it's called showing the two sides of the coin. you don't win an argument by censoring the other side. if you don't agree, take him to court and file a civil defamation suit. This on the other hand is the court of public opinion. if anything, take this as a learning moment and mind your public image a bit more carefully.

Riff City just posted their side of the story on their Twitter account. They say Rob is lying.
WOW! Ten minutes ago I thought all of this was just a bunch of stupid, concocted drama, and I still think that the Als stuff is, but this article and the way he and his company did Riff City is the real scoop!
I remember the tour videos, the freakin bus, and I remember thinking at the time that somebody, probably Riff City, was spending a bunch of money. But you can tell the kind of guy Joe is...you want to be his friend, and I thought Rob was, but wow. Just wow.
I saw Rob’s video in question the day he posted it and now I’m glad that I know the other side too.

I will say I contacted Chapman guitars (several times) to sell them in the mom and pop store I worked at. They never so much as responded. I know a couple of other small stores that had the same experience. So, if he thinks he's going to save the brand by clinging to the smaller branches on the way down the tree, he may be in for a surprise.
A small guitar store here in northern germany did the same. Still no answer either,
Chapman guitars is co-owned by Lee Anderton who runs Anderton's one of the UK's largest internet music retailers. The guitars are distributed by Thomann, Europe's largest music distributor. The guitars are limited runs and likely distributed through Anderton's/Thomann's existing dealer network.

Maybe you were right. 3 years later it seems they're not doing so good. A lot of of endorsees have left and the limited runs guitars ended up on Reverb for 1/3 of the price and further plans to do more have been cancelled.

I generally avoid these channels and this content both on YT and for the MSM. I don't wish to support people who make a career or profit from attacking others. I am not going to name him but it is the reason I have never like one of YT's biggest stars, he's just a "woke" a'hole who has made a fortune from being a popular bully.
As you pointed out in your video and in your comments, he made some points which look like good points but his video went too far and his ignorant representation of the Snake Oil pedals segment was cringeworthy IMO. His overstretching and the errors he made discredit his video. As you say, it would have been better for him to just stick to the stuff he has strong evidence for and leave the personal assault out of it.

I always figured Chapman’s exclusion from That Pedal Show spoke volumes. Dan and Mick are clearly the salt of the earth, they always have huge you tube personalities on as guests. Dan and Mick are great guys but their format is simply different to Robs content. I can guarantee you its not Robs personality. Also I'm pretty sure the Andertons video room and the Pedal Show one are in two completely different locations. Rob is a busy guy. Hes only at Andertons to shoot videos a few days per month. It would probably be very hard for him to collab with Dan and Mick

It is filled with sarcasm and does give a sense of vengeance, no doubt. But a lot of the things he brings up are things i have reacted to myself.

I’ve heard so many horrendous things regarding Rob Chapman that none of this surprises me. Happy to see his guitars being removed from both U.K. and U.S. outlets. I feel so sorry for my friends who have had to deal with him over the years. At least they kept him away from their endorsements. I hope that the dismissal of his brand is a wake up call for him and that he can find the humility to apologise to those most scathed by his actions. It feels a bit inconsiderate to jump on someone with such a fledgling company but at the same time it’s important to conduct yourself humanely; even in business.

Hi, Brad. Prior to this situation blowing up, something bothered me about a statement Rob made in a video he released on 6 Dec about a visit to Thomann entitled "We're going SHOPPING!" th-cam.com/video/FxNEq9sjzyY/w-d-xo.html.
By way of introduction to that video, he says he is window shopping at Thomann for a guitar to replace several guitars he had to sell to buy a car/van in which to take his kid to school. For someone with multiple streams of income from his guitar company, his relationship with Andertons, and his TH-cam channel who claimed in the Forbes article that he could live off the income stream from his TH-cam channel alone, that struck me as bullshit. 'Yeah, right' was my instinctive reaction to that. For me, that's the moment when Rob 'jumped the shark.' I get the feeling he is no longer 'playing authentic.' I wasn't aware of his wife hitting up his fans to pay for a surprise birthday gift of a vocal lesson for him until I saw your video. That doesn't help. I think he has become exploitative of his fans. Chapman-branded toothpaste can't be far off.
You know Ive played in bands( about 30yrs ago) that did charitable concerts where all the proceeds went to charities but we never tooted our horn while we were doing it. We just went out and did it. I will say everyone who bought tickets knew the money would go to charity. And the money went to the charity we said it would. But that was 30 yrs ago . Times have changed since then and people have become more self absorbed since then.

PRS guitar thing reminds me of an incident at work years ago. A fellow employee told of his10 yr old son having cancer treatment. Another employee thought it would be nice if we all donated some money to help out. Boys father comes to work soon after showing /bragging of a new firearm he just purchased. Nothing illegal, immoral or unethical but maybe not the smartest thing to have admitted to, especially to the ones who had recently "helped out". Except in his case he never asked for anything. The more you're in the public eye and making your livelihood from that public ,the more diplomacy and tact you should show. BTW I have a gut feeling this dude has a burr in his drawers as far as the Chappers goes. Ahhh. Social media! You've got to love it. We all make the bed we lie in.
Yep. Funny how you can technically do nothing wrong and still look bad for it. You'd expect a brand ambassador and seasoned TH-cam personality to manage better than a factory worker, but we all have blind spots and we all screw up sometimes, even if it isn't even technically a "screw up". Yeah I don't think that there was any real or intentional misappropriation done. As far as the band is concerned that is likely operating as a separate entity from his guitar brand so monies would be separated i.e. the P.R.S. if purchased was purchased by a different company that he happened to own. You run into problems if you move money from one business to the next with no apparent reason other than you "sit on the board". I think that's what's really going on is just business...not necessarily the best way of doing business but none the less. If for example his company is not a sponsor of the band then last minute funding would make sense to go thru a go fund me acct. I could keep going but I think its pretty straight forward. Again not saying he did not make himself look like a douche I think it's just business and people make douches of them selves every day in business

As a clean-tone, low-volume bedroom player I'm not in synch with Rob Chapman on anything that I'm aware of.
I have heard from a dealer here in the states that Chapman’s have an unusually high defect rate, and the quotas are high and Rob was quite pushy. It’s a bummer to hear that because I’ve met him at NAMM and he seemed nice enough in passing.
I have nothing against Chapman but remember it’s NAMM! Your gonna have to “play nice” when going there especially when they are filming everything for TH-cam.
I have to say, your review of this video was quite good in the fact that you felt very neutral in your conversation about it. I found it so compelling because now days everyone’s internal bias is so blatant in there conversation that nothing seems worth watching. Unless you as a viewer are just trying to fuel your own confirmation bias. I found this so compelling and refreshing. I’m a fan of Rob and idk why this dude needed to come out with this video but I really enjoyed your thoughts on it all. Thank you

The guy's channel appears very well researched and finally is someone who echoed what I've felt for a long time, especially Rob's cheaply made guitars.
Yep. I live in Minnesota. This situation hurt my pals at Riff City. Loved their New Hope location... it’s since closed. Despite the kind letter they penned re: the Chapman brand, I know personally that this has hurt individuals involved. I even still try to support them throughout their liquidation sale, because the Riff City crew were very good & kind to me. I watched Rob for years and supported this store - on the strengths of his character. I even met him in 2017. But, since what transpired... I unsubscribed and basically feel betrayed.
Patrick McManus Chapman was one of many guitar brands sold by RCG. I did everything I could to help them, did you ever see the owners of Schecter, Gretsch, Jackson, or PRS at that store trying to help? Chapman is singled out purely because we were visible.
Joe and his family are friends, at the end of the day some businesses fail.
Rob Chapman In fact, Gretsch did do a PR event there, which I attended. The owner wasn’t there, however, Joe Carducci - their well known PR guy, was. I also won the grand prize a Streamliner guitar. Fender Custom shop folks were also there on another occasion. Reverend CEO also did vids with Joe. So, yes other brands were trying to help Riff City.

Ro Lux I’m not sure if you’re in the USA or UK, but there are plenty of places in the UK (and presumably USA) where you can hire high quality saxophones for a relatively inexpensive fee. Anyway, I wish you luck starting, it’s a lot of fun!
I remember Rob's ALS video. His point was that the Ice Bucket Challenge was putting a narrow spotlight on one charity while there were many other places that he could make a more immediate impact with his giving. Not making an excuse for him but context matters & the criticism on that point seems kind of disingenuous. The follow through may be a different issue but I don't feel that there was a malicious intent. The rest? Sounds like an Irish guy trying to gin up controversy to draw attention to a fledgling TH-cam channel.

I love guitar but I used to be a social worker and they’re just trying to survive a bad situation. He never did it as far as I know because I’m sure he would’ve made a video of it. ALS is far from cured.

Peter Fretes, the gentleman that created the Ice Bucket Challenge, just passed away from that horrible disease a few weeks ago. He and his family did quite a bit to promote awareness and research of that disease.

Randy Mack I think Andy is referring to a comment Riff made on this video. I stumbled across it but don’t think I can find it anymore. They just backed up another commenter saying other brands were doing in-person promos. Chapman wasn’t the only brand trying to “help”, like Rob indicated.

I started watching Rob right when he first started almost a decade ago. I always liked his content but in the last few years I just got sick of him - and of Andertons. All about the guitar company and making money. That's fine - but it isn't interesting to watch. Rob's done very well for himself and that is great because he built his own kingdom - but it's no longer compelling entertainment.

If Im being honest Im glad there is somebody doing these videos cause let's be honest some of the guys are getting a lot of money thrown at them with very little checks and balances.
Some of those criticisms have merit, especially the charitable requests that didn't appear to go anywhere. I just can't understand anyone giving enough of a shit to pay attention to this sort of thing. I can understand if you were personally threatened or attacked, wanting to set the record straight would be totally justifiable. I've enjoyed some RC videos over the years, but I think it's unfortunate that this is what many now aspire towards instead of making great music. That's not a criticism on his running a business, it's certainly a common theme that even world-class artists have to hustle on the business side to make ends meet. But, live and let live and most of those criticisms lack merit. RC should be able to promote his brand in a manner that ensures success, and if that includes what this guy calls clickbait or otherwise non-relevant material, that's in RC's purview.
A level-headed, realistic viewpoint that will unfortunately not get as much attention as it should. This whole thing is complete nonsense.

The only problem with all of this is we validate a tiny channel by giving it attention. That's exactly what he wanted. With barely 500 subs this video really wouldn't have gotten anywhere had it been ignored. Now we give him cred because we're talking about it before it's even relevant.

I used to watch, Andertons and Chapmans videos quite a lot, after a while I noticed 'themes', they always seemed to do comparisons on guitars that Andertons stocked, even though people did ask regularly for other comparisons, also when they did these videos they would state the price of the guitar/gear, but every time I would go on the Andertons website to view the item, it would be 10% more than they stated in the video, I thought it was strange and in one of their videos I commented about why this was so again, they replied with what could only be described as waffle about prices fluctuating in the time it took from the video being made to me looking on the website, when I pointed out that I asked the question the day after the video was released, my initial comment and all replies vanished, also I commented on a chapman guitar that was being pushed by Andertons and Chapman putting in a link of a review I had read about said guitar, they said (as you also pointed out) that some do slip through the net with problems and the one reviewed was just a one off and any other videos knocking the quality would obviously be of different problems, I immediately sent them links to 2 other videos from unconnected reviewers having exactly the same problems with the guitar,,,,,,, and? my post vanished, I for one wouldn't trust Chapman or Andertons as far as I could throw them, but that's just my opinion, how many more have the same opinion? we cant possibly know as they would have comments deleted too, not really something to trust in is it when its ok for them to promote things in the videos but don't react well to any kind of criticism...……………………………… if you look into it more, especially Chapman its obvious, he is full of self importance and self love, he has his opinions but if you have an opinion that paints him in a bad light, that cant be seen...………. ps Brad, if you have reached out to him for a response, you may get one but only after he has thought out a really good response that he says is just off the top of his head and the delay in responding is because he hasn't seen your interactions until now, but the excuse will be feeble (bit like his guitars apparently lol),,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, anyway great videos Brad, keep up the good work.

I disagree with the comment on the scholarship. A scholarship is a gift towards an education, not necessarily an entire full ride (but sometimes is) Yes, he's getting his name out there in turn for that donation, but he's running a business which includes this type of marketing. If I wanted to attend a music collage, I would take anything that helped out shave off some of the total cost.

Subscribers means very little. Chapman's channel have been active for well over 10 years if TH-cam purged dormant profiles (like Twitter) I bet he'd loose a huge percentage of them. Views is all that matters and the guys charts from socialblade show that.
The Waterbear scholarship stuff is a scam. It's like Chapman having a competition to win $500 off a $5000 guitar you can only by from Andertons.

Thank you for posting this video Sir. I was trying to find the vid putting down M. Chapman and I am glad I saw it with your input as added value. What turns me off with this young man's rant is that he smears and openly insults M.Chapman all the while presenting his very own point of view in a condescending and one-way fashion. Now I do not know if M. Chapman was contacted before this bashing video was aired but to me, all of this could have been done with restraint and spot-on professionalism to make it fair and unbiased. As in a trial, both parties bring arguments to the table in a pre-ordained manner and a judge (the public in this instance) renders an educated decision once all points are carefully scrutinized. Otherwise, the exercise is just pure and classic trolling. I have seen M. Chapman's answer and I thought he was quite elegant in the way he responded. Many of you may disagree with my comment but I do believe that there is way too much smearing going on in the internet platform and it would be preferable to see opposing parties approach differences with objectivity. This process enabled me to discover the 'Guitologist' and I subscribed with pleasure. Being a guitarist myself, I am looking forward to an informative and entertaining year when it comes to my personal passion: Playing my instrument. Cheers!

This is Joe. I have tried really hard to be honorable and stay clear of anything about Chapman as we decided to exit the MI business. But Rob has very badly misrepresented the "equitability" of the relationship, his "benevolence" toward us and the fact that he did everything, even "most things" free. This is all a fantasy. We paid for the majority of his expenses on every "Chapman" trip. I think he is saying he did the meet and greets and talks, which he called clinics, for free. Who would think of charging a retailer to show up and promote his own guitars? Rob's expenses were entirely paid and we were charged for the entire video series we did after Andertons moved their videos to that channel. In fact, it was too much, and so we discontinued it because we did not see an ample return for what we were paying. Furthermore the idea that no other brand helped us. Every brand in MI will help their retailers sell their products. We chose to put all of our efforts and money into Chapman because no one else was taking the risk to carry the brand. There was never an exclusive deal. Few were willing to invest in the brand and sales structure. That left us as the only serious retailer in the US. I am very bothered that he can do a video and say these very arrogant - and inaccurate - things publicly at our/my expense to save his skin in light of those videos. That is not what a true friend does to another. He says he is sad...I am sad.

On the topic of clickbait, those are usually videos with ambiguous/mysterious/dramatic titles that have little or nothing to do with the video itself. You're right in saying most youtubers eventually fall into that trap but the difference in KDH's video is that his video was centered around (what he considered) exposing Rob. The titles that Rob (and several other youtbers) was using had little to nothing to do with the content.

Scholarship issue was more about Rob saying "I thought it would be good to give back" as if he were personally contributing. If it was just a partial scholarship (discount) and he did not contribute then he was not being truthful or ethical, business strategies aside.
I didn't really see a problem with that. Maybe he had a deal with the school where he was going to select a few people to get a discount and no money changed hands. He's still making the effort. Also, not all scholarships are full ride. When I went to school, I applied for a lot of scholarships that were for several hundred dollars. They all add up. Even if they're not paying the full tuition, they're better than a poke in the eye.

That PRS came from Andertons - owned by Lee Anderton - his business partner in Chapman Guitars. I very much doubt he paid RRP and it could be a payment for his video's/time at Andertons.

I would imagine that title/job description was given to him by the founder Bruce Dickinson (of the Little Angels) and/or CEO Adam Bushell.
Anyway, the point was that Rob Chapman can recommend Water Bear without necessarily having attended as a student. Its not like he has no knowledge or experience of Water Bear at all - its not like recommending a coffee that you haven't ever tasted...

I was sad to see Riff City go. I got a lot of great gear from them off their webstore. Bought a sweet Reverend, a couple Victory amps and some other odds and ends. It's fair to say they got a decent amount of business from me, particularly considering the fact that they were a brick and mortar operation I lived nearly 1000 miles from. It's worth mentioning that my first purchase from them was one of the first or second run Korean ML-1s. I had no issues with it and even liked it enough to tour with it for a bit. I think it was a raw deal for Riff City. Good breakdown video, don't see the point in giving this dude any more of my time but I'm definitely a new subscriber here.
