    I want that Atomic Purple! No, but seriously, I do really want that Atomic Purple shell replacement. Glad to see it wasn't too much of a hassle for you to do the switch out, sorry about the speaker though!

      No worries! I’m actually sending it in for repair. I tried replacing the speakers with ifixit.com but it still isn’t working properly so I’m sending it in to a service center with valve.
      But thank you for watching and participating in the giveaway!

      Atomic purple is amazing trust, took me 4 1/2 - 5 hours myself. No regret only hiccup I had was I forgot to plug in a ribbon cable, which left me without the left side imputs. Solved with taking thr back off and plugging it in and boom! It was fine

    I just did this! My screen was broken so I decided to go all out and replace the shell, buttons, and put in a new screen all at once. It took me like 7 hours but I'm so excited! I definitely recommend playing their video on a big TV so you can actually see what they're doing 😅

    Honestly I am about to do this shell swap. Putting off the SSD/hall effect joysticks until I have more cash.
    The entire reason I'm doing the shell swap is because SakuraRetroModding is now selling Playstation icon buttons on their Etsy store and I want it to copy the "Crystal Blue" DS2/DS3 look so I'm also getting the clear blue shell for my Deck. Figured since my Deck is going to be opened for the first time, might as well pack it all in on the first go around. SSD/joysticks are relatively simple to upgrade, so I can do them later if I want but I still have no issue with drift on my joysticks and my SSD still has a little bit of space since I have the 512GB.
    Since the screen is needing to be removed anyway, I'm also taking the opportunity to upgrade the screen to the DeckHD which is 87% color accurate (original is 64%) and is now 1920x1200 (versus 1280x800) so it will be a nice upgrade. It removes the need for me to bother scraping the adhesive from the original display and I can basically just drop the kit in since my Deck will be disassembled anyway. I just hate that they didn't increase the refresh rate with the DeckHD mod. I would really have loved to have had a 120Hz+ display that's 800p over a display that's 1200p with the same 60Hz as the original. Either way, I mostly bought it to have a brand new display, brand new shell, brand new buttons. My Deck will look brand new again.
    I didn't even realize that the buttons were sold separately. Kind of dumb, I think but that's how they wanted to do it. I planned on keeping my original buttons anyway and didn't learn until today that the back paddle buttons were riveted/plastic welded into the Deck shell. Others online have drilled them out with a 1/8 drillbit, so that will probably be the route I go as well, which will sadly destroy my original shell.
    It sucks because I have the 512GB model with the anti-glare display and it will be sitting in a box afterwards. I don't think the Deck will be too hard to disassemble, though and I have no issue with delicate cables, etc, just remembering the order/lengths of screws and the order that the ribbons/boards go back into the Deck in. I'm looking forward to it, but it is going to be a pain. The finished product will be nice, though. The extra resolution will be nice in desktop mode and when I'm streaming my desktop via Moonlight.
    I appreciate the video, though! I've watched a few guides and yours also offered a unique perspective. I've found tiny bits of information from each one that I've watched and the common mistake I've seen is people leaving the ribbon cables/battery cable loose/unplugged because they're a bit tiny and finicky. Hoping mine goes smoothly the first time. I should be completely free the day I do it and should have plenty of time to get it done patiently.

      Wow! Thank you so much for watch, and for leaving such a detailed comment! What love about the Steam Deck community is that we are passionate about gaming, but also passionate about our devices. The Steam Deck Is such a rad device and I love how we can customize ever bit of it. I think you e got some AWESOME plans and I can’t wait to hear how it goes for you!!

    My recommendation while disassembling the deck, don’t try to remove the screen yourself. Take it to an iPhone repair shop and have them remove it for you. It’ll cost like $20 or something but totally worth it (that’s what I did). Everything else is pretty straight forward.

  • @TheScripflipNetwork
    @TheScripflipNetwork 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Seems like a nightmare. I did a swap on my joycons which was like 4 hours for both. I've changed out the SSD before on this and would rather not do that again. Beautiful blue though.

    • @TLDAcademy
      @TLDAcademy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks man! Honestly, it was tough, and because I nicked the speak cord, it was just a struggle now having a deck with broken speakers.
      I probably would do it again because it taught a lot about the system itself and all the components. I appreciate the watch!

      @@TLDAcademy I wanted to do this for my wife in white but I've come to the conclusion that; if we break the screen and are outside of warranty, I'll do the shell and button mods. Since the screen bit is such a typical issue with replacing the shell, id rather just do everything together in one shot... Possibly a fatter SSD. Anyhow, I love tinkering like this and it's greatly rewarding to do this type of project because most people are so clueless about how to execute the steps. It makes you feel very accomplished when you get through with these tech fixes and mods.

    • @TLDAcademy
      @TLDAcademy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yea, that's totally understandable. As I mentioned in the video, the experience of taking it a part definitely provides a new understanding of the machine itself that you might find very enlightening - I would also contend that the screen process might not be as bad as you think. The new shell has been amazing and you'll appreciate it for a long time.
      Regardless, thank you so much for watching, and for your feedback!

    For me the screen wasn't the hardest part..replacing the touchpad covers was the hardest part. You REALLY have to get them heated up and then get your spudger tool under the lip and work the snot out of it to get it off. Took probably 3-4 tries each one.
