      Hi Susanne, so happy to have you as part of the channel. I'm putting together a draft for the video so it should be up soon. Yeah the whole SD card thing is something to keep in mind. The way I manage is to make sure that I check the laptop every 10 images or so to make sure it is still working. The way that C1 renders the RAW images is so much nicer (in my opinion) to lightroom that for me it is worth it. Let me know how you go. Dan :-)

      Hi Jody, thanks for the message. Capture one will let you set the destination folder on your computer when you create a new session. If you miss it you can always change it later. On the left side you will find all the panel controls. Select the capture tool bar (The little camera icon) and below that you will find the Next Capture Location section where you can select the dropdown menu and select where you want the files to be saved to. I hope that helps but let me know if it's not clear. Dan

    Sometimes the brands or magazines want a specific size so you need to crop them. If you crop the images with the tools on the top, would it have the effect on the next capture, right?
    Thanks a lot!

    • @DanCantero
      @DanCantero  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Yes the Canon T7i is supported. Sometimes, when you connect the camera and turn it on, your computer will launch the canon software that can cause conflicts with capture one. If that is the case try closing down the canon software or deleting it. Failing that, I would try a different USB cable. See if that works.

    Hi dan. I have a question for you. i would like to show my clients the photo's in live view in the studio, but then transfer those photo's to my computer in the office and edit them there. If I use Capture 1 in the studio, how can I transfer them to the office computer? Is there a way of downloading them and then transfer them to the office?

    • @DanCantero
      @DanCantero  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Chris, I have a similar requirement to you and an approach that might work. When I set up the tethered session, I set it up so that the images are saved to an external SSD drive. This let's me and the client see the images then and there. When I finish the session, I unplug the drive and connect it to my editing computer. From there, it's just a matter of importing the images into C1 on my editing computer which only takes a few seconds. Hope that helps. Dan

    • @davidstockment8640
      @davidstockment8640 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      One of the things I most dislike about Lightroom is that you CANNOT run the Lightroom catalog off of a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device, making the Lightroom catalog available to any computer on my network. Q: Does C1 allow putting the Session and Catalog files on my NAS so I can access the catalogs and edit these files on the NAS from any computer on my network?? This alone would make the switch to C1 worth it for me.

    This is a great tutorial and all, but I can't figure out how to get Capture One to just show me raw and unedited photos that I'm taking. How am I going to know whether the shots need light or settings adjustments, are straight and properly exposed if they are all instantly adjusted by this software?

    • @DanCantero
      @DanCantero  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmm. that's a bit odd. It sounds like you are applying your edits over the top of the images. (Which is a great feature of capture one) try disabling this so that you only see the RAW straight out of camera.

    Hello does canon 6d works with tethering to capture one

    • @DanCantero
      @DanCantero  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Richmond. Yes it does but the 6D has some funny settings. First off make sure you are on Firmware V1.1.3 of the camera. Second thing to know is that tethering to this camera will only work if you disable the WI-FI on the camera. Once you've done thing it will work. You may have to disconnect the camera and reconnect it again and it will work fine. I hope this helps.

    • @DanCantero
      @DanCantero  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Eric, that is a really great point. I didn't know that. It might have something to do with the fact that Capture One will not write to the cards and computer at the same time. Good work-around. Thanks for sharing with us. Dan

      Hey Daniel, you are one of the lucky ones. It's got to do with the way that some cameras write to the memory cards. There are a few more cameras that can do this now.

    Lightroom never saved photos to my cards on any of my Nikon cameras

    • @DanCantero
      @DanCantero  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Fred, this is not the normal behaviour as the photos should also be saved to the camera. Can I confirm that you are using Lightroom and not Capture One. Capture one will only save to the computer for most cameras. I would also make sure that the firmware on your cameras is up to the latest version and you may also consider reseting the camera settings to the factory settings. This will wipe out any configuration that may be causing this. 99% sure this is a camera setting thing rather than Lightroom. What camera models are you using?

      Lucky you! :-)
      You must have one of the few cameras that can do this. It's due to the way the camera saves the image.
      From the Capture one website.
      "Some cameras have the ability to save images to a memory card during the tethered shoot though. Those are Sony A7 III/A7R III/A9 and some Fujifilm cameras."

      Check to see if you have the Canon software installed. If so, try to remove it. The way that C1 connects to cameras is different to Lightroom and sometimes the software can get into a conflict on which piece of software should have control.

      Hi Dean, I've had this same issue and solved it by using a different USB port on my computer. Also make sure that your computer is set to not use low power settings. Thanks Dan. But this tutorial shows far too much beyond, yet not enough about tethered shooting. Sorely missing is "Camera Focus". How fine can focus be adjusted? It seems from your video (as I accidentally caught it for a second or two) that it only be adjusted in Live View. Many of your viewers watch those clips BEFORE they decide to purchase a particular software and like to know as much as possible beforehand. So, when you give an instructional a specific title, stay with that topic and completely flesh it out. Spend the whole 20 minutes on tethering. Thanks and I will be looking at your future videos.

  • @dee9692
    @dee9692 19 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    @DanCantero
    This video is seriously outdated and, as a consequence, gives incorrect and misleading information. In any case, it's not so much about tethering but rather about editing in Capture One. Moreover, there are claims and suggestions that are just plain wrong.
    Most importantly, @0:38, the presenter immediately prefaces the whole tutorial by stating that Capture One does things "a little bit differently" to LightRoom, namely that Capture One does NOT save the captured image to your in-camera card, only directly to your computer. This is, of course, nonsense in terms of the current software.
    For a Sony A7R5 camera at least, I can confirm from personal experience that Version 16.4.3 (downloaded 24/6/2024) has a number of options as to where the image is transferred and stored:
    1] RAW------------------to Capture One (as directed by software options on computer)
    2] RAW------------------to Capture One---------------RAW to card
    3] JPEG-----------------to Capture One---------------RAW to card
    4]JPEG------------------to Capture One-------------JPEG to card
    Transfers of RAW files to the screen can take marginally longer than JPEGs of course (1.5--2.5 seconds perhaps, depending on your equipment). For all practical purposes, JPEGs will appear instantaneously on your screen. How long RAW files take to get to the card depends on its type and how fast your card writes. The speed to card becomes more or less irrelevant if you use the Capture One screen mainly to check focus, exposure, and compositional structure rather than perform any kind of complex editing during a shoot.
    And one more small thing which arises from Dan Contero's commentary:
    You CAN use adapters, such as those for changing a USB-C plug on the tethering cable so that it fits into an older USB-A receptor on your laptop or PC. The trick is to make sure your adapter is rated to carry the data at the same or higher rate as the cable, in the case of TetherTools, generally "up to 10Gbps". I am using 10Gbps plug adapters (cheaply obtained on Amazon) as I write this to capture a screen shot of Dan to my computer using Capture One. And just to confirm, I can see the RAW file on my camera as well as I have elected to happen in the software.
    And I think the statement that "ANY" USB cable is ok is questionable to say the least. It's generally recommended that USB charging be turned off during tethering. In any case, tethering cables need to be able to carry data. A dedicated charging cable does not allow this. There are cables that carry charge and data which might be suitable but since charging should be off, these are unnecessary. Whatever cable is used, it must be rated from 5-10Gbps.
    Now, I don't care what LR does or does not do, especially given the recent issues with Adobe software terms and conditions maladministration, but if you want a program to do any more than Capture One currently provides in relation to tethering then you might be asking too much!!
    I don't work for Capture One or any subsidiary, or any retailer of the software. I own a perpetually licensed copy and I'm happy to promote a product that ACTUALLY does raise your workflow game.
    Why this kind of outdated content is allowed to remain online purporting to be of use is beyond my comprehension. The take-away has to be: take care with who you choose to obtain your working information from!

    • @DanCantero
