You understand that back in the day the entire DJ industry was up for grabs... and Pioneer DJ is where they are now because they 100% earned it with rock solid products and industry shaping features delivered consistently for over 30 years.

      James Mckenna I wouldn’t say “worth” at all 😂 Yes they might sell for that nowadays, but in terms of true value and “bang for your buck”, they’re a £20-30k car MAX. The prices they sell for nowadays are just disgusting.

    In the mid 90s in Washington DC I worked at a record store and a friend of mine who worked there Daryl had a Pioneer DJ 500-G player. He went out and bought the mk2 player as soon as it got released. I bought the 500-G from him for $200 dollars, a superb bargain back then. It wasn't even six months old!
    Took it out of storage and still plays flawless today!

    Full model history here: CDJ 300 - 1992 (like this but no looping buttons), CDJ 500 - 1994 (1 looping button), CDJ 500 II - 1996 (2 looping buttons, like yours), CDJ 500s aka 700 - 1997, CDJ 100s - 1998, CDJ 1000 - 2001 (and from here you know the rest, MK II & MK III)

    Still got my CDJ 500 MKIs that do indeed predate the MKIIs. Slight difference between them is that the MKI only has a single loop button that you literally had to press twice to start & stop the loop. A bit hit or miss. No fine adjustment possible. Stop/Start. That was it I also have the DJM 500 mixer that went with it. Bought them in 1995 from a guy who was upgrading to the MKIIs so they must be coming up for 30 years old soon. MKIIs became the industry standard for many years. As you say a piece of History!!! Love 'em

    It's funny how life turns out. When I first saw the CDJ-500s I knew this would be the future of djing. It just made more sense, to lug around a few cd wallets/cases then heavy ass record crates/cases. Not to mention the looping capabilities. However, back in the mid-90s everyone convinced me that vinyl was the way to go. Which was true until Final Scratch, Traktor and Serato bridged the gap between analog and digital, where now, digital medium has won out.

    When I got my 1st residency in 97 they where using the cdj 300 mk1 then they up graded to the 300 mk2 these came out in 92. The only difference was the mk1 had a split second delay in the cue sampling and pressing play but other wise they where identical. The only down side we found was if for some reason the cd lid would not open you had to jam a knife down the side of the lid between that and the eject button to open it lol.

    CDJ500Mk2-LTD is the same as the standard Mk2 but has loop-out adjust on the fly like the later CDJs , once a loop is established you can hit the loop-out and it will flash, then you adjust the loop out point with the jog wheel or the same hitting the loop-in button, all while already looping. Otherwise all the same. CDJ500mk1 just has the one loop button and the play-cue button mechanisms are similar to the technics SL1210 with a centre sleeve bearing that can gunk up.

      Yes they did, but 1 button only. The CDJ-300 did not. I had the CDJ-500, but when the 500II came out only a year later, I had to sell them to afford the new ones. Price for both models were just below £1000 (10 000 SEK where I live), and back then, if you went for the whole setup (2CDJ's and a DJM-500), you could get 10% off the price. Back in 1994/95 that was pretty close to what the latest club gear sell for now. Back then the DJM-500 was the same price as one CDJ, just the way Pioneer DJ still set the pricing.

    Think the CDJ500 were introduced around 1993... Mk2 not far after. The difference was, as far as I rember, one added loop-button, as well as reloop. The original only had 1 button.
    Wanted the CDJ500mkII during all my teen years, but ended buying Gemini due to budget. Then moved to Denon DN2600F when working as a DJ. For home use the later years (working in office, not as DJ), I have bought CDJ1000mkIII and now CDJ2000Nxs.

    • @dj-peterofficial2753
      @dj-peterofficial2753 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, they were never made for DJ use, at least not in clubs but rather for radio stations, and the price were horrendously high. Here in Sweden the price for one player were around £4000. They had pitch fader, but you couldn't set manual cue points, and the start time when you pushed the start button were like ages. Worked fine in a radio station where someone talks in between tracks all the time, but for any kind of beat mixing or cut mixing they were useless.

    i find this funny when cd decks where made and it was great make like pioneer they still work today and when get decks that had gotten other features like usb and midi they dont put much effort in making good cd deck player anymore so they tend to not last long where cd won't eject gets stuck or gets an error message im having that probem with mine but not just happens to me most of the decks its common problem my decks are citronic mpcd-x3 they both have cd drive problems plus one of them randomly changes pitch keeps going up and up ive got tap wheel to stop it.

    • @dj-peterofficial2753
      @dj-peterofficial2753 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stick to Pioneer if you want older CDJ's to work. I have 4 CDJ-1000MK3's that came out in 2006. They all look quite battled, but they work just fine. I also have a couple of CDJ-200 from 2003, also working perfect. Since 1994 I've never had a Pioneer CDJ that stops working or break down. The only service I've ever made is to get new switches for the cue/play/pause buttons a couple of times, but only after like 6 years of heavy use.
