.

    • @ryananderson6119
      @ryananderson6119 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      My guess: You filled the reservoir tank while still having fluid in the ram that goes up and down. When you go down that fluid from the ram returns to the reservoir tank, thus overfilling the reservoir that you just topped off causing it to overfill and blow out the vent cap

    • @azr2d1
      @azr2d1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      too much fluid. The tank isn't pressurized much.

    Nice video, what was it that you were using to spray the filter?

    • @Broncocarl92
      @Broncocarl92  11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wurth Solvent Spray, it's similar to brakleen... You want to use something that won't attack rubber (no carb cleaner).
      Thanks for watching.

    Did you make that bar on the lower frame of the plow? I guess its a stop that touches the head gear when the plow is in a upright position

    • @Broncocarl92

      Anthony D'Angelo not sure what bar you are referring to. Do you have a time mark?

      Yes 11:31 when your spraying the WD on the plow it’s at the bottom of the chains a few inches back towards the truck

    How come you didn't remove the airlines to drain them? In the instruction manual it also says to rotate the blade to the left and the right to empty the rams. How do I do it with the heavy blade on the ground?

    • @Broncocarl92
      @Broncocarl92  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      0TruckMafk ☢TM™"... The BigMean CommentSection BadAss okay my honest answer on that is my plow does not get used that much each season so I skipped that part. I have done that before another plow that I used to have and it's quite a messy procedure... but if you want to do that simply lift the plow put a block under neath the a frame so the blade doesn't hit the ground. You can now take the lines loose and with all your might move the blade back and forth while trying to catch all the oil that is spewing out of the cylinders. I hope that helps you out. and thanks for the comment.

      If you do the fluid as shown here every year, the fluid from the arms will get mixed with new fluid. By changing it once a year that would be good enough to keep fluid in good shape. Now if you have a 10 year old plow which has never been changed then it might be worth dealing with it. Like he said, it gets messy because the lines come off.
