    In this video I give realistic 4C hair growth tips and discuss the struggles of my 4C hair growth journey.

    😊THANK YOU! 🥰
    Recently; I’ve discussed how to grow your natural 4C hair thick and long, now it’s time to add the final puzzle 🧩 piece: MY MOISTURIZING & LENGTH RETENTION ROUTINE
    ❎ Understanding the Difference Between Hydration and Moisturization to Grow Long Healthy Natural Hair
    💦 Hydration is the process of applying water to the hair and involves penetrating the hair strand. It is meant to increase the absorption of water in your hair follicles, and increase the amount of water in your hair.
    This is why the maximum hydration method is so popular within our community.
    Stay tuned, video coming soon with my thoughts on this method!
    🧴 Moisturization is the process of locking water or hydration in the hair shaft, which is focused on the surface of the hair strand.
    For more on how to slow down the speed of evaporation, see my video on the 3 Realistic Tips to Grow Longer Thicker Hair to Waist Length | • Do THIS to Prevent Nat...
    So while hydration is about moisture absorption, moisturization is about moisture retention.
    👉 This means hydrators will normally contain humectants while moisturizers contain sealants or anti-humectants.
    Humectants attract and hold water molecules from the environment into your hair strands, providing them moisture. Often when this happens your natural hair feels like cotton.
    While oils and butters are moisturizers and are more thicker in texture to prevent moisture loss.
    You need to both hydrate and moisturize in order to prevent dryness.
    Trust me, your hair will never stop growing if you us this logic throughout your natural hair journey.
    ❎ How to Get Rid of Product Buildup
    Product buildup happens when we over use 4C hair growth products and they stop being absorbed by the hair strand, or when your hair is not properly cleansed.
    Which can lead to dryness and result in your natural hair feeling like straw.
    Scalp buildup can cause hair loss if left untreated and the dead skin, oil, and sweat clog your hair follicles. This can lead to an uncomfortable condition called folliculitis.
    Folliculitis causes inflammation of the hair follicles that sometimes results in infection. Severe cases of folliculitis may cause crusty sores that don’t seem to heal. These sores can cause permanent hair loss and scarring.
    ❌ Avoid Product & Scalp Buildup by:
    -Limiting the amount of product you use,
    -Maintaining a healthy 4C hair growth routine and
    -Washing your hair after exercising
    Hope this helps!
    Xoxo, 💜

      I know I'm really late but my hair is 3b and 3c and it shrinks to just just under shoulder length and it is just below shoulder length so it's not just 4c textures that do this. My hair is also fine and it is medium and I low porosity, I feel you on the shrinkage though.

    I noticed when I stopped treating my wash days like a chore and started treating it like my ME day I’ve seen a big change in the health of my hair. I use a day where I have absolutely nothing else to do but focus solely on my hair, I don’t have small kids anymore though. But I take my time, find a good movie and just go as slow and gentle as I can. I also started loving my hair where it is. I stopped comparing my hair to others, stopped worrying about what other people thought of my hair and just loved all over mine and started seeing growth without even trying. I also have been getting my friends and family to do the same. Our hair is versatile and unique and the sooner we realize that the better off we will be on our own personal hair journey. My kinks coils and curls are a behavior and I wouldn’t trade with anyone on this planet.

    Your points are 💯 correct. Hair growth is about accepting and loving your hair, good products, and a great technique. You do those three things and your hair will flourish. There are no shortcuts to learning your hair but when you do, the journey is so much easier and wash days won’t be so much of a chore. Great video.

    about 10 years ago, i decided to get serious about taking care of my hair: regular washes, deep conditioning, protein treatments, keeping it moisturized and hydrated with the LOC method, keeping it stretched and using protective hairstyles, putting less stress on my hairline, minimizing heat, using heat protectants when i do use heat, getting regular trims, and even supplementation in my diet. sadly nothing has really worked.

    you are sooo pretty and the things you are saying are absolute facts. Hearing these facts six months ago has helped me achieve a lot of growth! Most of all, keeping my hair stretched through the wash day helped me the absolute most, wayyy less knots and so much easier to detangle overall. I keep my hair stretched at all times. After I take down my twist out I retwist it in big twists every night like you and it keeps my hair knot free!

    I’ve come to the conclusion that hair growth is genetic. There’s ppl who don’t care for their hair and still have hair down their backs. There’s others who take good care of their hair and it will only grow so long.

    • @JheriJohnson
      @JheriJohnson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +61

      At worst a persons hair will grow 0.5 inches over the course of two years. If the length is retained over two years, that’s a lot of growth. Another 18in over the next two years after that and someone has waist length hair. Genetics play a role in how much your hair grows per month(0.5in to 1in) but you can determine how you retain the length. Unfortunately, a lot of black women don’t know how to grow their hair long due to length retention issues. My number one tip I tell people is aloe Vera gel as a pre poo and fenugreek oil in your shampoo or conditioner. Freaking game changer!

    Thank you for this video! It is very informative! I did have a question about buildup.
    In the description you mentioned that exercising can lead to scalp buildup and to wash your hair after exercising. I’m currently trying to workout 5 days a week. Would I need to wash my hair everyday? Or just do a weekly wash?

    • @JheriJohnson
      @JheriJohnson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a very great question Queen and it truly depends on how hard you sweat.
      If you’re a heavy sweater and you don’t have other scalp issues, you may want to consider wash day every 3-4 days, just make sure you’re deep conditioning every session to avoid drying out your strands.
      If you’re not a heavy sweater, every 4-5 days should be prefect!🥰🙏🙏

    TBH I have DREADED my wash days for years and still do. I prolong my protective styles and I was depressed and wore a fro for abt 2 weeks before I washed it 2 days ago. This caused in some breakage and I'm tired of this pattern...Though I finger detangled and deep conditioned, I was too tired to do anymore. I usually will braid and weave it up, but I'm tired of that as well. I just want to like my hair and let it THRIVE as is...But it is so hard when our hair is SO DIFFICULT to deal with. half of me wants to cut it off and fade it!!! I'm tired of this being a FIGHT.

    • @JheriJohnson
      @JheriJohnson  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can definitely relate to your frustration Queen.
      For me…it’s easier to manage coily kinky hair on a weekly basis rather than a biweekly basis.
      Even though it’s more work, I experienced less breakage handling my hair before it dried out.
      I hope this helps ❤️

    • @marleyhill34
      @marleyhill34 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to apply a leave-in conditioner daily and sometimes twice a say to keep my hair moisturised. I also have to deep condition weekly. My trichologists recommend steaming the leave-in daily with a hot towel for 20 minutes and steaming the deep conditioner weekly with a hot towel for 20 minutes. The majority of people expect their hair to stay moisturised for two weeks but that is not the reality for many of us. I don't need a large amount and I don't need to restyle my hair every day. Literally a 5-minute mist in the morning and a 5-minute rub of cream in the evening and keeping my hair wrapped in the silk or satin scarf stops my hair from drying out. I clarify and chelate every 4-6 weeks and the rest of the time i use a moisturising shampoo.

    • @marleyhill34
      @marleyhill34 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Abc17890 Not my favourite because it is high in silicone. I would use Creme of Nature Argan Oil Curl Activator Cream instead.
