      @@kingkresenda Hi Kresenda! This dash cam does not support Wifi to connect to your phone. Wifi and APP support on mirror dash cams is a rare option, however here is one that supports it th-cam.com/video/bLeXLaiJq0o/w-d-xo.html Regarding using the cigarette lighter plug, that is optional, the dash cam can also be powered with the hardwire kit here th-cam.com/video/0KwoF1ZVnsc/w-d-xo.html (which also enables parking monitoring) Hope this helps, Cheers!

    Excellent and very concise videos. One of the reason I bought this unit. Only issue I had was when I used the hard wire kit, I couldn't figure out why the mirror would constantly stay on and not turn off.

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Greg! ah yes regarding the hardwire kit it sounds like the dash cam is staying on all the time instead of going into park mode when the car is turned off. Here is the video for the hardwire kit showing the connections th-cam.com/video/K2iKXj82354/w-d-xo.html If I had to guess, it possible that ACC and BAT have been reversed or ACC was hooked to a fuse spot that never turns off (this will make the hardwire kit think the car is running and will keep the dash cam on continuously potentially draining the battery, I seen both cases, very common for either of these scenarios to happen during the install). Cheers!

      @AlexAutoFun  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You're welcome and thank you eseoghenealaboru! Ah yes the G900 is Wolfbox's flagship product where the G850 is one level below it. So if you need best image quality and budget is not a concern then the G900 is going to be the way to go. And if you have a set budget or don't need the highest picture quality, the G850 may be more than sufficient. And here is my full review for the G850 V2 th-cam.com/video/7UbJk32_k5Y/w-d-xo.html so you can see the rest of its features and compare it against the G900 (the G850 show on this video is V1). Hi Alex. Hey its January 2024. How come I haven't seen any new 4K Rear View Dash Cam products or reviews? Are they no longer popular or have we reached maximum advances? What 4K Rear View Mirror would be a great one to purchase today? Why haven't these manufacturers incorporated the GPS module into the mirror? Looking to buy one YESTERDAY. Please recommend.

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Naroot! Ah yes there are no true 4K rear view dash cams in the market yet. There are various reasons including technical limitations (which could be overcome) and also part of a perceived lack of demand for a dash cam capable of 4K for the rear view. I actually have a a video on the works where I cover this in great detail (not many people have asked me about this topic but I think it is an interesting one to cover). Regarding built in GPS antennas yes it has already been done but again I think there may not be much demand for this feature. I reviewed one that has it integrated but made no mention of this in the review (purposely to see if anyone would notice this rare feature) and so far only one person mentioned noticing the integrated GPS feature. So while it is possible to have it integrated, it's likely other manufacturers will be slow in adopting this if there is no perceived market advantage to do so. Cheers!

      @@AlexAutoFun Alex thanks for your reply. Maybe I worded it wrong. I meant 4K Front, 2K Rear View Mirror like the Wolfbox G900. Would you recommend it? Maybe you can add some more Recommend 4K Mirror Dashcams LINKS on the Details below section so I can purchase from your link. Yes too bad they can't integrate the GPS in the Mirror. It would eliminate an extra device you have to plug in to the mirror. I wish the Manufacturers would also design a mirror that the plugs were in the back of the mirror and NOT the top. The plugs are an eye sore.

    Hello, Great review :) Is there any lag between the video and the real world when viewing the reverse camera?

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Nicholas! and thank you! good question too, I'm sure there has to be a delay (all signals have a delay of some sort, it cannot arrive immediately as a signal has to travel) the good thing is that so far on all the mirror dash cams I have not detected (or felt) any significant delay. I'm sure it's there but it must be so small is undetectable to most people. The easiest way to experience an LCD mirror before buying one and check for lag would be to test drive a new C8 or a new Toyota/ Lexus, the higher end models come standard with an LCD mirror. I use my as a rear view mirror all of the time, however you can also turn off the screen and use it as regular mirror while still recording. Hope this helps, Cheers!

    I got the g900 for the 2.5k back camera . However the biggest upgrades still lacking even in the g900 is a better screen (current display is just ok) as well as getting 60frames per second video (24 to 30 frames per second is choppy)These two are the biggest upgrades still lacking even from the g900. Lastly all manufacturers are still using outdated sensors for night vision which is a bummer as using better sensors can drastically improve night video. I wouldn’t mind even paying $500 for a better screen, better night Vision and 60 fps but there is no option in the market for that.

You do mention a bracket for angling the camera, I drive a Camaro where the rear window is at a low angle, since I'd expect to stitch the camera module to the window, I have a feeling the camera is going to be looking up to the sky more than straight back. The G850 has just been released so it's too early to know how long it will last (hopefully the same as G840H considering they are both Wolfbox) The G840H records at 125kbps while the G850 records at 39kbps (higher bit rate normally means more quality as the compression is not as heavy) The G840H records in MP4 while the G850 uses the TS format (you would want to check your device where you plan to download the videos to see which format it can playback) And finally the G840H has a direct mount kit available for it, the G850 can also be converted but currently there is no kit available, it requires the modification shown here th-cam.com/video/fveZiDofnxg/w-d-xo.html to get it to to be able to mount. Just installed one of these, and I'm a little dissapointed.
    2 issues:
    1. The rear camera is quite dark, which makes using it as a rear view mirror not ideal in certain light. Its very obvious if you run the two side by side.
    2. Even though I'm installing rear camera about 2ft from the ground on rear, its impossible to get a good view of both a rear view mirrow and a reversing camera. Even with it dropped down on reverse light, if I reverse to where an object is at the borrom of the camera i.e. red lines, if I get out it is approx 6ft away. If I angle it down, then I'm just pointed at the ground and can't use as a rear view camera.
    I suspect that there just isn't enough resolution to get both rear view and reversing from a fix camera. 15 degrees is not enough. Do you know of a similar rear view camera but with dual cameras, with it auto switching to the angled down one on reverse (or even better displaying both side by side)
    Thanks

      @@AlexAutoFun Thanks for the quick response. That looks a little out of my price range unfortunately.
      RE 1, I notice Wolfbox have changed the rear cameras over the last couple of years, to WDR. I believe that was to cope better with headlights. Is this possibly why the rear is so much darker than the front camera? Have you noticed this?
      RE 2, I'm contemplating getting another camera unit. Mounting one pointing behind for rear view use, and one pointing down for reverse parking. I would then set up some relays to switch between the two cameras using the reverse light feed.
      Couple of questions, just because of your experience. Do you know if any rear view camera will work with the wolfbox G850? Or would it have to be a wolfbox one?
      I'd possibly try using a high level brake light camera (its a van) instead of another wolfbox camera. The connectors are different, but presumably underneath the 4 cables are ultimately the same. I just wondered if you had tried mixing and matching cameras.

      @@Kevin-h9k2n You're welcome Kevin! Ah swapping components such as a different camera is sometimes possible BUT I don't recommend. Voiding warranty due to mixing components/brands is very possible and we also don't know the long term aspects (both operational and safety) of mixing components/brands. There is also the issue of which components will actually appear to work at first but fail later due to mixing since sometimes small differences between the products while looking the same from the outside are important (I had a viewer fry his new rear camera because the old wiring connections looked same as his prior rear dash cam) Cheers!

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@Kevin-h9k2n Hi Kevin! Ah normally what I seen described as darker or not as clear etc., it's a normal result on dash cams when comparing the rear camera to the front camera. Remember the front camera is directly embedded to the dash cam, so normally larger better sensors than the rear and also a direct connection to the dash cam for image processing (which results on better image quality) where the rear is normally a lesser sensor than the front and has to interface to the dash cam via an AHD (analog connection) cable. This inherently results in the front camera almost always exceeding the rear camera quality in terms of image. Cheers!

      Hi Hashreen! That is strange, normally mirror dash cams have the opposite effect of making things appear farther (due to the wide angle view they provide over normal mirrors). I would have the installer confirm that everything has been installed correctly (and that the correct components where installed, I seen cases where installers have mixed up components by accident). The other possibility but very small, is that there was an extremely rare version of the G850 that supported zoom in and zoom out, here is the video for it th-cam.com/video/-ij02UzQWO0/w-d-xo.html If you happen to be lucky enough to have scored a G850 V1 then you possibly have mirror zoom enabled bringing the image very close. Hi Big Bone Bhabon! I have not tested Wolfway dashcams, I'm not sure but I think you mean Wolfbox? If so I have only tested one Volway mirror dash cam where on Wolfbox I have tested several, so I think I need to test more Volway dashcams to be able to fairly compare them to Wolfbox dash cams. The Wolfbox brand has been out longer so my experience has been that their dash cams have proven to be reliable, Volway is a newer brand so we won't know how well their dash cams will last until we had them for some time and we get more feedback from buyers (same as with a new product, it takes time to build a reputation) Hope this helps, Cheers!

    About how many hours of video will fit on the SD card?

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Erik! The amount of time will be determined by the size of memory card you use, what resolution you run the dash cam at, what recording mode being used (standard or time lapse) and also by how many "locked" files are in the memory card (these are the video files the dashcam locks when it think it has detected an accident, those require manual deletion) So this amount can vary tremendously. Do you know why my back up camera is super zoomed in? When I have it on split screen it's fine. But when it's only only rear camera or I'm in reverse, the camera is zoomed in way too much. Thanks

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Andy! Remember the shape of the mirror is very wide, which means that the aspect ratio for video cannot fit inside of it without compressing it and distorting the image. This is the reason why mirror dash cam show a "cropped" view of the video, so the video can show without compression or distortion (and allowing you to slide up or down so you can select what part of the video you want to see). When you are in split view, since the screen is showing two videos in normal aspect ratio (close to a square) your are able to see in this view a complete overview of the image being captured. That being said, there was an extremely rare version of the G850 that supported zoom in and zoom out, here is the video for it th-cam.com/video/-ij02UzQWO0/w-d-xo.html However to this day only two people are confirmed to have it their possession (myself and another viewer) Hope this helps, Cheers!

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Fernando! No mine doesn't vibrate a lot (it has about the same vibration as my normal car mirror) However I seen what you are describing on other cars. It comes down to your car's harmonics and suspension. So I see vibrations vary quite a bit from vehicle to vehicle, some have really smooth idle and acceleration and some don't. Same with suspension (including tire setup) some cars are set for comfort and vibrations are minimal but some cars are tuned to be sportier and vibrations are more pronounced in the interior of the vehicle (specially in bumpy roads). You can try a direct mount conversion, sometimes that will help reduce the vibrations here is the video for that th-cam.com/video/TtjZ7rC_ncY/w-d-xo.html But remember the main source of those will still be the vehicle the dash cam is being used on. Then how many cameras does it need to have (1, 2 or 3). Now that you have narrowed your selections, consider how much you want to spend on one, that will narrow your choices even further. Then consider any special features you are looking for such as 360° video, Side Camera, Wi-Fi, Parking monitor without hardwire, cloud support, High Frame Rate. Finally you would want to compare video quality (I have several dashcam reviews on my channel under the playlist "dashcams" if you like to compare). I would say that if the priority is to record 24/7 then a stick dash cam will likely be better for you, mirror dash cams are limited on their parking monitoring features where stick dash cam have advanced more there. Cheers!

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi MyNicePC! unfortunately Wolfbox does not specify if it's running at 50Hz or 60Hz, however since the dash cam appears to be customized for use in North America and the lack of excessive flicker (which can happen when using a dash cam set to 50hz instead of 60Hz in North America) It leads me to believe it's likely set at 60hz. If you are in Europe I would recommend you look for one that can be switched to 50Hz otherwise you will experience flickering if using a dash cam that is locked at 60Hz. Hope this helps, Cheers!

    I love my g840h and was excited to get the 850 but I am rather disappointed in the fact it takes 10 seconds to start up. As someone who is constantly driving around in a vehicle without rear windows, waiting 10 seconds to reverse is a deal breaker. Also not sure why there is no option to change the reverse lines. I can move them in and out but I cant adjust the tops or bottoms of the lines which are super helpful in the 840. I already bought it though so I'm stuck with it. Hope they update the start time at least

    • @AlexAutoFun
      @AlexAutoFun  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi The Poi Mechanic! yep that sounds correct (you can see the boot time when I start the dash cam demo) and if you compare this to my G840H video here th-cam.com/video/qSRS6dXi85M/w-d-xo.html showing the start up process is just a fraction of what the G850 takes) Which goes to show that newer is not always better LOL I remember I had a gentleman get really upset at me when I said I really liked my G840h (he was asking about a dash cam recommendation) and proceeded to blast me saying how that dash cam was feature less and outdated, how could I said that LOL but I digress yeah hopefully they can bring that time down in their next firmware release. Hi The Poi Mechanic! Just wanted to say thank for bringing attention the start up time. The more I think about it, it make sense to time this (while it may not be a deal breaker for some, I think for me I like my dash cam to be ready as soon as possible) You can see the start up test with timer on my last two dash cams reviews and should be there going forward on this reviews, hopefully this bring attention to the start up time difference in dash cams.
