Just been watching all your vids. and it reminded me of a 'family tale' (true story). A relative (great grand father ) wanted to see his sweetheart. Trouble was she was 200 miles away. So he started walking! With only what he had on and the things in his pocket, he walked. Slept in ditches and hedgerows. Foraged food (and I am sure used a good few pubs! lol). Thing is he was poor and what he did was not uncommon. If you were not rich and wanted to go somewhere You walked! Dossed down where you could and walked. I admire what you do. Looking into it, its actually quite hard to remove all plastic from camping gear and not need a pack mule!
Thanks very much Alan. I’m glad you like the videos and I really enjoyed your comment. Yeah, you hit the nail on the head - the only way that ordinary folk could get anywhere was to start walking. And the story of your great grandfather is wonderful because he did it and what’s more he did it for love. What a family tale to pass on to the younger generations !!! Avoiding synthetics is always a bit of a work in progress because it is so hard and companies just do not (much) cater for this market - but maybe they will yet. Compromises will, no doubt, have to be made. And you’re right, the extra weight can make things harder as well. I just try to reduce the amount of stuff carried in an attempt to keep pack weight and size down. But I’m sure that, more skilful choice and/or more costly gear would help too. Cheers Buddy 👍
What a splendid captivating transmission indeed Giles, I thoroughly enjoyed watching Old Chap! I was thinking.. Is he really going to resist that pub with a glint in his eye. 🤣🤣🤣🍻Thirsty work indeed and rude not to. A man after my own heart. Isn't the history magnificent and how humans use the geology throughout the ages time and time again from a Saxon Fort to smuggling.. "Maidons and money.." Nothing changes.. 🤣 I love your set up and can you imagine how many people over the time periods have walked, fought and stayed there where you were ?! Waking up to that vista.. Thanks awfully Old Chap, really appreciate Mr S.D. watching and making that simply spiffing comment. Totally with you on that old man - what a wonderful historic little island we have - HURRAH !!! 😊👍🍺🍺👍
Thank you Christine. I appreciate your support - and I think you have been supporting me for a long time but perhaps I am slightly confused !!! I thought I watched you on TH-cam but now I cannot find you !!!. I am very sorry if I have mixed you up with somebody else. But anyway, thank you for watching and making such a lovely comment 🌲🔥😊👍
Cheers Marc. Appreciated Mate. Yeah, would love to be able to walk past the Pub but ‘rules is rules’ when it comes to rehydration (as I told my wife 😂). Cheers Buddy 🍺🍺👍
That alcohol stove is a great thing to have as dry as the ground looks and alcohol has been around before people camped for fun. Stay safe love the videos.
Thanks very much Allan, appreciate your support. Yeah, interesting things these dew ponds and nice to hear you have one still functioning in your village 😊👍
Thanks very much Nobby - appreciate you watching and commenting. Yeah, we’re very lucky to live in this part of the world alright. Hope your crooked hand is getting better and your brother has settled in okay. Take care Buddy 🍺🍺👍
Morning Giles .. 👍👍👍 .. another good one .. pleasure in watching Simplicity at it's most Complex. Thanks for sharing 😊. Dedication to the Trade too .. deviating a 3/4 mile from one's path to an established watering hole in order to show us a defunct one. And then the 'taking of the soup' at a Churchyard 😳😏. Yep, here in the Schweiz, we are still labouring under a total forest fire ban. To reduce any possible cases of severe apoplexy amongst the ever-vigilent 'Swiss Grannies', I currently even limit Meths Stove use to open Municipal Parks. Once again Giles, a good one. Looking forward to the next and until then, take care .. Tommy
Thanks very much as always Tommy - appreciate your comments and support. This comment had me laughing too - especially your on-going saga with the Swiss Grannies 😂🤣😂🤣 Hoping yous guys get some rain soon which will get the ‘Gestapo in Drag’ off your backs !!! 🤣😂🤣😂 Cheers Tommy 🍺🍺👍
Great to see another of your excellent videos Giles, relaxing watch as you catch the late summer sun on the Downs. A few crafty beers for good measure, { we have to support local business in this time of need } thanks for posting Giles, till next time.👍
Always appreciate your kind support ultrarunner. And totally agree with you about the Pub. It’s all about microeconomics (nothing to do with will power 😉😉😉🤣😂🤣😂🍺🍺🍺). Cheers Bud 🍺🍺👍
Thank you very much Marty - appreciate you watching and such a wonderful comment. I don’t deserve such kind words - I’m just having fun really. Your support is much appreciated and I’m glad you liked this video my Friend 😊👍
I'm always pleasantly surprised at how much countryside there is in the world's 8th largest island. We have a lot of bush but none of these public paths across farmland so we are actually restricted unless we go hundreds of miles out of the city. Last time I flew into Gatwick I remember thinking how England was, indeed, a green jewel of a land. Always enjoy your videos, Giles.
Thank you kindly. Always appreciate your support. Yeah, we are lucky to have this on our rather crowded island - although one would need to travel north to Scotland for some true ‘wilderness’ . Thx again 🍺🍺👍
I always say giles, 'we're waterlings.' One things for certain we're 70% of it and so it is precious. Them dew ponds were common once - mainly with subsistence farmers. Good to see them - glad you went off piste. Hey, great seeing the Kingfisher to - it forms my channel logo. They're a buzz to see. Well, fantastic camp - good nights, which you can't argue with eh? Thanks for sharing such a good explore. All the best. Mark
Thank you very much Mark - appreciated. Yeah, we’re deffo gonna have to get used to using our precious water more wisely. And start policing our water companies whom, despite nice profits, are causing our seas and waterways to be more polluted than they were a few tens of years ago ! Thx again and keep exploring 🍺🍺👍
Like your vids very much. I try to work out your menus. :) No meat, so it seems, but beans, pots, carrots and something else, which I guess takes the place of meat/dairy, all stewed/ boiled. Is that right? Have you ever had animals bother you in the night? I once had a hedgehog, snuffling an empty beer can. :) I move him and the beer can away and left him to it. :) Also, deer standing off, barking at me. Made me shiver a bit.
Thanks very much for watching and commenting Ray. Yeah, in this video I tried to use the quinoa to sub for the protein/meat. Sometimes I use soy chunks. All this stuff is light and very easy to carry. I use a lot of home dehydrated veg but like to mix it up with fresh for a tasty meal. Yeah, animal noises are part of the fun of wild camping aren’t they. But it can be a little strange too 😳 Cheers 😊👍
A peaceful and relaxing wild camp blessed with outdoors cooking thanks giles for taking us along with you ( each trip helps with my mental health to recharge my mind )
Thank you very much Tim. So glad you enjoy the trips and that they help you. And I really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment - thanks 😊👍
As an old Sussex boy living in far off Wales it's nice to see the Downs that I remember from my wanderings of long ago. Thanks for the videos Giles, keep them coming. 👍
Thanks very much John. Really appreciate you watching and commenting. I expect Wales can offer some amazing hills and mountains for exploring - hope you get to enjoy them 👍
Thanks Giles, I like the simplicity of your wild camp set-up💯,. You demonstrate how to enjoy the British countryside and take advantage of suitable drinking opportunities🍻🍺
Thank you Keri. Really appreciate your support and comments too. Yeah, one must always be concerned about hydration and thus should not miss out on a rehydration opportunity 🍺🍺🍺🍺😉👍
Delightful as always Giles - thank you. I love to see the changing seasons that you manage to show so well. Looking forward to seeing your Autumn exploits. Cheers from Sunny Southern California.
Thanks very much Stephen - appreciated. Sunny Southern California will be in my head now as winter draws in !!! Hoping it’s not too hot and you manage to get out for the odd adventure ☀️Cheers and thx again 😊👍
Celery is a great enricher of soups and veg mixes; as you say, like salt with depth. I guess it travels quite well too. Loved the wide views in this one and the freshness of the morning when you were first up. Somehow I'm motivated at the moment to travel from one place to another and explore, but this reminds me of what a good thing it is just to be out for a quiet night in the countryside.
Thank you Catherine, appreciate you taking the time to watch and love to hear your comments. Interesting to hear your recent urge to get travelling and discovering - this is reflected in your more recent wonderful videos which, by the way, inspire me (and others no doubt) to feel the same way !!! Hope all settled in for the new term. Take care, keep walking !!! 😊👍
Love to see you do some of your camps down here in Devon& Cornwall, would be amazing filming on Dartmoor Giles. And we’d look after you, plenty of pubs on ‘the moor’🍻
Thanks as always Peter, appreciate your support. And that’s an interesting suggestion. I have been to Dartmoor (not wild camping) and it is stunning. You’re right, I should consider travelling further afield. Thx again 👍
Thanks again sir for another wonderful video I've been waiting I was a little downhearted because you could not have a fire. I've been suffering from insomnia I've had this problem for 30 years I've been treated for a condition. So thank you for your efforts to fill me in the other team in all your time that you put into it. Your friend as always be safe with no Trace and I'm with you in spirit Arizona Dave
Thanks very much Dave. Always great to hear from you but I am sorry you have been struggling with insomnia. I hope it improves without having to resort to severe medication. Yeah, missing the little fires but hope to get the chance again soon. Cheers Bud 🍺🍺👍
Great as always to hear from you Keith. Hoping you are well and good. Thanks for watching and such a nice comment. I’m away quite a bit at the moment so the videos may be a bit intermittent 😐. Take care Buddy 🍺🍺👍
Another lovely time out there Giles. Some interesting snippets of history , lovely scenery presented nicely 👍. Shame about that darn humid weather forcing you into the pub though 😂. Take care bud 🏕
@@gilesbinyon 😂 . No worries Giles . Love the vids . Off on a wax and wool style camp this weekend hopefully. My packs a bit heavy though 😂 . Take care bud 👍🏕
Good to see you again, Giles, and I've got to say you looked really happy at the start of this video. And who can blame you, it really looked like a glorious day to be out, with some 'to-die-for' scenery! Whenever I watch your videos I'm reminded of the camping holidays we used to have when I was a child. My dad would take my brother and I to the south of England every summer, and twice at least to the South Downs. The holiday would be shared between walking and wildlife-spotting (including plant-spotting and reptile-spotting) and the beaches, but the enduring memory I have is of us wandering around beneth the warm sun, surrounded by the scent of the grass and other plants, and the sounds of the birds and insects. It was interesting to hear about the dew-ponds, I'd never heard of those before. A curious name for them! That kingfisher was a luck addition to the video, I played it back a few times watching it fly past. When I slowed it down, your voice sounded like you'd already been to the pub! :D I remember when I was little and saw my first one by the brook where I grew up. Upon seeing the blue flash I shouted at the top of my voice and pointed, "Kingfisher!" only to be told off by my mum for my sudden loud outburst. She didn't share my excitement. Gosh, as I write this there's a sudden thunderstorm and the heaviest rain I've seen in years, there's even hailstones mixed in! It sounded like a buzzard came to check you out at 17:40. What you were saying about celery is interesting too. We noticed it is listed in the ingredients of lots of stock flavourings, especially vegetable stock, and also that its name, celery, is similar to sel, the French word for salt. When you said that you were up making a cup of tea in the night it reminded me of how I am sometimes. I'll often be enjoying it so much being out there that I can't settle down to sleep very early. That was a great last shot as you were getting smaller and smaller in the middle of the screen and then disappeared to the left at the end. Thank you so much, once again, for sharing your outing, a very enjoyable excursion even for those that weren't there. It's always worth the wait when you bring another one out. Take care Giles, and hopefully see you again on another one soon.
Thanks so much Adrian. Your support is much appreciated and your comments are so nice but also very interesting to read. I’d say you have so many happy childhood memories of being with family and nature in the great outdoors. And a lot in this area of southern England too. Very interesting about the French word for salt and the name celery - I’m deffo gonna do some internet searching on that to see if there is a connection. Was really lucky to get the Kingfisher ‘fly past’ albeit just the amazing flash of bright metallic colour - amazing. And lucky to get a bit of a rollicking in the woods from a buzzard !!! I’m away on and off for a bit at the moment so the videos may not be very regular - but I’ll try. If you upload one I should get the notification as I’m subbed to you also. Cheers my Friend take care 👍
Really enjoyable video again Giles but I think a Gremlin got in as for a brief moment there was a clip of you drinking a nice cool glass of lager and I thought that can't be Giles surely !? A cracking end to a beautiful summer mate... look forward to your autumn adventures..
Cheers Martyn. Yeah, I think someone must have hacked into my editing program and ‘photo shopped’ me where, of course, I wasn’t ……. Appreciate you watching and commenting 🍺🍺👍
Ha ha !!! 👓👓👓 yeah, they have to be replaced occasionally !!! Keep them in a trouser side pocket helps them survive !!! Thx for watching and commenting Ishali 😊👍
Nice walk and camp Giles I bet the pints went down well you have had a lot of warm dry weather down there so I don't blame you not having a fire especially if the area sounds a bit busy with people around I've not used a alcohol stove for ages I prefer a gas stove just for quickness the dark nights will soon be upon us and having a fire to sit next to helps us to get through the long hours of darkness atvb Jimmy 😎😎👍👍
Cheers Jimmy. Really appreciate your support Mate. Yeah, I had to have a couple pints purely for safety reasons - dehydration and all that 😉😂🤣😂 You’re right, nothing like a fire on a camp especially in winter but sometimes it just not possible. Cheers Bud 🍺🍺👍
If you think that the humidity is bad there, you should try Vietnam in the summer! That's humidity at its best! Enjoyed this video. Keep up the good work and stay cool and especially hydrated lol! ATB Sam Adler from Vietnam
Thanks once again Sam, appreciate your support. I can only imagine the humidity in Vietnam - it must be very hard to keep hiking !!! But I hope you manage to still get out. Stay cool yourself my Friend 🍺🍺👍
Hello Giles. Great picturesque landscape and very informative as usual. Sounds like you had a buzzard companion for a minute as you set up camp .regards
Thank you very much Barry, appreciate you taking time to watch and comment. Glad you you enjoyed and yeah, I agree with you, I think a Buzzard was not keen on me staying in his woods !!! Cheers 🍺🍺👍
Pliers, you really should carry a small pair of pliers, very useful. Or a multi tool with pliers. I love my two trangia burners. I've had one for over 30 years, still works great. Stay safe and keep on trekking.
Thank you James, always appreciate your support. Yeah, an amazing bit of kit is the Trangia. I can understand why you would carry two - and 30 years shows they can really stand the test-of-time. Pliers would help although I usually rely on good knots (including No Knot) to make life easier. Cheers 😊👍
Just about to settle down in search of a few zzzzd's, after a glass or two of fermented apple juice, when up pops Giles. What better excuse do you need for another enjoyable video and another glass. Good one Giles !
A gorgeous day for it Giles. We've certainly had the weather on our side this summer, but you'll be lighting that fire soon now autumn has arrived. Hoping to get out myself soon as I've been scouting more camp locations around Thetford Forest. Those public houses are dastardly places. You go to walk past but they utilise some kind of magic that draws you in😂 Well, that's what I tell the wife😂😂 Great stuff as usual my dear fellow.
Ha ha !!! Yeah, you’re right Dug, those darn Pubs are to hikers what Mermaids are to sailors !!! 🤣😂🤣😂 Hope you found some good locations in Thetford - happy camping Buddy 🏕🌲🌲🌲Thx for your support Cheers🍺🍺👍
Haha, I somehow guessed that you wouldn't get past that PUB without being Press-Ganged in to sup a few. Mind you, your top was always wet with sweat so well deserved rewards. May I ask what make of boots those are? Thank you.
Ha ha !!! Thanks Robert, yeah I nearly got past the Pub but unfortunately got caught in the car park by the local health & safety officer for the Hiking Association…..he insisted I rehydrate or he would ‘throw the book at me’ ….. well……I had no choice Mate, did I ? The boots are Ex German Army mountain boots - Meindl - they were secondhand but Grade A. I’ve had to make some minor repairs but they have (so far) kept me dry. Think they were £60 - Military Mart. Cheers Buddy hope you are keeping well 🍺🍺👍
Hi Giles. What do you think they would have lined those dew ponds with back in the day? The pub won the battle! I was waiting for the to hell with it again😎😎. Do you know what that plant was that maybe was a companion plant, I couldn't quite make it out. Good bit of cooking buddy, good explanation, celery etc. I cant eat celery fresh, but cooked seems better for me. Your videos are awesome and it's proven by the amount of views you get👍👍. Always an enjoyable watch, cheers Giles
Thanks very much Chris. Really appreciate your kind words and support. I reckon clay was possibly used to line those dew ponds. Not available up in the Downs but plentiful lower down especially towards the coast - dig down 18” in my garden and it’s solid clay !!! Not sure what that planting was or even what it was for (it may even have been volunteer crops from last year - although unlikely). But a nice comment did suggest hemp as a possibility. Yeah, celery is a great and under rated addition to lots of meals. Cheers Buddy, take care 🍺🍺👍
Thank you for another great relaxing video. Living in the North, I have only passed through the area you walk on business. Never had the time to explore. Now alas I am unable to except though you. I think Trangia stoves are often over looked as a (almost) fool proof stove. I use a veg steamer as you do for a twig stove lol.
Thanks very much Alan. I agree, the Trangia is a great bit of kit which has stood the test of time. And it’s simplicity adds to it’s advantage in an outdoor environment. I hope you do manage to get out where you are in the North, it is outstandingly beautiful there. Take care 👍
Oh yes! Thank heaven's you managed to avoid the pub! I'll be back home visiting my daughter and grandkids in Kent in three weeks I'll be trying my best to avoid them too! Wondering if the Cat and Custard pot is still there.
Cheers Simon. Sounds like we are like-minded in our determination to avoid the Pub 🤣😂🤣😂 Try very hard when visiting your family in Kent - although of course, you also cannot break the hiking health & safety rehydration rules 🤔🤫🫢😉
Fancied a cuppa tea at 1am, liked that one Giles..😄 Quick question for you, do you ever have any issues encountering ticks on your travels? I had my first one on the last nights multi-night adventure in the Lakes last week, it was imbedded in my calf! I was horrified to see it attached to me, luckily I had my special removal card at hand, even then it took more force to get the little monster out than I ever realised it would do! I’ve been wild camping since January of this year, and that was my 20th nights solo wild camp. Hoping to never see one on me again 😬
Thank you very much - always appreciate your comments and support. Yeah, tea at 0100 hrs - absolute madness especially considering my night time bladder control !!! 😂🤣😂 Have been totally lucky with ticks so far this year, and a part from a few I think I have got away lightly generally so far - but I’ve also heard that they can strike in numbers so I try to keep reasonably vigilant 😳. But certain areas are worth avoiding - have you watched UK Wildcrafts channel ‘Tips to avoid ticks’ ? Deffo worth a watch. Sounds like your tick was well embedded too 😳 unlucky but you are wise to carry at least one method of removal. Mustn’t let the critters put us off tho. Thx again good luck 👍
@@gilesbinyon your welcome buddy. Thanks for your reply and advice, I’ve watched other TH-cam videos on how to be “tick aware”.. and avoid them as best as possible!..Bloody awful things they are, but like you say we cannot let them put us off from what we love doing, being out in nature and enjoying our mini wild adventures! I knew it was a bad idea though to go well off-piste, trudging through knee high grass and heather… but I was struggling to find a pitch (with daylight against me) on the big hill I’d decided I’d call home for the night! 🤷🏻♂️
I was looking out for your next video, glad it was uploaded. That view early on in the video from the hilltop where you could look to the north downs and the channel was spectacular. What beautiful countryside you have to tramp about in. I could quite happily spend my days wandering about those hills. I also like your setup with your meths burner and metal steamer, very innovative. Looking forward to your next foray. 👍
Cheers Alex. Thanks for watching and especially that kind and interesting comment. I hope you do get to wander the hills of Southern England as much as possible 👍
Fab video Giles. I love the views and the topographical interest. It is a pity that some features have been lost through agricultural activity, or other. Fascinated with the dew ponds. I will have to look up how they were made. All the best. Iain.
thank you Giles, sad to see you pitch in such a wee little wood. very much a problem i'm familiar with in my area where a nice wood more than 200m across is not easy to find. quiet and low profile becomes a habit but i do long for a real forest to disappear into for a few days. that said, always enjoy your outings, sparse woods or otherwise. 👍✌🖖
Thank you kindly as always Tee Eff. I agree with you, it’s so nice to be able to immerse yourself deep into a large forest area. There are a few in this area, however they tend also to be crisscrossed with footpaths and bridle ways too. Ho hum ….😐 thx again and wishing you good camping 👍
@@gilesbinyon been looking for a new video from you for a while it seems. hope you are well and still doing your overnighters. it does one good to think of you out there somewhere taking in the view, avoiding the yew trees. ;)
@@teeeff5179 thanks very much Tee Eff. Yeah, I got out this week and hoping to get out some more soon. I hope you are managing to get into the woods too Buddy. Thx for thinking of me and take care 😊👍
@@gilesbinyon just saw the notification for your new post. 👍👍 good to see you back! finally bought a 1/2 lavuu, inspired by your experiences, hoping for an overnighter before the leaves are gone. other than that i usually manage a 1/2 day out with the squirrels at least once a week. nothing to brag about but it keeps me sane. :)
Thanks for another fascinating video Giles. The Trangia stove works well. I'm thinking of making a twig stove from an old tin can. I've got all the other gear I need, from previous forays into the great outdoors.
Thanks very much Terry - always appreciate your comments. Yeah, isn’t the Trangia a fantastic bit of kit. I think it can be tricky to light in very cold weather perhaps though ? Have you considered using a ‘draining board cutlery holder’ as a Twig Stove ? They are available in many shops and are different sizes, cheap and full of holes. Will last so much longer than a can - just check the stainless steel is of a reasonable thickness. Just a thought - anyway, good luck and thanks again 👍
Hey Giles, thanks for the videos, I love your style of camping, I’m an Englishman living abroad and your videos scratch my British countryside itch so thanks for that, also what pack are you using? Thanks and keep up the good work.
Another great video Giles! Admirable intent to walk past that pub there. Let's not dwell on the subsequent outcome, we're all human. I think I may have mentioned before but I'm impressed with your dedication to all those shots where you're walking past the camera (or similarly walking towards the camera / away from the camera) - I can never be bothered with those! I always just want to get on with the walk, and it's such a faff setting up a tripod and then walking back to pick it up again later... but clearly they make for a much more cinematic (is that the right word?) end result. Also tea at 1am? Sheer madness! I have a strict cut-off at 5pm for tea. Even earlier for coffee (about 3pm). I have enough difficulty getting anything close to a decent night's sleep when wild camping without introducing caffeine into the mix!
Ha ha !!! Thank you very much John - but it wasn’t my fault ! - I was stopped in the Pub car park by the local Hiking Assoc. health & safely Officer who was concerned about my state of hydration - and, as I explained to my wife, ‘rules is rules’ 😉😉😉 Yeah, I put my phone on a pointy stick thing and just jab it into the ground (where possible) and aim and shoot. It does really slow you down but seems the best option for quick deployment and recovery to keep moving. You’re absolutely right of course. With my non-existent nighttime bladder control, 0100 hrs tea parties is just insane !!! Thx as always for your support and keep the camera rolling Buddy 🍺🍺👍
Cheers Hugh. Glad you liked and thx for the support. My Mum found the pot in a secondhand shop. It’s aluminium and has ‘BULL DOG BRAND’ stamped on the bottom. Hope that helps. Cheers 👍
Excellent, relaxing and great content again Giles. I'm hoping to do some wild camps myself soon and put out as videos. Has anyone ever stumbled across you or have you managed to avoid any encounters? Thanks for taking time and providing such great videos for all of your subscribers.
Thanks very much for watching and commenting. I haven’t (so far !!!) been asked to move on or been stumbled across. But often change plans to avoid potential disturbances. And always ready and willing to move out of peoples way. Good luck with the vids 👍
Thanks again Alan. I find the meal is a lot more tasty and feels more ‘normal’ if you can get some fresh ingredients in there. I think onions and carrots are nice fresh and they also travel well. Whereas, mushrooms and green beans/peas are nice dehydrated and travel well in this form. But everyone finds their own way Mate and it sounds like you are onto it 👍 Good luck Alan 😊👍 thx again
Some really nice scenery this time! Just curious about something. Do you wear your sleep trousers over your hiking pants, or do you change? I like that little spirit burner. Comes in handy, but doesn’t add much weight. I love the little English villages. I’ve watched a lot of English TV series, like “Foyle’ War”, “Endeavor”, “Peak Practice”, “Grantchester”, etc, and I like the villages they take place in. I know they are movies, but nice anyway.
Thanks very much Steven. Yeah, I wear that ‘all in one’ over the top of my trousers. But I put a jumper or two over the top of it for my body. Glad you like the English villages - they are pretty quaint but these days get a lot of traffic which takes some of the good away 🫤 Cheers my Friend 👍

i never used the no knot till i started watching your videos, I use it all the time now, lol.
Thanks very much John. Really glad you are getting some use out of the No Knot - handy knot with many uses. Thx again 😊👍
THANK YOU Dear friend for taking me with you on a beautiful journey - Have a wonderful week 👣🌲🌲🌲
Thank you kindly Ofer. Your support is very much appreciated as always. Have a good week yourself also 🌲👣👍
Beautiful weather, beautiful country side. I hope you all live forever.
Thank you very much Christopher - really appreciate you watching and making that lovely comment 😊👍
Another good one 👍 glad you managed to find a little patch of woodland to set up in 👍 and a pint or several is always a must on a hot day haha .
Cheers Marc. Appreciated Mate. Yeah, would love to be able to walk past the Pub but ‘rules is rules’ when it comes to rehydration (as I told my wife 😂). Cheers Buddy 🍺🍺👍
Thanks, Giles. Thank goodness you could rehydrate at that Brew Pond. 😉👍🍺

Thx very much Brian. And you’re right, I was lucky to find that handy Brew Pond !!! Cheers 🍺🍺👍
That alcohol stove is a great thing to have as dry as the ground looks and alcohol has been around before people camped for fun. Stay safe love the videos.
Thanks very much Kenneth. As always appreciate your support. Yeah, the Trangia stove is such a Trooper 😊👍
Brilliant upload my friend, gorgeous thumbnail too.👌👌
Thank you kindly Ervinslens, that’s very kind. And glad you liked the thumbnail too 😊👍
Another interesting adventure. Like the history of the dew ponds, we have a working one in our village, it gets loads of cattails growing in it.👋😀
Thanks very much Allan, appreciate your support. Yeah, interesting things these dew ponds and nice to hear you have one still functioning in your village 😊👍
Great vid Giles. We live in a gorgeous country. Chuck in a bit of history, good scran and no frills kit and a quality wild camp results
This comment had me laughing too - especially your on-going saga with the Swiss Grannies 😂🤣😂🤣
Hoping yous guys get some rain soon which will get the ‘Gestapo in Drag’ off your backs !!! 🤣😂🤣😂
Cheers Tommy 🍺🍺👍
@@gilesbinyon 👍😁
I've enjoyed spending a total of six months in der Schweiz Tommy ... two business trips and one holiday. 👍😊
Hello Giles, stealth camping skills 10/10, videography 10/10, might want to work on those pub avoidance skills though mate 😂.
Ha ha !!! Cheers Paul. You’re absolutely right - a bit of work to do in that department. I will try really hard 🤥🤥🤥 …..
😂🤣 Thx again 🍺🍺👍
Great to see another of your excellent videos Giles, relaxing watch as you catch the late summer sun on the Downs. A few crafty beers for good measure, { we have to support local business in this time of need } thanks for posting Giles, till next time.👍
Always appreciate your kind support ultrarunner. And totally agree with you about the Pub. It’s all about microeconomics (nothing to do with will power 😉😉😉🤣😂🤣😂🍺🍺🍺). Cheers Bud 🍺🍺👍
Hi Giles. Loved the video as usual.. Recognised the walk especially the pub.. Lovely area.. Wait in anticipation for the next one..👍.
Thank you kindly Jennifer - glad you liked and thank you for your support. Yeah, you’re right, it’s a beautiful area 😊👍
Giles you make it look effortless.... Cooking, cinematography, selecting and setting camp, historical research. Wonderful bro👌😉KTF🙏
Thank you very much Marty - appreciate you watching and such a wonderful comment. I don’t deserve such kind words - I’m just having fun really. Your support is much appreciated and I’m glad you liked this video my Friend 😊👍
Nice place, looked very calm.
Thank you very much for watching and commenting 👍
Old school, good thanks 👍
Cheers Gary, much appreciated 🍺🍺👍

@@gilesbinyon Thank you , thats most welcome. Atvb to you and yours mate 👍
I remember when I was little and saw my first one by the brook where I grew up.
@@gilesbinyon Thanks, Giles. I hope you can enjoy your time away.

Thanks for another great video Giles, Though I do wonder how your glasses survive. 😎
Yeah, I had to have a couple pints purely for safety reasons - dehydration and all that 😉😂🤣😂
You’re right, nothing like a fire on a camp especially in winter but sometimes it just not possible. Cheers Bud 🍺🍺👍
Enjoyed the video. Look forward to seeing the next one. All the best.
Thanks very much Red Walker - appreciated 😊👍
If you think that the humidity is bad there, you should try Vietnam in the summer! That's humidity at its best! Enjoyed this video. Keep up the good work and stay cool and especially hydrated lol! ATB Sam Adler from Vietnam
Thanks once again Sam, appreciate your support. I can only imagine the humidity in Vietnam - it must be very hard to keep hiking !!! But I hope you manage to still get out. Stay cool yourself my Friend 🍺🍺👍
Or inland Mexico, for the same reason!
Cheers 😊👍
Now thats how you do it! 👍
Thank you very much Pete - much appreciated 👍
Just about to settle down in search of a few zzzzd's, after a glass or two of fermented apple juice, when up pops Giles. What better excuse do you need for another enjoyable video and another glass. Good one Giles !
Thank you Allen. Glad the video provided the excuse for 🍺 at bedtime 😂🤣 Appreciate you watching and commenting 😊👍
Hope you found some good locations in Thetford - happy camping Buddy 🏕🌲🌲🌲Thx for your support Cheers🍺🍺👍
"Here's the pub. I'm going to avoid this."
**moments later**
Ha ha !!! I deffo need to work on my will power 😂🤣😂🤣
Thx for the support Scotbot 🍺🍺👍
Fancied a cuppa tea at 1am, liked that one Giles..😄
Quick question for you, do you ever have any issues encountering ticks on your travels?
I had my first one on the last nights multi-night adventure in the Lakes last week, it was imbedded in my calf!
I was horrified to see it attached to me, luckily I had my special removal card at hand, even then it took more force to get the little monster out than I ever realised it would do!
I’ve been wild camping since January of this year, and that was my 20th nights solo wild camp.
Hoping to never see one on me again 😬
Thank you very much - always appreciate your comments and support. Yeah, tea at 0100 hrs - absolute madness especially considering my night time bladder control !!! 😂🤣😂
Have been totally lucky with ticks so far this year, and a part from a few I think I have got away lightly generally so far - but I’ve also heard that they can strike in numbers so I try to keep reasonably vigilant 😳.
Good to see you out again Giles, thanks for taking us along with you, Stay safe, Jack
Thanks very much Jack - appreciated. You stay safe too Bud 👍
Better late then never 👍🏻 thankyou kindly hope all is good with yourself
Thanks very much Duane. Appreciate you watching and those kind words. Cheers 🍺🍺👍
Fab video Giles. I love the views and the topographical interest. It is a pity that some features have been lost through agricultural activity, or other. Fascinated with the dew ponds. I will have to look up how they were made. All the best. Iain.
Thanks very much Iain, always appreciate your support. Yeah, so many historical features - I wish I had more of a historical understanding. Cheers 👍
Wow England Giles! Now that's a long way from home for me! You earned yourself a new Sub my guy!
Thank you kindly Stephen. Appreciate you watching and your support 😊👍
thank you Giles, sad to see you pitch in such a wee little wood. very much a problem i'm familiar with in my area where a nice wood more than 200m across is not easy to find. quiet and low profile becomes a habit but i do long for a real forest to disappear into for a few days. that said, always enjoy your outings, sparse woods or otherwise. 👍✌🖖
Thank you kindly as always Tee Eff. I agree with you, it’s so nice to be able to immerse yourself deep into a large forest area. There are a few in this area, however they tend also to be crisscrossed with footpaths and bridle ways too. Ho hum ….😐

this was actually so much fun to watch great camp
Thank you very much Lloydi - appreciate your kind words - especially so coming from such a quality video maker - Cheers 👍
@@gilesbinyon great idea thanks, I'll look for one.
Hey Giles, thanks for the videos, I love your style of camping, I’m an Englishman living abroad and your videos scratch my British countryside itch so thanks for that, also what pack are you using?
Thanks and keep up the good work.
Thanks very much Jay - appreciated 👍 Yeah, the pack is ex - Croatian Army if I remember. Great value and seems tough and all cotton canvas. Cheers 👍
- I was stopped in the Pub car park by the local Hiking Assoc. health & safely Officer who was concerned about my state of hydration - and, as I explained to my wife, ‘rules is rules’ 😉😉😉
Yeah, I put my phone on a pointy stick thing and just jab it into the ground (where possible) and aim and shoot.

Excellent, relaxing and great content again Giles. I'm hoping to do some wild camps myself soon and put out as videos. Has anyone ever stumbled across you or have you managed to avoid any encounters?
Thanks for taking time and providing such great videos for all of your subscribers.
Thanks very much for watching and commenting. I haven’t (so far !!!) been asked to move on or been stumbled across. But often change plans to avoid potential disturbances. And always ready and willing to move out of peoples way. Good luck with the vids 👍
I meant to ask. Why do you not dehydrate some of the other veggies? I dehydrate onions, carrots, etc But you take some as fresh. Any reason?

@@gilesbinyon I don't know, I watch on my iPad. I don't have any Problems with other Channels, it's just sometimes you are a long way from your Camera or face away and that's when it's hard to hear
What you do say is very Interesting and I get frustrated when I can't hear what you are saying
I don't like earphones
But Top Videos all the same
@@frankfox8784 thanks again Frank. Yeah, it doesn’t help that I rely on the phone camera microphone. I think I probably don’t speak up or very clearly sometimes. I am not very good at trying to think about the message and trying to speak it at the same time. I will concentrate on editing and perhaps increasing the sound volume on the talking clips (as long as there is not interference noise like wind etc). Thank you for watching and supporting the videos Frank 👍
