I’m just starting out. But I have a mic but working on ideas of things to say to a crowd. I know sometimes using the mic at certain points gets the crowd hype. You can hype up a record and the energy that way.
Thanks for the info bro. Good advice as usual. I too use the mic. The bar owners Always tell me that I'm the only Dj that comes to their spot and interact with the crowd.
Yo! This is a solid topic! I MC a ton of events and all I can say is, think of an MC as a traffic director. A good MC keeps the movement of the event going, but does not distract it. Def you have to observe and assess the crowd you are talking too. To all you DJ's, go MC and get your chops wet! 🎤🎙📣
Personally I have the type of personality that allows me to use the mic and enhances my experience. People enjoy a dope freestyle that involves them. I’ll rhyme about the specific club I’m playing at and people love it. As long as you don’t force it and have fun!!!
I like MCs at Hip Hop shows & some DnB shows, But I’ve definitely seen instances where an event was Over MC’d or just poorly done. I’m No MC...I’ll use Drops or An A cappella of another MC before I personally grab the Mic lol. Just Don’t like the way my voice sounds Unless singing and then only in the shower or to my girl 😂😂 But as a spectator I would definitely say in moderation it can definitely add to a set & if over done it can destroy a set. Another great vid homie. You’re an inspiration to us all.
Now I’m just waiting for that Du Boi singing video 😄😄 But you’re right bro, too much MC’ing is annoying to say the least. I will tell an MC to tone it down during my set if it’s too much
Great advice. Thank you. I also find that because I am not really all that great on the mic and really rely on my hands being on the turntables to create energy, having some type of mic stand or gooseneck that holds my microphone close by really helps in my performance. I can hit them with real quick ad-libs that keep me connected to the flow and the experience the room is living without having to leave my faders/platters which makes me more efficient in delivering whatever it is that I want to say. Having my hands be free to work and the mic close-by for quick/on-the-spot interactions has helped me get better on the mic (just due to the way I dj). It works differently for everyone. those are my 2cents. 👋🏻
Ive been to clubs where Djs talk to much over every song and me as a dj gets asked to go over and ask them to shut up. Lol. Im one of those Djs that get in and out with my announcements. And adress the crowd when needed.
Well, I can tell you that the Shure SM58 (or a wireless version of that mic) are probably the most used stage mics for artists and DJs. That’s the mic I’ve seen on most stages and clubs in the last 28 years. There is also one Sennheiser mic that I’ve seen and used a lot, but I forgot the model number
I hate talking on the mic, but I DJ a comedy show and I introduce the host and I freeze up sometimes... I also want to get the crowd involved so I'm gonna try and use this advice... thanks
Hy . I am in despair. My DDJ-RZX outputs the microphone on master and I can hear it on the stereo system connected with chinch. However, I can't hear it on the streaming software OBS when I want to stream. My Controller Software is of course Recordbox. Do you have a tip on what the problem could be? Kind regards from Germany.
I don’t know. Say what you want to say. All I can add is: look at your crowd. If you’re doing disco gigs and the crowd is 40+, they probably won’t enjoy a screaming overly hyped DJ ;)
Talk some shit here and there about how good it was back in the disco days / how this was real music / who came to boogie? (or other 1970's phrases to joke with) / hype up certain people in the crowd / talk about how hot the club or the crowd is / every once in a while say a little of one of the lyrics -- like one bar's worth Yeah stuff like that.
I only used the mic once, cus' a dude was constantly touching the CDJ platter. Though he was being funny, got kicked out the club in a matter of seconds lol....
Back in 2013 i was at this club in NJ and the DJ said he wanted all the fat & ugly people off the floor then got a girl to show everyone her vag. i don't know if all DJs are like that or if it was just him. but i thought it was very unprofessional!
Dude! Just get to the main points of the video. Quit droning on and on with useless information! Just get right to it and simply list the things to say and when to say them. No need for the extra fluff.
This video gives me the courage to try the mic during a set. Appreciate it
That’s dope! 👍🏽
hey kevin bradby me to! i personally dont like to use the mike but knowi will
If you go to a jamaican club you will see, the dj plays 10 seconds and talks 30 seconds 😂😂
Haha, classic 😂😂
LOOOOL
Manuel Cardenas unfortunately at most dances yes.
And then uses airhorns for a further 20 seconds. You'd think with all the ganj there they'd be more chilled..
The basis of our love / hate relationship to dancehall clubs
When you MC just remember to talk on beat! I hate it when MCs can't hype the crowd with the beat, it throws me off when I'm trying to mix.

It can be a real addition to your skill set
I tried saying somethign on the mic and the crowd just looked at me...I put the mic down and never use it after that...lol.
RiddyOnline 😂 same here brother!! I just let me mixes do the talking. 🍻
U got me dude gagahahahahagahha
Believe in yourself 🙏🏽
I feel u lol
DJ TLM you uploaded these videos years ago and they're still very informative and relevant as well👏👏👏👏

💯💯
Thank u this has got me less to overthink and gave me the motivation to get on the mic even if i say something simple.
DJ TLM Thanks brother👊🏿 best advice I've got as an MC specifically House music MC sounds like I'm on a right lane
Personally I have the type of personality that allows me to use the mic and enhances my experience. People enjoy a dope freestyle that involves them. I’ll rhyme about the specific club I’m playing at and people love it. As long as you don’t force it and have fun!!!
This my weakness sometimes, it really depends on the party and the vibe of the crowd to constantly say something
Simple but effective advice, ty sir!
Love the idea for BPM switch!

I'm from Florida....the MC is considered a "Music Regulator" (Jam Pony, Sugar Hill, and, etc) So using the mic where I'm from is a MUST.
I would like to know some more lines to hype up the crowd. I usually play hip hop trap moombhaton etc I m from India and the biggest fan of DJ TLM
Hope you have a happy near year and a great 2020 and get a lot accomplished! 🔥✊🏽

I don’t know. Say what you want to say. All I can add is: look at your crowd. If you’re doing disco gigs and the crowd is 40+, they probably won’t enjoy a screaming overly hyped DJ ;)

Yeah stuff like that.
How do you talk while you mix ?
Well, you could talk in the middle of a transition when both tracks are playing in sync. That’s if you literally mean talking while mixing
@@djTLMtv I got you thanks
I really wanna be an mc for a deejay and I need a course please
Thanks. I just use voiceover effects

💀💀💀
Any working DJ here from delhi...???
I talk when it fits. The people come for the music not to hear the DJ do shout out.
I only used the mic once, cus' a dude was constantly touching the CDJ platter. Though he was being funny, got kicked out the club in a matter of seconds lol....
Ok
Just dont be a late 90's DJ Clue! Yelling all over the track. (Showing my age and from the east coast) lol
Clue clue clue 😂😂 I remember that
Desert Storm storm storm.. 🤣
