With the reveal of Luffy's Paramecia Gum-Gum Fruit the Gomu Gomu no Mi's real identity as the Zoan-Human Fruit the Hito Hito no Mi; Mythical Model: Nika, the series decided to make it easier that from Luffy's regular techniques to Gear 4th will officially still be classified as the Paramecia Gomu Gomu no Mi; but when Luffy activates his Awakening to Gear 5th Nika, that's when he's classified as a Mythical Zoan. And although I did think the new ending theme was ok, I am a bit sad that since One Piece will be bringing back ending theme songs to the anime, that means the episode-stories will be slightly short-ish now

His abilities gives him literally the “freedom” to do anything ! literally anything he touches turns into a rubber “Toonie” like substance ! The devilfruit gives you powers similar in style to the Sun God Nika, but it doesnt straight up make you the Sun God Nika, just like Sengokus fruit gives you abilities similar to Buddha, it doesnt Make you Buddha in the flesh. You're still a human, not a God, but your abilities are of same style, though nowhere close to the same power as the real thing. Joyboy is a title, last attributed to a person who lived during the void century, who also had the Nika fruit. If Joyboy was the persons name, it would not make sense for Luffy to be Joyboy, since the person Joyboy from 800 years ago is a different person, hence Joyboy is a title attributed to the person with the drums of liberation, the awakened state of this devilfruit.

Fun fact: during the party on Skypeia where the Straw Hats are dancing around the bonfire, Luffy’s silhouette looks incredibly similar to the Nika silhouette.
I loved this episode so much and the fact they got some of the people who animated loony toons to help out made it all the more exciting and amazing my face hurt from smiling so much

Finally my nika! Been waiting for your reaction! By the way Nika, the Sun God was an ancient warrior, a mythical God from the past and the fruit was based on him. Joyboy was the previous user of the fruit during the void century and then currently Luffy.
Michael he is joyboy he is doing his job and making us feel joy , we Manga readers explain this power as toon force, and luffy bounces back the blast breath with the ground by making group rubber and next episode is the one of best episode.

Luffy in fact did ricochet it back at Kaido. I am extremely happy with the results, and this was worth the very long wait🤩!!!! Gear 5th everyone we made it!!!
I don't know if anyone said it but Luffy gripped the blast breath with his feet after dodging it, extended outwards as it was moving fast, then twisted it around and had it redirect right back into Kaido's face for a full impact, these amazingly perfect Loony Tunes Animation shots are just so perfect and with Luffy's signature giggle it's masterful!
um i think he just lifted the ground up which made the ground fluid rubber and when the blast breath came in contact it also became rubber and so he threw it back at kaido using the ground to bounce it back. Using his legs doesn't make sense, like how??
“The most ridiculous power” not just the user, but everything around him as well. So he can change the physical properties for things and change it to silly stuff. Like what happened to kido’s blast breathe and what happened to kido’s eyes.
previous episodes it said that the power of the fruit gives people happiness .. and yeah all the people not only M A are feeling happy rn.. and I like how the animation coz the power of Luffy makes fantasy/dream into reality and mix it with fun
for me the best part of gear 5 is that it concentrates one of the foundations of one piece: being free to do anything crazy but still being fun and epic this form is extremely strong but deviates from the aggressive or more "badass" patterns of other anime. it's crazy and laid back at the same time as powerful. I can't stop laughing watching this!!!!
This was just the reveal episode just imagine what luffy will need to do to defeat kaido with his new awakening toon powers! The climax of wano has now hit us where it makes us smile 😁😁😁😁
The blast breath scene: He basically pulled up the ground and used it to catch it and throw it back at Kaido because he turned the ground into rubber :) The camera and cuts are a bit fast and wobbly there xD - Love this episode and your reaction !
I always love gear 5th! I think it would be hard to make the fight as good as Zoro vs King fight, however, gear 5th is so much fun to watch. Also, so far, the anime is making the fights far better than the fights in the manga. So I can't wait for next week episode. I might not like Wano as an arc, but a few things from that arc were absolutely epic.
@@rll1236 For me I don't think it is better than the episode where Zoro defeated King lol But I'm sure next week episode will be better. The animators did an excellent job with the anime. Because when I read the manga, I found the Zoro vs King a bit underwhelming and my favorite fight was actually Law and kidd vs Big mom. I also found the way fight Luffy vs Kaido ended a bit lame, but I'm sure the anime will make it far better than the manga.

Weiling Zhang did the blast breath and luffy animation 11:06 it was his first time working on one piece,hes legend in anime industry And Vincent chansard did the gear 5 "introduction" 12:26 And Nagamine was director of this episode (there are alot more animators just wanted to shout out these 2 legends)
If you go back to skypea, there is a scene in the flashback where one of the residents is going to be sacrificed to the “sun god” and that she was thankful. We also see Luffy do the same Nika pose on the moon during the bond fire scene. Actually, even the skypea ruins and background statues imply the existence of Nika as a deity. It’s implied that Joyboy had the Nika fruit, and was not Nika himself!
Toei didn't show the preview because the episode's got an ED now so they trimmed the OP! What a crazy episode though! I loved it! lmao BTW. the image of Nika can see back in Skypiea when Luffy dances around the fire with the wolves and Sun God is even mentioned in Noland flashback! The foreshadowing is crazy in OP! :D
Oda himself stated that he modelled the fight after Tom and Jerry and with luffys awakening powers he really managed to pull of an incredible powerup that goes against a lot of animes where the MCs power gets more n more serious/badass where luffys power is all about having fun and being free in the way he fights. It's truly a power which fits luffys character so well and we all love it
It was an incredible episode. Even though I’m not caught up to yet in terms of where I am in the series, I wanted to see this anyway since it’s probably the most anticipated moment in the whole series. It’s honestly the most anticipated transformation in anime I’ve ever had and the anime did an absolutely perfect job bringing it to life. Animated was really the only way this could be done right since we get to see Luffy’s silly and insane Loony Tunes physics in action and it was amazing and everything in it should explain why One Piece is one of the most amazing pieces of fiction ever created. The power pretty much encompasses everything that makes Luffy who he is and this moment deserves to be up there with Goku attaining Ultra Instinct in regards to things that crashed the internet. I’m also so happy that this is maybe Luffy’s strongest transformation because I’m extremely excited for this to eventually get a Banpresto figure so I can get it. I would love if Naruto’s Baryon form got a figure like this too so I could have that, Gear 5 Luffy and Ultra Instinct Goku together. I already have Gear 4 Luffy and Sage Of Six Paths Naruto with Ultra Instinct Goku since they were their most powerful transformations at the time, but now they’ve gotten more powerful forms so it would be great to get them and have the three of them together as my three favourite anime protagonists and characters ever. Anyway, I’m very excited for more Gear 5 Luffy animated and I’m even more excited for the English dub to catch up to it and see what it looks like and getting to that point in my actual watch through will be an amazing anime experience I’d never forget.
So about the part with the blast breath, Luffy indeed straight ripped a chunk of the ground up and rubberized it so he could fling it back at Kaido. Luffy out here playing tennis 😂 Edit; I think what’s incredibly glossed over is that Luffy ripped a chunk of the ground up in his base Gear 5 form....he only went muscle mode to fling the blast breath back because of the kinetic force it had 🤯 Gear 5 essentially gives Luffy stupid strength like Hercules

"Ole Christian Token" a former associate of Warner Bros was involved in the making of Luffy Gear 5 episodes, that's why we get the Loony Tunes effects from this episode. Just a slight touch of Warner Bros Toons effects we get to experience a whole new One Piece, different from all previous 1070 episodes. But still dope as hell...😍

The ending theme replaces the re-caps at the start of the episodes. So it is still the same length of episodes.

joyboy and nika are two different people. Nika came before joyboy so the fruit got named after him, then the government changed it´s name to gum-gum

The devilfruit gives you powers similar in style to the Sun God Nika, but it doesnt straight up make you the Sun God Nika, just like Sengokus fruit gives you abilities similar to Buddha, it doesnt Make you Buddha in the flesh. You're still a human, not a God, but your abilities are of same style, though nowhere close to the same power as the real thing.
Joyboy is a title, last attributed to a person who lived during the void century, who also had the Nika fruit. If Joyboy was the persons name, it would not make sense for Luffy to be Joyboy, since the person Joyboy from 800 years ago is a different person, hence Joyboy is a title attributed to the person with the drums of liberation, the awakened state of this devilfruit.

I don't know if anyone said it but Luffy gripped the blast breath with his feet after dodging it, extended outwards as it was moving fast, then twisted it around and had it redirect right back into Kaido's face for a full impact, these amazingly perfect Loony Tunes Animation shots are just so perfect and with Luffy's signature giggle it's masterful!
um i think he just lifted the ground up which made the ground fluid rubber and when the blast breath came in contact it also became rubber and so he threw it back at kaido using the ground to bounce it back. Using his legs doesn't make sense, like how??

for me the best part of gear 5 is that it concentrates one of the foundations of one piece: being free to do anything crazy but still being fun and epic this form is extremely strong but deviates from the aggressive or more "badass" patterns of other anime. it's crazy and laid back at the same time as powerful.

I always love gear 5th! I think it would be hard to make the fight as good as Zoro vs King fight, however, gear 5th is so much fun to watch. Also, so far, the anime is making the fights far better than the fights in the manga. So I can't wait for next week episode. I might not like Wano as an arc, but a few things from that arc were absolutely epic.

Because when I read the manga, I found the Zoro vs King a bit underwhelming and my favorite fight was actually Law and kidd vs Big mom. I also found the way fight Luffy vs Kaido ended a bit lame, but I'm sure the anime will make it far better than the manga.

If you go back to skypea, there is a scene in the flashback where one of the residents is going to be sacrificed to the “sun god” and that she was thankful. We also see Luffy do the same Nika pose on the moon during the bond fire scene. Actually, even the skypea ruins and background statues imply the existence of Nika as a deity. It’s implied that Joyboy had the Nika fruit, and was not Nika himself!
Toei didn't show the preview because the episode's got an ED now so they trimmed the OP! What a crazy episode though! I loved it! lmao BTW. the image of Nika can see back in Skypiea when Luffy dances around the fire with the wolves and Sun God is even mentioned in Noland flashback! The foreshadowing is crazy in OP! :D
Oda himself stated that he modelled the fight after Tom and Jerry and with luffys awakening powers he really managed to pull of an incredible powerup that goes against a lot of animes where the MCs power gets more n more serious/badass where luffys power is all about having fun and being free in the way he fights. It's truly a power which fits luffys character so well and we all love it
It was an incredible episode. Even though I’m not caught up to yet in terms of where I am in the series, I wanted to see this anyway since it’s probably the most anticipated moment in the whole series. It’s honestly the most anticipated transformation in anime I’ve ever had and the anime did an absolutely perfect job bringing it to life. Animated was really the only way this could be done right since we get to see Luffy’s silly and insane Loony Tunes physics in action and it was amazing and everything in it should explain why One Piece is one of the most amazing pieces of fiction ever created. The power pretty much encompasses everything that makes Luffy who he is and this moment deserves to be up there with Goku attaining Ultra Instinct in regards to things that crashed the internet. I’m also so happy that this is maybe Luffy’s strongest transformation because I’m extremely excited for this to eventually get a Banpresto figure so I can get it. I would love if Naruto’s Baryon form got a figure like this too so I could have that, Gear 5 Luffy and Ultra Instinct Goku together. I already have Gear 4 Luffy and Sage Of Six Paths Naruto with Ultra Instinct Goku since they were their most powerful transformations at the time, but now they’ve gotten more powerful forms so it would be great to get them and have the three of them together as my three favourite anime protagonists and characters ever. Anyway, I’m very excited for more Gear 5 Luffy animated and I’m even more excited for the English dub to catch up to it and see what it looks like and getting to that point in my actual watch through will be an amazing anime experience I’d never forget.
