    Awesome video as always Giles! The things that make your channel unique is the fact that you video yourself hiking to your location and the very minimal amount of gear you use. Mad props to you brother! Thank you for sharing your adventures with us!

    A joy to watch as ever Giles. Can't beat the British countryside, especially during the warmer months. And the English countryside in particular, as varied as it is always has a special place in my heart. The pub stops were a nice touch because let's face it, who doesn't enjoy a pint or three in a beer garden on a nice day. Trouble is that the heat always amplifies the effects so I did get a bit concerned when you started on the knife work😂 And the kebabs looked absolutely amazing👍 All in all, not a bad way to kick off a lazy fathers day. Thank you

      Thanks very much for watching and I appreciate the comment - yeah, the skewers are really lightweight and being so long and also thin it is hard to replicate this out in the woods even if you can get some decent dogwood. Thx again 👍

    I love the simplicity of your cooking set up. That fire holder works a treat and keeps the fire small and manageable; both in fuel needs and scar etc. The simple genius of the pot hanger is art... truly art. It all works, doesn't cost huge money and generates a ot of fun and satisfaction. Well done.

    Brilliant! Thanks again for sharing your latest outing with us, Giles.
    I'm glad you were able to get out and make use of this lovely weather we've been having.
    I like the idea of being able to fit in a 'pub crawl' on your hike! It must be really nice to be able to slot-in several 'rehydration stations' en route to your overnight location. You're very lucky to be able to roam such a beautiful area, and you always seem to have a lot of deer about, too. I've only seen one deer in my area in more than thirty years.
    Those kebabs looked very tasty, I'll have try that myself. Have you thought about using those thin bamboo kebab skewers that you can get? They'd be lighter to carry than metal ones, and you could then throw them on the fire when you finish rather than carry them home again.
    I loved hearing the birdsong again, even the crows, it always gives me such a feeling of peace and tranquility.
    Take care, Giles, see you again.

    • @gilesbinyon
      @gilesbinyon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you once again Adrian. Really appreciate you watching the vids and making your lovely comments. And I hope you can also get out in the good weather too. Yeah, it’s lovely seeing deer a lot around here. But I think without their natural apex predators they can become a nuisance to tree s etc.
      That’s a great idea about the cane skewers. I’ll start to look out for some long ones.
      Thx for that and thx for your support. Take care Bud 🍺👍

    I still marvel at your small fire/screen system. For myself, I would need a larger tarp to protect my legs and feet, and I am a shorter fella. When we visited England, I came to appreciate local pubs and free houses. CAMRA was already having a big impact on independent brewers. This video brought back memories of pleasant pub gardens and characterful traditional interiors. We also benefited from the upgraded interest in 'pub grub.'

    And, another good 👍 one. You do have some great views where you hike. I love the architecture of those old English villages. Be interesting to live in one of those. Liked the pubs. One you were in in another video reminded me of the one in the British TV series “Peak Practice”. Do they serve the beer warm or cold? Do you make those round fire starters you use, or do you buy them? Cold spell moving in here. Going to be 21F for a high on Friday, with a low of 11F. Saturday the low will be 9F. Winter 🥶 must be coming. Stay warm, mate, and have one 🍺for me.

      @gilesbinyon  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Steven 🍺🍺 . Glad you find the villages around here interesting - a lot of the cottages are a few hundred years old. Yeah, the ‘brown beers’ eg bitters and some ales are served at cellar temperature - which can feel warm in some Pubs. The lagers are chilled. The fire starters are cotton wool make-up pads saturated in (old recycled) candle wax 😊👍
      Crikey !!! Sounds like it’s gonna get freezing cold - we would almost never get the temperature you are expecting on Friday 🥶 Good luck - stay warm Bud 🇺🇸🇬🇧

      @@gilesbinyon Hi Giles. Just checking some emails from TH-cam and and saw this one. Yeah, it does get cold here. Our winter temps can range from 4 C down to -22 C. It can a little warmer or colder, but generally in that range. The coldest I can remember was around -34 C. Ya gotta have the clothes for it, that’s for sure. I can’t believe some of the things the kids wear to school. And adults that wear light weight coats in the car. All well and good until your car breaks down. Thanks for the info on the beer temps. Probably about 1:00am in the UK. Have a good day tomorrow. 😉 🇺🇸 🇬🇧

What some won't sacrifice in order to share their Craft with others 🙄😏. Quite a bit of beating around the bush in that field .. one wonders what it was?
    Some useful Tips / Reminders shared .. thanks👍.
    Question please .. Ticks not too much a problem? Here in my Wood in Northern Switzerland, we're overrun .. and with an estimated 50% of the little Critters infected.

      Ticks aren’t bad here really- I have been lucky (shouldn’t have said that tho 😳). Do you mean that half your ticks are infected with Lyme disease ? Wow - that’s a bit scary. Don’t know the proportion over here but a YT channel ‘uk wildcrafts’ has a great video - ‘5 tips for avoiding ticks’ or something like that. I thought it was useful and follow some of the tips if at all possible. May be worth checking it out. Good luck and thx again 🍺👍

      Yep .. an estimated approx 50% with Lyme Disease here in Northern Switzerland. There is a Vaccine for it (which I've had .. although I am NOT a vaccine Fanboy, but considering the risk, deemed this one appropriate). It is valid for 10 years and after 5 .. so far so good.
      Tick precautions .. I follow them all .. thanks. Actually, over my entire life, as far as I can recall, I've only ever have had to physically remove one tick .. and that was about week or so ago after walking the pooch along an overgrown forest path wearing shorts. I spray Apple Cider Vinegar on my feet and ankles. Very good against Foot Fungi, keeps em fresh and apparently ticks are not particularly fond of the aroma. A garlic-rich diet also seems to have helped 😏.

      @@catherinewalks1207 thx Catherine - great to hear from you and hope you are well. Yeah, it was hot which made a few ‘rehydration’ stops essential…. purely from a safety standpoint of course.
      Had a few bites this year but not many luckily (usually discovered the next day oddly enough?!?!). No ticks so far - touch wood. But I try to avoid damp grassy areas. Keep safe and well and hope you get out again soon 😊
