    Had 3 of the 4 back in the late 90's - FTO GPX, Integra Type R, and Prelude Type S back in the '90s. Each was a good car in its own right. The Type R was more raucous and had more of a racer feel to it. The FTO's engine was very smooth, but my favorite was the Type S as a great all-rounder and it had a better cabin. They all loved to rev. Japanese engineering at its best.

      ***** tell that to the Viper. Although the 2010's muscle cars like the Shelby GTXXX Mustangs, and ZXX Camaros are great track cars, I will admit the 90s wasn't that great for turning, however what a 90s Camaro or Mustang lacked in the corners, they could make up for in the straights, what with their massive displacement, and V8 motors. I think a Mustang Cobra R, or a Camaro Z28 would've been great on one of these vids, but they're all 15-20 years old, so too late for that.

    Tsukuba Circuit fits perfectly with small FF cars and transferring weight is the key to victory. Braking points are short and immediately after you're supposed to turn, so cars able to transfer weight to the nose, winning the understeer, can win. That's why Integra and FTO were leading, lighter than Prelude and Coupe. The Integra weights 1105kg, Coupe ranges from 1180kg to 1305kg.

    Its sad that the Integra has reached God status among the 90s sports cars but the FTO is just left to rot in people's front yards with parts missing even when it's performance was pretty close to the integra.

    The FTO is a great car. Had 2. One was stock standard GPX and it was a fantastic car, the other stock standard GPX, however a Mitsubishi technician had carried out a bit of upgrading to the suspension, brakes, rigidity of the body and minor engine mods(cold air intake, high grade pod filter, light worx wheels and decent rubber)I t definitely made better driving on the open country roads. Felt like it was on rails compared to my first one I owned which was the exact same model minus the mods.

    I had a 1994 (M reg) import fto mivec, around 2008ish, my mate had the inte type R, I know FTO won here but I spent many Friday and Saturday nights racing my mate up the dual carriageways and Type R is very marginally the quicker car, I would never admit that at the time that his car was ever so slightly quicker, but truth be told it really was, not much though, like, it was marginal, and he could never get away, both VERY impressive though. And very well matched, made for fun times

    The 20 VTurbo Was very fast and looks well with body kit and ragazzon pipes, with ecu tuning about 280 hp.
    But later the engine blow off. Not so good engine.
    Best engine Was in the integra with b18. Abd nice vtec Sound.
    Now i have the prelude with h22a8, the engine is also good its very rare and inovatet with atts and 4ws. And Look very cool, beide and low.
    I wish the fto give wir left hand drive...

  • @ChopStickZero

    I thought Fiat Coupe turbo had one of the best (or the best at that time) FWD LSD so im really surprised that it couldnt put the power down out of the corners.

    • @MrLestatto
      @MrLestatto 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not really, Coupe has just viscous LSD, Tegra has helical one, which is far superior, I think FTO has helical too. Prelude has ATTS, which is not my cup of tea tbh, but I heard some good things about it.

    • @gmabailey40
      @gmabailey40 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The s-spec prelude has a lsd type s has atts. All factory lsds have weak engagements to help longevity.

      This is a base version 20v turbo,in the 1999 fiat has changed the suspension put a 225-45 wheels instead of 205-50 and a torsion bar so it's very much better than this in the race,but the coupè it's not made for track like Integra or FTO, it's a grantourer, but still have the better engine of the group

  • @mikeb3172

    • @shraka
      @shraka 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Prelude is pretty soft stock. Body is a bit heavy and suspension isn't that great.

    • @mehftv
      @mehftv 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      shraka What do you mean? The Fiat coupe is about 400 pounds heavier. If you read magazines from the time the Prelude was released it was compared to RWD cars it handled so well, better than the Integra GS-R and only below the Integra Type R. The suspension is double wishbone which is more advanced than the macpherson struts used on new Honda’s and this Fiat.

    • @shraka
      @shraka 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah the Fiat is softer. I meant compared to the Integra. I'm certainly no expert but I've got a VTiR (GS-R / Si equiv) and I've driven a few Preludes (though I haven't driven that particular model hard) and the Integra feels like it changes direction far quicker for low speed corners. The Prelude may well handle high speed corners better, but it's suspension isn't that great for the kind of track they're on because it's a bit soft, or at least that's what I would suspect based on my experience with the Australian versions. The AUDM VTEC Preludes also seem to accelerate slower 0-100 than even the VTiR, though that could be gearing or slower drivers. I think the Prelude driver was doing what he could with the car. Just my 2c.

      The FTO was better and had tech for the auto version, sourced from Porsche!
