    i ran a studio in teh 90's that used 2 dp/4s and i know how this must have sounded in the flesh. we used to turn all the lights out in the control room and do this with the dp4's. still a WORLD CLASS piece of gear IMO

    Beautiful work Don.I love it when you take an instrument and take on a new unconventional spin.Punk ethics win prizes.

    Phenomenal piece. I have always thought of the DP-4 as an instrument but never realised you can make a solo piece with it. Thank you for sharing.

    Actually this was full serial path and no filters were used. But i intend to start exploring the feedback algorithm connection and the filters, as these will provide basic tools for physical modeling. Thank you Ensoniq for such a great machine (and dirt cheap these days).

    ahhhh! this unit was amazing. I used to work in a small comunity tv chanel in 95 or 96. I do not know why, the owner bought one of this expensive unit. It was really fun to edit the sounds and scores.

    LOVE Ensoniq gear... I've spent far too long fixing and messing about with it... but nothing beats it, it's just SO quirky and awesome. The other day, my ASR-10 crashed (one of the harmless random crashes you get when you intensively save/move instruments), and went APESHIT when I rebooted it, the VFD started flashing in weird hypnotic sequences! It's never done it before, or since, and that's owning 4 ASR-10s, for the past 4+ years, it's batshit insane!

      which do you prefer?? Also does anyone else notice the dp4 has terrible bypass? My only complaint but quite a problem for a rack!!

    I´m still using the unit for atmospheric soundscapes. Back in the 90´s it was so much fun to control Pitchshift fx by CV control by Korg MS-20 bender.

    • @skuzbouquet6211
      @skuzbouquet6211 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      can you please tell me how you set up the dp4 for atmosphere and also the ms20 bender! thanx

    • @intnrmri
      @intnrmri 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@skuzbouquet6211 You use the Pedal CV input on the back coming from the MS-20 bender output. Then in the patches go to Modulation, set source to the Pedal CV and set the modulation destination to any parameter in the patch ex. pitch shift semitones.

    Lots of great noodling patches available for Nord Modular for anyone whos into this kind of sound, maybe not quite as lush but with some effects can really come to life.

    Could you share how you made these? And do you think a DP/2 would be able to do something like this too?

    • @intnrmri
      @intnrmri 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These patches require more units, for example sine/noise generator -> pitch shifter -> phaser -> reverb. With only two units I would recommend using a synths instead of the sine generator and the with the 2 effects you can still do something cool.

  • @TheLucaaw

    Hi there sorry if this is dumb but how are you getting any sound if nothing is plugged into the inputs? Is this not just an effects processor? Amazing sounds btw!!

    • @dunk8157
      @dunk8157 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You just need a little noise/hiss I would imagine and after a while it would build up.

    • @intnrmri
      @intnrmri 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dunk8157 There's also a sine/noise generator algorithm that even has filtering and EQ parameters.

    one word - HOW

  • @exdeecee
    @exdeecee ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The patches shown in the above video were put up on YT 10 years ago. 1 year ago you replied to a user here, who asked "Don...can I buy these patches from you please ?" - and you replied "All gone. My fault. I might recreate them one day." I just checked out the YT-video demonstrating patches from your new (March 2023) soundset for DP4/DP4+ at th-cam.com/video/rR9FDAwIRJA/w-d-xo.html. There doesn't appear to be anything resembling the atmosphere-generator-patches shown above (and on the "refurb-video" here: th-cam.com/video/eg2UkqdnEUk/w-d-xo.html).
    So those patches are not in your Ensoniq DP4 DP4+ Essentials Vol1. Will you be recreating the "atmosphere-generator-patches" shown above anytime soon?
