When I go to the link for the chiller, the specs say it only goes to 68 degrees? Is this the correct one?
That’s the correct one. I’m not sure the reason they have that temp listed on the website, it might be recommend not to go lower. You can set it all the way down to 32° and I have personally had it down to 35° but normally keep it around 40°
@@DanielPlunges thank you for the response. Buying it with your link!
Hello Daniel, thanks for a detailed setup video. I want to purchase the chiller you recommend, but noticed in their manual that it chills water from 68℉-79℉, but you seem to have no issues getting it down to 35°F. Are their specs incorrect, or does any other piece of equipment you used helps in getting the temps down to the desired 35°?
Thanks in advance
Your welcome! The chiller is made for fish tanks so that’s what they designed the instructions for I assume. The chiller does come with 1/2 tubbing and a small pump, that could be the reason they don’t think it will go lower, with the bigger pump and tubbing I use, it can chill the water much lower.
@@DanielPlunges awesome, thanks!!
@bliz1000 no problem, I’m glad I could help.
Lowe’s is woke bro!
Aren’t all the big box stores?
Pretty sure your chiller will overheat (especially in the summer) without proper ventilation and air flow inside that box. I have 2 vents in my enclosure, the air "inlet" uses an HVAC filter and the "outlet" has a fan that runs continuously to pull air through the enclosure. Also, once you add the venturi, you'll probably notice that the 400gph pump is insufficient. I'm using a 900pgh pump and I still wish I'd gone with the 1200gph one. It moves the water, but doesn't "jet" the water by the time it gets back to the tub. Good start though!
Thanks for the advice, I have been using it with the lid open, I will be adding a vent and fan similar to yours here soon. I have not had an issue with water flow after installing the ozone Venturi, I have had it for a couple weeks now and it works good.
Hi, what do you mean by "jet"- you want an effect like a hot tub massaging, or to intensify the cold effect? Thanks
@@johnclements5535 Not for massaging. The water around your skin will normalize and stop "feeling" cold if the water is not circulating strongly in the tub. When the water is not strong enough coming out of the nozzle, there is little circulation.
@@hitmanjls30 ok , yeah, that's why I tend to move around , using my hands to move the water about.
What is your water chiller ? Can we have a link plz ?
Does the "chiller" provide additional heat in cold weather climate? I would like to build something for outside, and it gets below freezing every night from November to April
This one does not. My Revx wellness one does how ever have a heating option that will heat the water when the temp is freezing you can check out my video of the setup on this channel. Use discount code DANIELPLUNGES if you want to get it.
Hey Daniel, thanks for the video. I just purchased the same tub from tractor supply and am very interested in doing the same thing or similar as you. The only question I have is temps. What is the coldest temperature you've achieved consistently with the chiller you used here?
That’s awesome! I’m glad the video was useful
I’ve had it maintain 35-40 with the outside temps in the 80s.
@@DanielPlunges Holy Moly! I didn't think you'd be able to get it that cold especially in the 80s! This is awesome! Thank you!
Hello everyone just an update, after using a lot of these ideas and parts recommended here; I recommend a couple things: opt for a better quality pump, I used the one recommended here at first.. It gets noisy at times, and the impeller housing cover twists off easy, just a simple bayonet lock using oring friction to keep it in place; a little twist or tension on the tubing can cause it to come loose. I ended up getting a Danner brand 500 GPH pump used for ponds; it is solidly built and bolted together; by most reviews they last for years. A few more bucks but worth it. It has about the same level of noise as the aquarium pump, and the flowrate is a little more; it seemed to cool down my Ice Barrel a bit faster because of it. And I would suggest getting sealant for the plastic NPT threads; teflon tape is technically just a lubricant designed for metal pipe threads. I used Rectorseal True Blue and it works great. An optional thing I did as well, because as an engineer I was anticipating maintenance or disassembly in the future, was to add camlock fittings to the ports on the chiller; these are disconnects such that I can pull the chiller out of the assembly easily.
Thanks for the update dude, I will be doing a new diy video here soon using my new Frozin 400 tub, I will be using a danner pump on this video.
Grateful 🙏🏽
The link for the bulk head is to 2 Pack 1/2" Female NPT and 3/4" Male GHT is that right?
Yes, that is correct.
Can you link exactly what you used please. I ordered everything on your list but the parts are not fitting together. Especially the bulkhead. The 3/4 barb with 3/4 npt attaches to the bulkhead correct?? Mine are not matching and will not thread together and they are 3/4. Also, what size are you using with the pump? 1/2 and 3/4th?. Ive been to the home depot three times trying to match these up. Ive been in the PEX section. Maybe that's where I am going wrong. Thanks for the help
No for the bulk head you should use the 3/4 Female GHT. Or you can use a 1/2 Male NPT also. For the chiller I used the 3/4 Female NPT fitting. You should be able to find this stuff in the garden sprinkler section, at Home Depot or Lowe’s.
Hey nice set up! Do your hose inside the box not sweat? I didn’t see any venting for the chiller on your box. Is it cause your ambient temp is cold also?
Thank you! I don’t have any issues with the water lines sweating, it’s not sure much the ambient temp it’s more from how dry the air is here. Our humidity is very low where I live. I did add vents, before I did that just left the lid open.
How well does it sustain the temperature with the insulated stock tank? I live in hot CA and my current set up was running constantly.
It runs a lot, I don’t have any insulation on mine.
Hi Daniel just want to verify that all you use to seal the 3/4' barb to 3/4" NPT fittings into the strainers is teflon tape; no orings there? The fittings on the pump come with them, so just wondering. Thanks
Yes in my setup I just used the plumbers tape and it worked just fine. You probably could use the same type of oring that’s on the pump but in my opinion it’s not necessary.
Will you insulate the stock tank, and, if so, how will you do it. Also - will you have an insulated cover? Thanks!
I don’t have any plans currently of doing insulation.
I have the same chiller but I use the activeaqua 800 pump. I don't get that great of water flow, but that might be because I have some 90 degree turns in my lines. My chiller was working great for about a month and now it stopped cooling the water. Not sure what I should do. Any suggestions?
I have t had any issues with my chiller, are you still getting water flow, it’s just not chilling?
@@DanielPlunges still water flow with no cooling of water
The pump you have linked shows a 1/2" outlet on top. How do you get from the 1/2" to the 3/4" piping?
It comes with multiple sized barbs, it has 2 3/4” barbs one of the in and one for out.
When I showed my husband your channel, he really wanted to know how you made yours. Thank you for this.
Yay! Glad it was helpful for you guys! Hopefully you can get one built.
Couple of questions.
1. Are you having any issues with heat from the chiller in the box with no vents?
2. For the hose going from chiller>tank, was there a reason he has that loop of hose above the chiller? I was told the shorter the hose, the better.
I have been leaving the lid open when it’s running to stop it from getting hot, I will be adding vents, so yes definitely recommend lots of vents.
I did not have a 90° connection at the time so I have to do the loop to make it work, I have since changed that to a 90° connection on the chiller so it now goes straight into the tub.
Thanks! Bought the chiller and put the Amazon items in my cart. Before I pull the trigger, would you recommend different bulkhead fittings since they leaked? Would you change anything else?
I would use the bulk heads again, I think the reason they leaked was because I used the 1 1/4 drill bit instead of the 1 inch.
@@DanielPlunges Sounds good. Looking forward to your ozone video
I left a lengthier comment but YT must have deleted it on account of amazon link I pasted. Here's a shortened rewrite:
Have been plunging for 6 months, same tub as you, kept in the garage with a 2" EPS foam cut to sit in the rim ~3" down and a plywood top. I cycle 11 frozen 1 gal water bottles in daily and temps range from 46-66 now that it is mid 90s outside.
Last week I insulated the bottom with 2 cans of Great Stuff foam insulation (door and window) and a 50'x1' roll of r8 foam core secured with aluminum tape on the sides (I cut pieces to fit the recesses and make it flat, then wrapped it fully 2x). Temps are now 37-42! I was worried about the reliability of a $250 chiller, but feeling confident now that the tub is well insulated.
Do you have any issues, with the pump humming loud after running for a few days?
It’s definitely not the most quiet pump on the market, not sure if I would describe it as a hum but it does make noise. My next DIY is going to use a danner pump, they are more expensive but I have seen they are quieter.
@@DanielPlunges yeah I'm going to upgrade to a larger pump too. I've noticed that when the filter gets dirty the pump starts to make a loud vibrating/buzzing sound. It quiets down once the filter is cleaned or replaced. How often do you have to replace your filter?
Waiting on an update on this! Would love to see how it's holding up and how to add Ozone.
It’s all working good, I am still editing the video of the ozone install. I’ll hopefully get it posted here soon.
@@DanielPlunges How cold does it get?
Depends on the outside temp. When the weather was in the 90s with the tub in the shade I am able to keep the temp under 40°f with the tub not being insulated the chiller does run a lot.
@@DanielPlungeslet's see that new video ! 💪🏽
How long does it take it to get down to cold temps? I live in south Florida and this is gonna be outside under an enclosed area.
I have mine turn on for about 8 hours every night and then I plunge in the morning and it’s nice and cold.
I followed the set up to a t. But my rockfall chiller is not getting below 60° do you know how to reset the chiller or can you make a video going through setting the temperature
Is that a typo or did you mean to say rockfall chiller? If you’re using the Rocita Chiller I may be able to give some advice.
@@DanielPlunges yes typo!! I have the same Rocita chiller!
Dan, I had the Venturi valve arrow facing towards the chiller. Is it possible that was the cause of it not chilling? I just swapped that
How is it holding up after using it everyday?
Very well! No issues yet.
Nice clean setup. Was looking for the right plumbing parts for my new chiller. Thanks for saving me a lot of time.
Thanks! I’m glad you like it.
I'm sure i'm missing it but where does the venturi valve go?
I will be getting that video up soon, it’s going right after the chiller before the water goes back into the tub, I’m just going to cut the tubbing and put it in.
This was a great video! How is the chiller working? I have an 80-100 gallon plunge. not looking for it to get very cold...40-50 would be fine for me. Wondering if the the chiller is sufficient for that?
It has been good for me so far, I’m using the bigger tubing and pump. The chiller does come with a pump and smaller tubing I have not used it with that, but I have heard of other people that use it and they said they had no issues. If your interested in something that’s more powerful and also has a way to heat the water then Revx would be a good option use Promo Code DANIELPLUNGES if you go that route. If you buy the chiller+sanitation cabinet+hose kit you could be all set to go without having to do most of the “DIY” I do in this setup.
Let me know if you have any other questions, I’m glad you found the video to be good.
@@DanielPlunges I've got all the supplies in the Amazon shopping cart waiting for payday!
@michaelnattrass2081 awesome!
Did you end up installing the ozone?
Yes! I am still working on editing the video, I should have it up here soon.
Hello Daniel, this is the best build video on youtube right now. I'm going to follow your exact steps once i buy this within the next month or two. I will let you know once i do. You made this extremely easy to follow. Please send me your email in case i have any questions. Thank you!!!! And enjoy the plunge!
Thanks for the kind words! I appreciate that very much, I will be doing a new diy video here in the next month or two using the Frozin 400 tub, it’s a fully insulated option. This Rubbermaid option is still the best if you’re looking for something in the $600 price range. The frozin 400 DIY will be close to $2,000
I clicked the link for the chiller that you used. It takes me to Wal-Mart's website and according to the specs, it says the temp range is from 68-78 degrees....so how are you able to get this to chill lower than 68?
Not sure why the specs say that, the machine can be set all the way down to 32°f I have gotten mine to hold 35 no problem. I wonder if it says that because of the small pump it comes with, as you can see I used a different pump and tubing.
Okay makes sense. Maybe next time just put a thermometer in the water to show us the water temp because we only have your word to prove it. Oh wait maybe you have another video with that I'll go check.
More emphasis on the outside temps and water temps and I'd prolly subscribe!
If I wanted to use a 150 gallon tank would I have to get a bigger chiller?
I’m not sure, that might be a little big, I use it with a 100 gallon which is about 80 gallons what I fill it. If the have the money I highly recommend the Revx wellness setup, you can get just the pump/sanitation cabinet and chiller of the whole system, they gave me a discount code for my subscribers DANIELPLUNGES
@@DanielPlunges yeah I’m 6’2 240 so unfortunately I kinda need the space, if I’m going to spend 1500-2000 on a set up I want it to be comfortable.
I subscribed to your TH-cam!!!
@@BRXTHER-X heck yeah brother! Thank you! I get way more views on here than I do on TikTok.
Brother, thank you for this! I ordered everything off your links!
@@VenilaRice your welcome! Thats awesome, Thanks for the support.
This is so underrated
Thanks for the encouragement! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Is there a video on how you made the box?
The link is in the description, it’s on my DIY channel @DanielsDIY
Hey Daniel! Just bought everything via your links! My total expense was about $890 with taxes and shipping etc. Just an update. Thank you for the video. Hope I can put this together without too much trouble.
Thank you very much for the support, and thanks for the update. I don’t have any sales taxes in Montana so that would be the reason it was cheaper for me.
@DanielPlunges Did you add the venturi and ozone yet? Saw a DIY video where they suggest running 2 seperate pipes, having 1 run through the venturi, since it's narrow/high pressure, and could affect the pump. Thoughts? Thanks !
@alex88goode yes I did add the ozone and Venturi injector. I don’t know what video your referring too but I do believe it is right, I did notice some restriction on water flow the way I did it, I just put it inline with everything else. I just need to finish editing the video and then I will get it posted. I did just receive the Frozin 400 cold tub and got everything ordered from Amazon to do a DIY build on that. That build is going to be $1900 all in. I will be doing what you mentioned in that build, I’m not sure if it will work better or not, I’ll be using the same ozone generator as I did in my first DIY build but I will be using these two items to split the hose into two so one will be unrestricted and the other will go through the ozone, my biggest concern with splitting the lines into two is the lane with the Venturi might not have enough flow to make the Venturi do its job.
I hope all that makes sense.

@DanielPlunges that makes alot of sense to me as well. I'd be curious how it goes. I think the video I saw they had a faster / stronger pump. Looking forward to the video. Thanks !
