Feeling behind in life is always felt by those who are taking the first few steps in a long journey! The best way to stop making yourself feel like you are falling behind is to track your own progress over time and see that your hard work is paying off. Great video!

It helps but does not get rid of the feeling The only reason people feel that way is truthfully due to one simple cause and that is constantly attempting to compare yourself or your possessions people need to be content with themselves before they be content about their life The two are different and hard to achieve that's why most people feel that way but tracking your progress is not going to truthfully mitigate that feeling it'll let you know you're on the right track and every now and then it might give you a little bump in motivation but it does not get rid of that feeling

I don’t comment on videos often but this is some quality content brother.
This video displays a truth that needs to be told to so many. The world is a crazy, broken, unpredictable place. We must (for the sake of our kids) live humbly, work hard to gather skills so that we can add value to our communities… and in return add to our pockets. We must refuse to listen to the voices that tell us, “you won’t own anything in 10 years, and you will be ok with it”. We must fight the worldly desires to consume, indulge, waste. In return we must save, invest, and give. A financially free man has the ability to liberate others and change his neighborhood. Let us be the ones to set others free.

I’m on permanent disability assistance at 22, I can’t afford my necessary surgery and I don’t know how to not feel worthless as a human being because of how inescapable poverty really is. Thank you for this video, it’s very hard to bear these emotions alone. I forget that other people are also experiencing these thoughts because it’s all so isolating

"I worked like an absolute dog to make this happen.", I totally understand that. I own rentals and will be able to quit the rat race this year. When I started this I literally stopped buying stupid stuff for 5 years, paid off my house, that became rental 1, stopped putting money into 401k and Roth, saved for another 3 years, bought rental 2 (had bullet holes in the siding) fixed it up for 6 months. But it does get easier, people just see the easy part.

Hey Steve, just want to say thanks to such great video. It was very encouraging and motivated me to continue to figure out my way to FIRE. Started my career as freelancer almost a decade ago and while I did manage to save quite a bit, I didn’t know how to invest my money to let it grow faster. Since the pandemic happened, my work nearly came to a stop but fixed expenses didn’t slow down. The pandemic also made it harder to get a mortgage for self-employed and with housing prices and other essential things in life continue on the raise, I’ve become quite worried about if I would make it out of this. Watching your video today gave me the encouragement to continue to fight and find my way again. Thank you 😊

One thing I’ve been thinking about more and more is to treat housing kind of like we treat electricity or water - it’s a public good that should not be able to be bought up by private corporations and rented out. Like set a maximum of one person can only own three extra properties, and they can only be within a 50 mile radius of where they live. So make housing regional again and keep private investors out. Regulate it like mad, and kick out corporate buyers since they are not contributing, just sucking out resources. Allow for small time landlords since they can offer the best rates. Allow apartment buildings still, but keep companies out of SFH and 2-4 unit structures.

I’ve been studying trying to get out of generational poverty. I’ve been looking at what I am missing one is limiting yourself to one income we cannot live on one income. Also I’m looking at the minimum wage we really messed ourselves up with minimum wage if we could get paid the actual market value for any job we would be better off. We need to be a solution instead of the problem. We can limit ourself just by not self educating ourselves. So education and educating our children ourselfs would be a better way.

Something I will say is that I agree with most points here but I am still part of all the generation that "Can't afford housing" and I largely see that this is the case for anyone I know or know of due to the the fact that they decide to enjoy things in life outside of having a house. They don't understand the financial commitment to be able to buy into the market nor the cost once you're there.
For many years I had the cheapest everything and did without for years and the current generation are more than ever being pushed the "Keep up with the Jones's" mentality and it is hard to ignore with all the crazy buying financial schemes that are around these days.
In short, I think it is a matter of keeping track of how much you spend and for the first 5 to 10 years of your working life it is really just about saving hard and saving what you can to get that house and invest what you can to make your later years easier.
I have been on a "Like" fire journey for 9 ish years and did only find out what FIRE Was in my early 20s.
Love all the information in this video BTW :)

this video is great, it has many good points but it skips the important part: all the wealth generated are going to the pockets of the shareholders of the companies. and to say that people should work more (in these side hustles) to buy assets feels like drying ice because these incredibly rich people are creating hedge funds to buy more assets and it becomes even harder for ‘normal people’ to buy asset, we just can’t compete with them. that’s one of the reasons why housing prices keep going up. but that’s capitalism for you
anyways the video (and the whole channel) has some great tips that i’ll sure follow

Not advocating for RH at all, just saying their fee free investing should have helped a bit. Another interesting idea is the inheritance of wealth from generation to generation, that to some degree should help to redistribute things since a lot of middle class millennials have upper class parents.

I think the development of two income families was a big contributor to the increase in housing prices in the last 50 years. Also, the increased mobility of wealthy people from developing countries who have moved to cities like Vancouver and Toronto, for so many reasons. Finally, super low interest rates have made a huge difference.
The biggest gift people can give themselves is to develop the discipline to live well within their means, and invest the “gap”, as you say. The second biggest gift is to improve their value-added, through education, attitude, etc., thereby increasing take-home pay.
You are helping people - keep up the great work.

This is a little misleading. Interest rates have dropped a significant amount, so mortgage payments haven't risen as much as you'd think. I know people that were paying 16+% interest on their homes that now have mortgage rates under 3%. Don't get me wrong it's still a big jump.

    • @steveantonioni
      @steveantonioni  2 ปีที่แล้ว

You’re right, that’s an important point regarding mortgage costs. But the value of the home can be prohibitively high because of the higher down payment required.
Additionally, as the value of a home increases, people can pull out equity for more investing.
Both of these factors cause inequality to rise which was the main point.
You have a valid point that’s part of the discussion but I disagree re: misleading.
