Feedback time. We'll be adding about two new episodes to the Master Class every month. What topics do you wish there was a Master Class video on? HIT ME (with feedback, not your hand)
Hello man, many thanks for this video! What about 1)An AI noise remover BEFORE or AFTER the Noise Gate (since when gate opens because of your voice the background noise pops out too 2) De-essing directly on Elgato EQ or using a specific plug-in. Thanks!
I really appreciate these tutorials videos. Ill be setting up our new office soon, so this will be very helpful. My fiancée and I stream/record gaming videos together and one of the biggest issues we've had is audio. Specifically, our mics picking up on each other's audio. Would you please consider making one of these videos talking about setting up audio for a two, or more, person stream? We would be very greatful if you did.
Really important for most creators is if you use too much effects and compression it can be hard to listen to for long periods of time. The typical "radio voice" that I see most creators chasing is good for 30-60 seconds spots in between songs but listening to that for an hour or longer is very difficult. It's not something most people can articulate why, but they know it feels exhausting to listen to.
Quick piece of constructive criticism : Please consider removing your background music when demonstrating small audio changes. Primarily when discussing noise gates it is very hard to hear the examples of background hum in your demo. Cheers mate and love the channel
Hey Editor some feedback when hes talking about a weird hum that you can barely hear MAAAAAAYBE turn off the music so we can hear what hes talking about just for a sec
Thanks... these settings are also good for OBS's built in mic settings if you don't have Elgato Wavelink software. Just follow the instructions and that's it. I only added Gain at the end and worked like a charm ;) Thanks for the video :)
What i use is do a normal recording through stream deck and open that voice recording file. I made sure i set the input as mic (NON fx) and output in the SFX from wave link. There i can adjust the eq when adjusting the vst while listening to the recording in real time.
I find it hard to notice the subtle audio changes when talking about things like EQ and noise gate when there's background music playing over the whole video.
I agree that there could be certain parts of the video that shouldn't have background music like when he wasn't talking to have us hear the background noise
One bit of advice I'd like to share from an old MandalorGaming video where he showed off how he edits. Don't go crazy with EQ on your voice. Yes, you might think you sound better with more bass and a little more brightness to your voice, it sounds pleasing for sure. But what happens when you don't get to control the backend of audio? You go on a guest on a podcast, do a co-stream on someone else's channel, anyone that is a fan of you won't recognize your own voice because it hasn't been enhanced and cleaned up how you do it. These are not bad tools to use, EQ, noise gates and compressors are solid tools that everyone should use. Just don't overdo them when you get into using them.
I laughed when you showed me i could just record and put the audio through another channel with the noise gate, eq and that. Thats such a helpful tip. Also maybe no music when demonstrating the voice changes or just turn it down a notch. Any any tips for lets say people hearing your keyboard
i remember learning something and I highly recommend to others. don't use noise gate if you don't need to, rather you should use noise suppression. reason being that noise gut just as implied cuts off the audio while on the other hand noise suppression lowers the volume instead of completely cutting it off. this means its less likely to cut off the start and end of sentences like noise gate can sometimes do
Sounded a bit over compressed. I like punchy consonants, but these were Ali consonants. Lol. A nice starter guide, but it might not be a bad idea to mention getting your signal hot enough before going into processing. i imagine that would help your compression settings. And think about not playing background music for a video like this. Episode 8 part 2 when?
Hey nice video! Would you mind making a video with beacn studio and obs. I'm a first time streamer and it's so hard to understand.. Thanks for your videos!
Same here, my hearing is kind of shot after decades in construction so I don't really notice much difference when I try to eq myself. I actually went on fiverr and bought some help, think I paid $30 to a woman few years back and got an EQ curve sent back that she recommended for my voice. My viewers said that I sound way better with it, so can recommend that approach.
The problem with my mic is in my input sound setting, the bar that is used to test your microphone only moves up by like 5%. Even when I yell into it, it barely moves at all. All my friend say that I'm super quiet. I'm using a Shure SM7B with a cloudlifter connected to a Scarlett Solo. I appreciate any help!
Hi, I'm thinking of buying the Hercules Stream 200 XLR together with the MAONO AU-AM200 dynamic microphone and the XMSJSIY Preamplifier, do you think it would be a good combination?
Question: what if I’m kind of a high pitched shouter when i pkay game? is there a specific audio setting I should look out for? Love the video! second questions, whats the title of the background music! i love it ❤
Genuine question. Why would you not have the noisegate first before you EQ it? Wouldn't you want the noise removed first as that would factor into what you are hearing during EQ?
Yes it can, just a different UI Edit: The benefit of doing it directly on the mic means that no matter what software you're using, your microphone should sound the same. VoiceMeter is a good alternative.
Can you please make a video for streaming podcasters? I'm looking for a software that can automatically switch cameras (or OBS scenes) for me and my cohosts. We're all connected to a single mixer. Right now I'm using the streamdeck and it's a really difficult solution.
Love the series, can u end up making a vid about taking a livestream from twitch or TH-cam and turning it into a video. Maybe it’s simpler than I’m imagining but it would still be a big help
Thank you so much... I'm so tired of sounding like a.... well like a turd.. I have a deep voice and it sounds like I mumble, because it's deep.. thank you for the help... I'm going to go back over all these from the start.. Something happened to OBS, well maybe just mine, and it's glitching out and crashing every stream.
The unfortunate thing as well is that this tutorial would be easier to understand with Elgato or BEACN. Just because of the interface. It's much easier to understand what you're doing and much easier to adjust. Which leads me to ask. Is there any free alternatives that have these kinds of user interfaces?
How are you overriding the Elgato Mic with the SM7B? I have both, but the Wavelink software is only available if the Elgato mic is plugged in, making it the default mic
My room is is not sound treated well. when i add compression it adds like an echo to my voice. Or like a grand hall sound. is there a way to make this sound better without sound treating the room?
This just happened to me. Not only did it whack an audio channel but I have my editing software going to a aux 1. Davinci reset its defaults when the channel was deleted/renamed. Took me an hour to figure it out. Windos was still sending it to the virtual channel sigh.
Couldn't figure out why I didn't have a menu icon. Apparently you have to remove the existing EQ that's installed and go to their web store to get it again before it will prompt to update the EQ plugin to the current version. Going to software updates in the settings I guess was too simple of a solution.
Not with wavelink, you either need their usb mic or wave xlr to use wavelink. But if you are streaming and using obs you can download the audio plugins that he used for the noise gate and use them in OBS on your mic in there. That pack have noise gate, eq, compressor and more, though they are are not as user friendly as what is shown in the video but that also mean you have more options and adaptability.
You can use Voicemeter or Steel Steries Sonar to give you the virtual audio channels. I believe Sonar supports VSTs. Like others said, you can just use the plug ins in OBS.
Hey Harris! I'm hard of hearing and I couldn't figure out at all with ANC earbuds and my volume cranked up what you were talking about with small audio differences. I think the background music was just a little too distracting.
Had the Wave XLR for almost 2 years and it was good until recently. After a firmware update the Monitor Mix can't be switched from the software anymore so I have to open the Volume Mixer on Windows and change it every time there manually . For me who uses Discord a lot as well as games and YT this is a deal breaker because I like changing outputs from my IEM's to my speakers, but this just isn't possible anymore and Elgato support brushed my support tickets off. Never buying their stuff again.
As somebody who works with keyboards where sound profiles are very dynamic and diverse, it's also important to know when *NOT* to use sound filters like this. These filters aren't bad per se for voices, a little instagram-model level gaslighting but honestly not much harm done in the end. However, if you do work with something sound sensitive like music or ASMR, you are infinitely better off removing all filters and only touching gain. Too many sounds that aren't presented naturally become actually misleading and disingenuous when sound filters are involved, so it's become something of a meme where a sound test is "doctored" if you don't hear fans, AC or room tone in the background of people's videos. In a similar vein, too much sound treatment can also deaden the sound and not having that natural deflection of sound can make things sound mute and muddy as opposed to an environment more typical to the average person. I think it was also mentioned in a previous video, but proximity to the microphone also matters; holding a microphone right up close to a pen clicking versus across the room bring in very different frequencies because of how lower ones die off, so general rule of them ends up being roughly head-distance from the object being monitored. Again, if you're only doing voice, that's all good. Just food for thought if you do care about capturing other things in your environment or is a focal point to your content, as I do hear a lot of creators get instruments (or the recent craze of custom keyboards for content creators) who have all these filters that just make them unrecognizable,
I have a weird noise on my mic too, but i CANNOT find the frequency of it. It must be some kind of interference from something somewhere.......it gets worse when I play games...........I dont know what it is and its very annoying.
That's your computers fans most likely since they run faster (louder) when gaming. The noise gate would take care of that or noise supression in Streamlabs if you're streaming. You can probably find other third party noise supression apps but I can't recommend any since I am just using this while streaming myself.
Yea the background music made it almost impossible apart from the initial spot the difference at the start to hear any changes you were talking about - overlay music or background music really shouldn't have been on this at all.
Quick one.. why don’t you open up windows sound control panel , go to recording devices and just select “listen to device” No need to keep recording videos you can hear the mic settings in real time
Are you going for the Rush Limbaugh over compressed talking from a garbage can sound? Have you ever considered working with someone that knows how to mix voiceover?
Sounded like you used the filtered mic audio the whole time during eq. Every time you said "do you hear the difference" there was literally no difference
Personally not a fan of compression, it feels like it kills all dynamics in a voice when you scream so you always sound like you're just talking loud. That is why I never have it on myself when streaming.
I’m not a fan of the “S”’s sound when you were comparing mics at the start, it sounded like you were compressed and then crisped (I don’t even know how to describe it) a LOT
I appreciate the time making these videos but I would suggest not focusing on elgatos app. This would reach a wider audience if you stuck to OBS and VSTs.

would love to see ajustment for BEACN MIC with the BEACN Software, since you only displayed Elgato
Senpai Sessions ftw

I'd honestly rather them reupload with these changes than them make a new video 6 months down the road like they've been doing
Honestly this has been a massive help when setting up my mic, thank you so much for making this!
Just wanted to say the sweep and cut fixed an issue I've been having for a while. Thanks Harris!
this video is great!
i taught myself the basic visual stuff in OBX, but this has answered seriously long time questions i have always wondered about.
Absolute Grinder. 11pm uploads? Thank you for this series
5 am in germany, woke up, oh another video from him
He's got a new born so we get it when we get. Got to respect the Grind.
6:55 Elgato Wave Link now allows you to record 15 seconds of your voice directly with the software now
Thanks, this series is the best.
Thanks for this awesome voice masterclass that levels up the quality of your voice
Love the children's bandaids, really match your shirt!
Honestly I like the sound both on and off, but with the everything on it definitely sounds more clear and professional
I really needed this video, I’m so glad you did this lol
lol pls turn music off for some audio listening parts. thank you 😫😂❤
I would LOVE an eq setup for the GoXlr specifically. The slider being different makes it hard to follow along
Hey Editor some feedback when hes talking about a weird hum that you can barely hear MAAAAAAYBE turn off the music so we can hear what hes talking about just for a sec
would love a video on ground control, looks pretty cool

You need better headphones
I agree with@@CGJoe, I can hear it just fine
I agree that there could be certain parts of the video that shouldn't have background music like when he wasn't talking to have us hear the background noise
Can you make one of these for best EQ settings on Rodecasters without the fancy EQ windows to see what your doing ?
One bit of advice I'd like to share from an old MandalorGaming video where he showed off how he edits.

EQ has always been so confusing for me, and I don't think I have a great ear for it. But this video certainly helps. Thanks Harris!

2 voice I prefer!

Can you make this same video using the Beacn Studio?
The Elgato noise gate is found under the ultra lightweight noise removal plugin ♥
Do I need a specific mic for Elgato Wave Link or does it work with any mic?

I use Vea, I love it
Now if only wavelink didn’t randomly delete every audio channel once every 2 months 🙃
This just happened to me. Not only did it whack an audio channel but I have my editing software going to a aux 1. Davinci reset its defaults when the channel was deleted/renamed. Took me an hour to figure it out. Windos was still sending it to the virtual channel sigh.

Yes. OBS + ReaPlugins. All settings apply and transfer without any problems, just put the same values.
You can use Voicemeter or Steel Steries Sonar to give you the virtual audio channels. I believe Sonar supports VSTs. Like others said, you can just use the plug ins in OBS.
Could ya tell me what mic you're using? I believe it's a Shure, but don't know what model.

Harris, any tips on why WaveLink keeps starting up with some features OFF?
I have had this problem for years now. So annoying.
I have a weird noise on my mic too, but i CANNOT find the frequency of it. It must be some kind of interference from something somewhere.......it gets worse when I play games...........I dont know what it is and its very annoying.

I downloaded the Presets but the saved page you had never popped up... Is their an update coming or is it glitched for me
I prefer your sound without the effects, but that's just because the compressor is either too aggressive or the threshold is too low.
Not all people has Wave Link, wich i find useless for this Masterclass, maybe consider using another software.
Yeah, were kind of hoping for this kind of lesson but using only REA-plugins in obs. This feels more like an elgato ad than a masterclass.
Yea the background music made it almost impossible apart from the initial spot the difference at the start to hear any changes you were talking about - overlay music or background music really shouldn't have been on this at all.
hi senpai make video on fifine Ampligame D6 streaming deck
👏👏👏
The second voice
any way to do this with a USB mic
Quick one.. why don’t you open up windows sound control panel , go to recording devices and just select “listen to device”
No need to keep recording videos you can hear the mic settings in real time
1st setting
I Need this but for MacOS
Are you going for the Rush Limbaugh over compressed talking from a garbage can sound?
Have you ever considered working with someone that knows how to mix voiceover?
The first voice example has too much compression
2:10 What happened to your arm? :O
I thought the 2nd was better haha
💅
i like the 2nd just because I don't hear the mouth noises with your voice though I like the clarity of 1. But mouth noises gross me out.

He should be using a De-Esser. Noise gate should come before EQ. De-Esser, then Compressor.

Great video, please stop playing he music when you're asking us to listen to changes in your mic audio.
I don't hear any difference
NEW VIDEO AT 11 PM
I appreciate the time making these videos but I would suggest not focusing on elgatos app. This would reach a wider audience if you stuck to OBS and VSTs.
I decided to sell my Bridge Cast X and get a new GoXLR partly based on your recent video about it
Thanks
