Tackle Organization: How We Store Our Gear - New Ideas!

- Its time for serious tackle organization! We've all been hit by this unexpected quarantine and we chose to make the best of it. Tim spent a few days dialing in his gear and he's finally got it perfected. Want to get the maximum number of crankbaits in a small box? Want to mix senkos with hooks while avoiding any concerns of rust? Tired of your different hooks mixing together every time you run in rough water? This is for you!
Tim started playing with the Edge boxes when they first came out but it wasn't until the quarantine that he really jumped in. The Edge Terminal box offered storage solutions unlike anything else. By individually compartmentalizing all his small hooks he has avoided the never-ending struggle of hooks mixing together. The box itself resists rust and was a no-brainer with all the free time to organize hooks. From there he began finding niches for all of his tackle storage needs.
Below is a breakdown of some of Tim's favorite boxes for different techniques. The links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions. If you've been considering upgrading your tackle organization, we're very happy with these boxes so far.

Thanks for the Information & Video.
I downsized my tackle.
Everything I owned, was lost in a house fire.
Today I have 6 Rods, 1 Large Tackle Box. I only buy lures that Truely Catch Fish. I'm Thankful for what I have Today.
Staying Simple is BEST.
,
Tim- I am glad I am not the only nutball out using all this free time to organize rods, reels and tackle ! I love the gasket sealed boxes for waterproofing. Will check into the Edge system for organizing tackle that I might want to grab one compartment instead of the whole darn box! Thanks. Next time I see you guys fishing my docks I'll invite you up for the "nickel tour" of my organized shed. I can find stuff in no time !! What a concept?!
I'd love to see a new kayak tackle video. How do you take this system now and get ready for a day of kayak fishing?
Tyler Peters please do this TacticalBassin
Did they ever make a kayak tackle video? Definitely what I’m looking for.
@@kevinpayne2903 nothing specific. But I imagine something is in the works now that it seems like they have settled into their new place and are exploring the area more.
Please let me know when you plan to have your next garage sale! Ha! I recently set up a little fishing room in my basement. I like to be organized too. Thanks for all your tips and fishing education you two do.
Wind chimes should be the least of your worries. These guys (tacticalbassin) are the absolute best in the game. Tim and Matt, thanks for all that y’all do. Bringing bass fishing to a whole new level. Never stop doing what y’all are doing. Would be a dream to have a day out on the water with you guys. Thanks again!
Huge fan of the terminal trays. I have 2 and move parts back and forth based on what I am doing that day. Great for multispecies anglers. Fishing mostly from a kayak you cannot take everything with you either.
Am I the only one who’s just simply happy to see it all sorted out 😂😂
You’re deck looks good Tim! You can tell you had it redone and maximized you’re room! From the railing to the patio furniture, looks great! 💪🏾
And All those boxes on the table cost as much as a brand new 17 foot bass tracker
Right?? I was all about it until I saw they were 50 bucks per box. That's a bit insane, but I'm not fishing for a living either...
I love the bonus videos it's always a nice surprise! I'ma always checking the channel every day for the bonus videos thanks. #tacticalbassin is my number one favorite TH-cam channel!!!
With the OG Plano boxes we all have had them warp with having certain plastics in them..definitely gives up an update on that senko box and see if it does the same #fishinggoals
Liked it OCD like me lol. Please make a glass and brass video. Old school tips and tricks Brass and glass, Splitshot, California rig. Etc.. Love bonus time!
Good information! Actually great information for me. I can see reducing my 12 or so Plano boxes that I usually take on my kayak for a tournament down to maybe 6 or 8 maximum. And they might all fit in my crate rather than some in the crate some in the tank well some under my seat and a couple more in my hatch. I know I take way too much on my kayak but when I want something I want something! I guess I have big boat mentality but only fish out of a kayak! LOL! Some of the things that you did like putting all your various and Sundry weights into one box is a great idea and then I only need to take a few out with me instead of my whole collection. Only take out tackle specific weights that I'm going to use that day in other words! That is going to save me a lot of time. Thank you thank you thank you for this video!
I really wish y'all would do another giant spotted bass video we haven't seen one of those in a while
I use a pelican 1610 case (okay.... harbor freight ripoff version, don't judge). I pulled all the foam, put a lid organizer and put all my gear in those cheap plano cases, lined up and labeled. I do mostly bank, surf, pier and jetty fishing. Sure the pelican case is big and heavy, but it has wheels, I got all my gear and it doubles as a seat.
I'm definitely going to have to look into those edge cases. Those are awesome.
Thanks for sharing, I'm going to get a couple of the Thin Boxes. That wil double my storage space.
Hey from KY! Could you maybe do a video of the actual terminal tackle? As in, what you always need to have on hand.... hooks, weights, everything. (For Bass) Thx!
Thanks for the tips. The best tackle box I ever owned was actually intended to hold power tool attachments. lol! Made by milwaukee called the low profile organizer packout. Its the size of an Attache case. It has one clear side super sturdy and water tight. Holds everything you need for the day, other than large swimbaits. At the end of the day replenish or change up for what you may be fishing for next.
The Plano edge jig boxes are where it's at, I'm surprised you're not using them, I love being able to see all 70 jigs in one box and see the head shapes and colors laid out
Hey Tim, nice surprise with a bonus Tues video! That one Plano box with the 36 tactical Bassin Cranks, Would have to be most expensive 3700 filled box I’ve seen.
Thanks Tim, great tips! I have a smaller boat so I even use baby pins to use for split rings, spinners for swimbaits , rubber bands for senko and even swivels. It helps me get even more terminal tackle in these boxes.
Yep, it's a sickness! I don't fish as much as you, so I'm a "leave the plastics in mfg packaging" kind of guy. Gotta get one of those terminal tackle boxes.
Do you have a video on the different uses of split rings and treble hooks?
Just saw this video and these new edge boxes look great, I have been thinking of getting the terminal box to better organize my split rings and other miscellaneous stuff like this. I have some of the plano 3700 boxes (thin) with the angled dividers and these are incredible! One trick that I have learned when separating these dividers is that I use needle nose pliers and put these right on the edge of the little plastic divider and just twist. These dividers will snap right off. Thanks for sharing your video with us!
I have a show suggestion. As a fisherman that fishes with spinning gear and primarily fishes for smallmouth with an occasional largemouth mixed in, could you do a show on how to fish for largemouth using spinning gear.
I just got back from Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia where the main fish is largemouth and striper and had very difficult time catching anything over 4 days. I appreciate all you do.
When storing chatterbaits and swim jigs do you always remove the trailers when you put put the bait back into boxes or leave them on?
Jake Nilles I like to take mine off, unless I’m keeping it tied on for the next day. Trailers like to get kinks and bends in them if you leave them stored for extended periods of time. Hope this helps
We have always wanted to try the Plano Edge boxes we may look into those. If we do we will do a review on our channel to. Thanks for sharing
I own a few. The terminal are pretty good. Don't like that you can't buy the little compartments separate but they keep little hooks and such well organized. The standards are good. Love the spinnerbait/buzzbait box (although buzzbaits don't fit too well) I love love love the jig box! Haven't tried the crank ones.
snaves4 icast 2020 they will allow individual purchase of these little boxes
i love it! thanks! i personally struggle tackle organization-especially with hooks. these boxes are my kinda box
Thanks for the tips; I was bored yesterday, I ran to Academy Sports and purchased two awesome and inexpensive H2O Terminal Boxes; and cracked a few beers and got organized. So much forgotten Terminal tackle in my large tackle box that will be put into good use now because I know it's there now. I went from a large Plano Tackle Box to two terminal tackle boxes; I am very pleased .. If you haven't checked out the H2O Terminal Tackle Box, man, you have too; at $15 you just can't beat it..
Can I order some of those small boxes separately?
I've been waiting for a video like this for sometime thank you
On the regular boxes instead of cutting the dividers, I use hemostats and just twist, clean break everything much easier
Can you buy the little divider boxes that are in the terminal tackle boxes? The normal boxes you buy don't come with that many options that you were showing. I'd love to get some more of those smaller trays for those boxes
Please keep supporting made in the US products, the new Edge boxes are made in China. Most other Plano boxes are still made in the US. 👍
Good point!
Edge boxes are out of my budget...the China source ends that thought!
Check out the crank / jerk bait box too! Looks like it could be nice and save slot of time untangling hooks. But glad you made this video because I was gonna order some and now I can use your link
What made you decide to go with the regular 3700 style box for the Jackhammers vs their Bladed Jig Box.
Great vid mate. Useful fishin info. Keep it up. 😎🎣
I'm loving those new edge tackle boxes, but those sucker's are HEAVY.
Best tackle boxes I have ever purchased though. Extremelu durable, not cheap feeling at all.
What they need to do now, is sell some of their components separately. For example, those terminal tackle mini containers etc.
You guys should do a video with the Flex. Maybe technique specific box or a seasonal type box. I remember Matt doing a video a few years back about a fall season tackle
Box. Seeing you guys get creative with the flex would be awesome.
I've been pretty impressed with the Edge boxes. I started with the jig box, then got a 3700, and then a couple 3600 boxes for my blackmoon backpack. I just ordered a few more this past week and go a couple terminal boxes and 3700 thin boxes. I'll eventually swap out other boxes for these as well. For those curious (because I couldn't find an answer online) the terminal and 3700 thin boxes are the same exact dimensions, and the terminal compartments and dividers are interchangeable between the two. Makes it a little more affordable, and opens up the customization if you want to mix and match the dividers and compartments rather than buying multiple terminal boxes. The terminal box only comes with 4 regular dividers and one water wick dividers, due to the individual compartments (also some of them have little dividers inside them!). The 3700 thin box comes with 36 dividers + a water wick divider.
Tim, can you buy extra little boxes to go inside your terminal tackle box? It looks like you had more of those clear topped compartments that go inside the box than they sell that box with? Mine came with the tungsten weight compartment for the top row, and those have solid covers, and my preference would be to have more of the clear topped compartments to store hooks in as I have a different box I store my weights in. Any feedback/direction on buying more of the clear topped compartments that go inside the edge pro box would be very helpful and much appreciated.
No not yet unfortunately. I got a couple of the terminals and mixed and matched those compartments into the regular 3700 Edge boxes. Hopefully they will eventually sell the little compartments separately.
@@tacticalbassin thank you.
Looks great. Love being organized. Are you using a Sharpe to label everything on the inside and outside of the boxes?
Yes sir 👍
I can't believe you aren't using the Jig box. It's one of the best new Edge boxes they make!
I have several of these too, they are heavy as heck.
Hey Tim, what do you think is the best way to store Huddlestons?
Eye surrender bait wrap
Awesome video.
Great idea
Thank you! 😊
Holy crap Tim, is that ur back deck?!
Yes we finally got it redone after the flood destroyed it two years ago.
@@tacticalbassin looks awesome man!
Those boxes for terminal tackle look great , the bass mafia ones look good as well . Would be nice if they made them in the 3600 size , my tackle bag doesn’t hold 3700’s.
I use the icebox bass mafia which is 3600 size
How do you store your Keitchs? Bulky clam shell packing has always been a pain for organizing
1) It looked like you mixed the Zman ned worms with the Robo worm ned worms in the same box, maybe I'm wrong. But if u did will they be okay in these boxes cause I know everyone says not to mix Zman with other worms.
2) On the Plano terminal tackle box, how did you get the large yellow Plano Edge decal off the top of the clear cover so I can see whats in the box?
Correct dont mix the zman plastics with others they will melt together. As far as the sticker it's just a decal open the box and it peels off easily from the inside. I've got 3 edge boxes so far and plan to get more! They are awesome.
@@jaylee6936 Thx for the info. I'll find a razor blade etc to lift up my decal because its stuck on there good.
That’s A LOT of money on the table! The organization looks amazing though. I dream one day I’ll be able to do that haha
When making technique specific boxes like whacky rigs does the salt from bait rust hooks in same box or good with rust inhibitors
Inhibitors definitely help but we're very careful to keep them at opposite ends of the box whenever possible.
Ive been looking at these. I'm wanting to do a drop shot box. Can you share what you have in your drop shot box.
those plano boxes with the removable dividers suck for smaller hooks and split shots, seems no matter what they get mixed up
Again a great video, one question. What do you guys use to properly store your spinner baits?
We like this one bit.ly/397m4Bd
@@tacticalbassin Nice Thx
I've been thinking about buying their Edge jig/chatterbait box, but kind of like how you have your finnese jigs setup and might just do that instead with everything.
The Edge boxes are worth the price. I was worried about the lid falling off my hooks and weights box because of the weight, but there is no worry with the weights in the Edge box. The lid is very secure. Although, I am skeptical of the silica gel. At some point they will become saturated with moisture and need dried out with heat.
The custom divider boxes are also excellent (I prefer the skinny ones).
The water wick dividers have silica gel packets inside them. Plano provides instructions on opening the dividers and tossing em in the oven at 250* for an hour to dry them out and recharge them.
@@nebassaddict Thanks!
Are you able to buy the extra compartments for the insides of the edge boxes?
Amazing storage, that must of taken a lot of time but worth the investment ❤️👍👍
Had a flashback to Matt's OLD organization video... Two ends of the quarantine spectrum.
Can you remove the divider on the medium size hook retainer insert? I noticed the small and large ones don’t have a divider but the medium size has a divider in the middle.
I need some shelf type units to store my 743 3700 boxes. Can you recommend any system? Once the terminal tackle boxes are done, I will need to store jerk/spinner baits. That will be about 900 3700 boxes. I have finished cataloguing the contents of each box, all separately labelled and marked for specific target fish. Thanks for any suggestion.
Excellent video. One question will the soft plastics ruin your box due to the salt.
Do the small boxes from the terminal tackle box fit inside the deep box?
But how do you set up for fishing as a back seater ?
I was hoping you would have a good solution for storing keitechs. I haven’t found one I love yet
Have you tried the jig box? I'm curious about that one.
these boxes are dope!
Where did you get all of the extra lift out boxes? I can't find those anywhere.
I want to know this too! Is there a way to order more of the inserts for the terminal box?
Hey Tim. You mentioned chatterbaits and Keitechs. Do you store your baits with the trailers still on them lets say if the trailer is still good? Or do you take the trailers off even if it ruins it after every fishing trip when storing your baits?
Might be working in Chico restoring an old church in a few months. How can I come fish with you guys? Cost???? I've learned so much from your videos.
so to customize the boxes you have to buy the whole box at 42.00 and move the individual containers around correct
\
does it mater how you organize the tackle because i put all fishing plastics and wights together ?
Watched you tackle box video - all of those Plano Edge boxes come with specific interior boxes. Is there any way to get more of the individual interior boxes so you can customize you boxes like you did in the video? WK
The problem with a huge collection of tackle is most days you use so little of the inventory you stuff in your boat. So you end up carrying a hundred pounds of tackle that you never even think of using. I think those boxes are super but they sure are pricey. The same goes for rods and reels as well most days too. You always take more than you will use most always. The answer is you have to reduce the load not increase the load. The first Bassmaster tournaments the competitors were only permitted a ten pound tackle box and five rods. How’s that rock your World? However, they caught huge limits and won tournaments. Not to say you have to go to that extreme, but it makes sense that less is often better than more. You can only use so much stuff in a day of fishing and carrying everything seems redundant. If your boat has 50 pounds of soft plastics in it; Houston we have a problem. There is nothing wrong knowing how to use hundreds of different lures to catch fish. But, you sure don’t need to have every single one in your boat. If I see a guy in a bass derby with a couple rods on the deck that is the one I worry about; not the idiot with twenty rods on the deck.
Thanks again, Tim. Always great ideas! Are the Edge thins with the "mini boxes" new? Bought some Edges over winter. Really like them so far. Like you I couldn't see replacing all my old 3700 so my Edge boxes stay in the boat, and the old non-waterproof are used for home storage. When seasons change, I just swap out stuff.
Yes they are. The small compartments only come in the Edge Terminal box. I got a couple of the terminal boxes and mixed and matched the small compartments with the normal 3700 Edge boxes.
@@tacticalbassin I was wondering about that. It would be awesome if they sold the small compartments separately as well.
Thanks for this informative video. One question though is do you think the soft plastics will eventually warp the box? I started buying these edge boxes but have only used it for hard baits and terminal.
I want to label the terminal slots like you did. With marker.
I’m worried about it being permanent. What if I want to change it? Did you use a grease pen or something? Or sharpie?
Invest in a label maker and get the plastic label cartridges, not the paper ones.
What’s the best was to store bass jigs?
Down where I live oin the south we are already out of postspawn, so can you do a video of how to catch fish right after postspawn and early summer.
The terminal box only comes in 3700 Thin, can you put those small compartments in a regular 3700?
That was about $10k worth of tackle haha, I want to go Plano also, but I am waiting for the end of the year when they release new products, specially the one you can 100% design dividers by yourself. it was shown in TW ICAST live.
Will you be leaving your plastic baits in the box or back to their individual bags? And what did you put inside the 3700 slim? I bought this one and not really sure what to use it for
Only 2 minutes in but I wish plano would sell the individual terminal compartments separate. Hate that you gotta buy 5 boxes ($200) just to get all the compartments you want! I'd buy dozens of those compartments separate.
Yeah hopefully they end up selling the individual compartments.
Do you have any issues with putting the plastics in the cases like that? In the past when i use to do that the colors would leak/melt out or the salt in some would cause an issue.
Would love to use those boxes...cant afford $40+ for one @%#$ box!
Any idea if the Edge compartments can hold Elaztech plastics?
Have you every tried swirly tail grins on an A-rig. I ran out of paddle tails and refuse to buy new ones.
They work for me, definitely cheaper too, 25 for $3.99
tough for a Kayak but great system
Brian Latimer (B-Lat ) has kayak videos were he uses edge boxes on his kayak check them out
Use these on my yak, so much easier than standard boxes, give them a try and you will see why.
Lakes are open in Oklahoma!!
Is there a tiny gap between the lid and the dividers, I want to put tiny hooks in there and don’t want them to get between any gap and go to a different area.
Zero gap, they snap shut. This is your box 👍
Bonus!
If only Plano or any other company would make specialty boxes in the 3600 size. You'd think with the growing kayak fishing community who mainly use 3600's and the number of people who've switched from regular fishing bags to backpacks that carry the same size boxes that one of these companies would be on top of this already. I'd love the Edge jig box and a few others if they'd fit in my milk crate or backpack.
Do you have any strategies to keep your jigs good long term? Mine seem to have some dry rot issues (band/skirt rotting off, or getting very weak). Because of that just been buying jigs as I need them and avoid stocking up. Thought about just getting jigs that are hand tied to avoid the issue.
I stopped buying jigs that aren’t hand tied.. also I prefer the thin rubber skirts .. the come in bags from the factory.. I keep them in the bags and put the bags in a bait folder.. I can separate the jigs by colors and sizes .. I never have chipped heads or any issues with skirts . Also keeping your jigs in factory bags gives you all info from factory size / weight/ color
Hove you removed all of you soft plastic stuff from the bags they came in?
Careful. Won't them Senkos will melt those hooks?
I really like these new Plano edge boxes. But Beware Tim I have a 3700 thin box that I actually use for my terminal tackle. But mine isn't 💯 water tight. I checked the gasket and it seems fine. Either way the anti rust should prevent anything if water did get in one of them.
Curious on an update. Did the worms distort the plastic in any way? My plastic worms distorted my Plano waterproof boxes with the red gasket
nice. TW not shipping. have to look elsewhere for tackle.
