If he responded well or just didnt respons at all It would have gone a lot better for him. There's lots of variables involved and for decades before the internet and then GooTube, we were, and still are in large part, subject to the whims of fads and alleged "industry standards". Let’s hear it for Dan for being open and knowledgeable…and for this to be his first interview…surely he meant for this year at NAMM, because he was great!

I have to agree totally and without reservation. Dan did a superb job taking us through the 2023 product line and highlighting the most significant changes Chapman have made and are making. If I owned a guitar company I would want a Dan who can skillfully represent the company and sell guitars without coming across as if he's trying to sell guitars, all while making it look and feel nearly effortless and completely natural, like this one. Props to Dan for hitting the "interview" out of the park and to Chappers for hitting it out of the park by hiring Dan. This video made me love my older ML-3TRAD that I've owned for a couple of years or so since falling into my hands pre-owned at Guitar Center a little more somehow, which is a pretty cool trick from my perspective. Thanks Dan and Rob!
I used to watch Rob via Anderton’s and his own channel like many people. Then he started doing some things that were questionable and damaging, not only to his fans and customers, but was to himself and those around him. I didn’t totally stop watching like so many people who were mad, though, even when KDH showed us all the proof we needed. As an extremely fair reporter, it was KDH’s duty to inform - and he even tried to reach out to Rob for comment to give him a chance to respond and explain and undeservedly got some shit flung back at him just for doing his job. KDH would have done the same type of reporting no matter who it was, as a fair reporter. But anyway, I kept watching Rob’s channel because I was quietly rooting for Rob to overcome his worst enemy- himself. Rob sorta dropped off sometime around the pandemic. He rarely posted anything for a long time. When he popped back onto TH-cam regularly over a year ago, it was like he was a totally new person - still silly, fun old Rob who had matured a great deal and was just looking for a fresh start. I’ve been watching every video since his regular posts resumed. He has a beautiful family and life in Malta. He was going on business trips like visiting Seymour Duncan in the US. He started performing again with his latest band. Above all, Rob seems to have somehow managed to bring Chapman into a really good place (along with his business partners) despite the unfortunate circumstances that have been reported with their factories and guitar builders. Everyone thought Chapman Guitars would flop after Rabea left - but NAMM has proven that they’re in the best place they’re ever been. They have new signature models with some legit bands and guitar players, refreshed lines, and brand new models. They have an amazing team and have been upstanding professionals in everything they’ve done recently. We don’t know what may have been going on in Rob’s life and behind the scenes to lead him to make some crappy choices and behave in a less than fitting manner, but he was never a bad person - we all go through some stuff that sometimes makes us do irrational things, and once we go all in, it’s hard to come back on top. I don’t say going through personal and professional crap is an excuse for his behavior, but it might explain. KDH had to report the facts because that’s what he does here on TH-cam, and maybe it gave Rob pause for thought when things weren’t going so well for him and helped him quietly turn things around for himself and his company. When I heard KDH was also going to NAMM, I knew both would shake hands and play nice . . . I had no doubt of it, in fact. I’m speculating some of the above, but that’s my take based on what I’ve seen. I hope the guitar community will give Rob and Chapman Guitars another chance. I hope that Rob and KDH will turn this into something positive. Maybe Rob can formally apologize to some of the people he hurt online and in real life in his past - he doesn’t owe us explanations, but apologies go a long way. Maybe these two knuckleheads can even work together on some TH-cam projects or have their bands do a few shows together. I would love that, actually.
I agree with what I think you're hinting at. During some of the andertons videos you're talking about, there was some very noticeable signs, giant red flags if you've ever spent time around someone with that issue and jt was clearly impacting his work and life. I do wonder if that's why Andertons split off from him. But it seems like he's got on top of it and is enjoying life. All power to him.

I wasn’t likely closely following him specifically until I found the Anderton’s channel in early 2020. I would imagine that his behavior may have affect his personal and professional relationships - or maybe not. Like I said, he owes us no explanations for whatever he went through. All I know is that I’m glad he seems to be in a much better place these days. It’s wonderful that he got past whatever happened, and hopefully he will continue on a good path and always do the right thing as best as possible from here on out. I have faith that he can do really great things! 👍🏻
Agreed. If you live long enough, you’ll find that there are periods of your own life that you aren’t proud of. I certainly have had those moments (periods of several years) where I wasn’t the person I would have liked to have been. Good on Chapman for taking it on the chin and trying to bounce back.
Rob is at his core just a -dude who loves guitar- used car salesman. I'm sure on some level he -appreciates your critique because it keeps him on his toes- wishes you didn't exist.
Chapman is now working with Guitarmory/Cerberus guitars. I’m friends with the owner and he is one of the best people I’ve had the pleasure of working with. His customer service is second to none. So, when they announced that they’re working with Chapman, I assumed things have improved for Chapman.
Met chapman once at a service station on the M6. Before i knew it id given him my wallet, car, phone and keys to my bedside and felt good about it. Im destitute now but his qirky madcap guitarprenure persona made it all worthwhile.
I met him Rob about 8 years ago at a workshop he did with Rabea. It was a lot of fun and he spent a long time building up the confidence of one or two younger guys that had been through rough patches. I know he got a bit lost in his own ego for a while but he's still done a lot of good. I hope his period of reflection is/was genuine and he prospers as a result and I think he'll be better off for the KDH criticism, in the long run.
You do very fair and honest critiques so for anyone to get mad at you for them would only make them look like a jerk. It’s good that Rob can take it in stride.
You and Rob put past differences aside and started anew. You both set a good example for all of us in how to treat each other. Much respect to both of you!

Yeah, people with Chapman surname seem to have this issue. I've met a man with Chapman surname, who kinda looked like Rob, and projects similar aura as him. Like coming in strong and acting like he's the top man. 😂
Cool of Rob…he’s just a guy trying to make a living like the rest of us. I really like that purple chapman guitar. Chapman has some really cool stuff coming out. I love the Steel Panther one and the Danish Pete one. KDH needs a Chapman signature guitar. That’s the next evolution of this, lol. It would be awesome.

You brought the right microphone with you on your travels, the sound is good unlike other NAMM videos I've seen on TH-cam. And Chapman is a weirdo, that'll never change, but you have to give him credit for being able to keep his composure in front of everyone. He deserves that recognition
I'm not a big fan of in-fighting in the guitar community, we’re small enough as it is! Having said that I thought KDH’s videos on Rob and Chapman guitars were fair for the time. Good to see Rob doesn’t hold grudges and lets bygones be bygones, and is prepared to move on. Good stuff!
Good job interviewing/being on the show floor - I've shot some coverage of some local conventions, and initially planned to interview people and such, but basically got too nervous to do so in the moment. I could see it being easier at Namm, but also more intimidating still.
Definitely like that they're expanding their line... I like some of their prototypes from what was shown... Curious how the India products will be vs the Indonesian builds... 🔥🎸🔥

Nice to see the character development which looks to have taken place with Rob and the Chapman lineup. I was thinking they'd go down the pan with Rob Scallon and Rabea leaving the sig lineup but it's nice to see both the brand and owner taking steps in the right direction. The Chris Robertson sig looks VERY tempting

I met Rob Chapman when he did the whole Chapman Guitar East Coast Tour. I met him, Rabea, Joe (RiffCity Guitars), and Matt. Rob and Rabea were super nice. So was Joe! Rob however was the most talkative to his fans and was so chill. He was out on the floor early just talking to people and seemed genuinely interested in his fans. The first iteration of guitars, I though were solid work horses. I was saving up to get one when all of a sudden (to me) the whole business plan changed. I watched this all go down hill and I no longer wanted anything to do with trying to own a Chapman. Seeing how things unfolded this NAMM, I am a little more open to the idea of getting one. I really hope Rob continues to grow and is that super nice lad I met years ago. That was the Chappers I liked and believed in.
I also met Rob at the show and rather than just a surface hello he spent time explaining how he is able to discriminate tones to such a high degree. You have got to love this guy. He makes our industry better.
Just shows that just because you critique someone it doesn't mean you're sworn enemies for life contrary to what the Internet says these days. Glad Rob has taken what's happened on the chin and grown and matured great to see
Rob Chapman is the most famous Guitar player on TH-cam that I follow and he is one of the few who have answered multiple questions that I directed towards him in comments and when he was touring in the States he would stay until everyone in line was able to get a pic and say hello and wasn’t rushing anyone. This was at the height of his success and when he was displaying some arrogance online, point being he has always appreciated his fans and even at his worst he was always humble and grateful for his fans and that shows more class than most people would. To expect him to be flawless is to hold him to unreasonable standards that none of us could live up to. Rob is a great guy and I am happy KDH also could come to his booth and give a fair and honest reaction and not use it as an opportunity to knit pick and criticize everything. I wouldn’t be surprised if the 2 develop a genuine friendship. If Rob could win over KDH as an ally and a possible advocate it would reflect good on them both and show that KDH isn’t just a hater looking to destroy another man’s reputation and success.

Gotta love it when a company at an unveiling says things like, “it’ll look like this but we’re gonna do some other things to it”, “it might come in this color or even some other colors”, “it only comes in 7 string, but we may make it in other versions, depending on the public” and finally, “it might come in purple, we are working with color pallets now and hopefully those will be on our website in the summer”. As a small business owner this is the prototypical failure of a business. Show up at the trade show, which is to generate pre orders on your product, and don’t have the finished item and specs available. Also, saying it’s going to be made in multiple countries as long as we get comparable quality in manufacturing. Doesn’t give a large box store (Thomann, Sweetwater, Guitar Center, etc) much confidence in preordering or purchasing your products. No bueno man, no bueno.
I will say, I think Rob is a good guy who has made some mistakes. I remember when I was 16, I had just gotten into playing guitar, and I was obsessed with it. I wanted to start my own guitar company and I was a fan of the Anderton’s channel with Rob. I emailed him, telling him about my newfound passion and wanting to start a company. The man actually responded and told me what I would need to do to start a guitar company and wished me luck on my guitar journey. It was really cool for him to take the time to respond to some random fan. I’ve always kept that in mind every time I’ve heard bad about him, even though he has definitely made mistakes.
Fair play to him. Rob is a really nice guy. Obviously the controversy a few years ago didn't show himself in a good light, but I always thought he was a decent guy.
A friend bought a Chapman off of Reverb that is basically a Hot Rod Strat with Seymour Duncan pickups for a little over 500 USD and it’s a killer guitar that is loaded for the price. It’s versatile enough to be the only guitar that you ever need and it’s well built and sounds and feels like a guitar twice it’s price. It is a return to everything good that Chapman started out with and it would be my top recommendation over any guitar in the 500-700 range
When I saw the photo with Rob I nearly didn't watch the video but the comments persuaded me. A nice run down of the range and Rob seemed very pleasant, good luck to him. The guitars seem quite interesting, some nice takes on classic designs.
I gotta say, I LOVE the looks of that first white guitar I think it is the Rich Robinson signature model.I'm a real traditionalist, a Les Paul/Strat/Tele diehard but mannnn, that white thing with all the gold and Gretsch type binding might make me fork out for my first Chapman, because it looks fan-freakin-tastic. Well done!
Your audio audit on Rob obviously hit a nerve as it pointed out things that he thought were long brushed under the carpet. His massive ego at the time made him go straight on the offensive and he thought he could swipe you away into obscurity with his response video. The last thing he expected was pretty much the entire guitar community to turn on him. I’m sure that humbled him and he’s had time to reflect. Cool to see that there’s seems to be no real ill will between you. Still not a fan of Rob, always feel like he’s never far away from another controversial shady crowdfunder but fair play to the guy for not being an ass to you at NAMM.
Yes, I think they both come out of it all better with this - hopefully it'll calm things down in other quarters. I remember they used to say that Brown and Blair got on fine, it was the people working under them that really hated each other. I've seen it happen before.
It's taken Rob a good many years to realize that not all criticism of him is hate, he's still not fully there yet but tbh he has grown up a lot about the whole thing. Maybe he's been humbled enough times. Good to see this interaction now after the old shitstorms in the past.

Hey it’s probably a long shot that you will see this but I am moving to Ireland in the Greystones area, I have recently visited and have been to Everest Music in Bray, who I absolutely loved due to their selection of Japanese guitars at the time, as well as Some Neck Guitars in Dublin, which I hope they still have that 71 competition mustang by the way! I was just wondering what other guitar shops you recommend for someone trying to look for some nice selections of gear? Edit: I’m really happy that two guys in the community can get together and get along despite all differences! Really mature and it makes me happy as hell!

NAMM is a fun time- unless you’re left handed… hard to demo anything when even the big producers choose not to bring any left handed guitars to the show. However, the drum shows, the exhibitions, the meet and greets, and the after party shows are totally fun!
While many of the other influencers didn't bother to go or said that there wasn't anything new at NAMM, you managed to make several informative/entertaining videos. Excellent 👍.

Met chapman once at a service station on the M6. Before i knew it id given him my wallet, car, phone and keys to my bedside and felt good about it. Im destitute now but his qirky madcap guitarprenure persona made it all worthwhile.
I met him Rob about 8 years ago at a workshop he did with Rabea. It was a lot of fun and he spent a long time building up the confidence of one or two younger guys that had been through rough patches. I know he got a bit lost in his own ego for a while but he's still done a lot of good. I hope his period of reflection is/was genuine and he prospers as a result and I think he'll be better off for the KDH criticism, in the long run.

I feel like Rob is a genuine nice guy who at times just tends to make bad decisions in the worst time possible. He doesn't seem like he's mean, I feel like he just acts before he thinks. Wow, sounds a lot like me😅
Yeah, people with Chapman surname seem to have this issue. I've met a man with Chapman surname, who kinda looked like Rob, and projects similar aura as him. Like coming in strong and acting like he's the top man. 😂

Cool of Rob…he’s just a guy trying to make a living like the rest of us. I really like that purple chapman guitar. Chapman has some really cool stuff coming out. I love the Steel Panther one and the Danish Pete one.

I'm not a big fan of in-fighting in the guitar community, we’re small enough as it is! Having said that I thought KDH’s videos on Rob and Chapman guitars were fair for the time. Good to see Rob doesn’t hold grudges and lets bygones be bygones, and is prepared to move on. Good stuff!
Good job interviewing/being on the show floor - I've shot some coverage of some local conventions, and initially planned to interview people and such, but basically got too nervous to do so in the moment. I could see it being easier at Namm, but also more intimidating still.
Definitely like that they're expanding their line... I like some of their prototypes from what was shown... Curious how the India products will be vs the Indonesian builds...

KDH meets Chappers, what a time to be alive. We live in a simulation, that‘s a fact now.
I met Rob Chapman when he did the whole Chapman Guitar East Coast Tour. I met him, Rabea, Joe (RiffCity Guitars), and Matt. Rob and Rabea were super nice. So was Joe! Rob however was the most talkative to his fans and was so chill. He was out on the floor early just talking to people and seemed genuinely interested in his fans. The first iteration of guitars, I though were solid work horses. I was saving up to get one when all of a sudden (to me) the whole business plan changed. I watched this all go down hill and I no longer wanted anything to do with trying to own a Chapman.
Seeing how things unfolded this NAMM, I am a little more open to the idea of getting one. I really hope Rob continues to grow and is that super nice lad I met years ago. That was the Chappers I liked and believed in.

I also met Rob at the show and rather than just a surface hello he spent time explaining how he is able to discriminate tones to such a high degree. You have got to love this guy. He makes our industry better.
If Chapman and KDH can make peace then maybe there's hope for Russia and Ukraine. Just maybe.

Just shows that just because you critique someone it doesn't mean you're sworn enemies for life contrary to what the Internet says these days. Glad Rob has taken what's happened on the chin and grown and matured great to see
Rob Chapman is the most famous Guitar player on TH-cam that I follow and he is one of the few who have answered multiple questions that I directed towards him in comments and when he was touring in the States he would stay until everyone in line was able to get a pic and say hello and wasn’t rushing anyone. This was at the height of his success and when he was displaying some arrogance online, point being he has always appreciated his fans and even at his worst he was always humble and grateful for his fans and that shows more class than most people would.
To expect him to be flawless is to hold him to unreasonable standards that none of us could live up to.
Rob is a great guy and I am happy KDH also could come to his booth and give a fair and honest reaction and not use it as an opportunity to knit pick and criticize everything. I wouldn’t be surprised if the 2 develop a genuine friendship.
If Rob could win over KDH as an ally and a possible advocate it would reflect good on them both and show that KDH isn’t just a hater looking to destroy another man’s reputation and success.

Gotta love it when a company at an unveiling says things like, “it’ll look like this but we’re gonna do some other things to it”, “it might come in this color or even some other colors”, “it only comes in 7 string, but we may make it in other versions, depending on the public” and finally, “it might come in purple, we are working with color pallets now and hopefully those will be on our website in the summer”.
As a small business owner this is the prototypical failure of a business. Show up at the trade show, which is to generate pre orders on your product, and don’t have the finished item and specs available. Also, saying it’s going to be made in multiple countries as long as we get comparable quality in manufacturing. Doesn’t give a large box store (Thomann, Sweetwater, Guitar Center, etc) much confidence in preordering or purchasing your products. No bueno man, no bueno.
Gotta respect the persistence. Looks like Rob is stepping up his game.
I will say, I think Rob is a good guy who has made some mistakes. I remember when I was 16, I had just gotten into playing guitar, and I was obsessed with it. I wanted to start my own guitar company and I was a fan of the Anderton’s channel with Rob. I emailed him, telling him about my newfound passion and wanting to start a company. The man actually responded and told me what I would need to do to start a guitar company and wished me luck on my guitar journey. It was really cool for him to take the time to respond to some random fan. I’ve always kept that in mind every time I’ve heard bad about him, even though he has definitely made mistakes.
It's a power move. If you can't fight against it, go with it and take ownership to defuse you a little. Shoulda stinkpalmed him.

A friend bought a Chapman off of Reverb that is basically a Hot Rod Strat with Seymour Duncan pickups for a little over 500 USD and it’s a killer guitar that is loaded for the price. It’s versatile enough to be the only guitar that you ever need and it’s well built and sounds and feels like a guitar twice it’s price. It is a return to everything good that Chapman started out with and it would be my top recommendation over any guitar in the 500-700 range
When I saw the photo with Rob I nearly didn't watch the video but the comments persuaded me. A nice run down of the range and Rob seemed very pleasant, good luck to him. The guitars seem quite interesting, some nice takes on classic designs.

I gotta say, I LOVE the looks of that first white guitar I think it is the Rich Robinson signature model.I'm a real traditionalist, a Les Paul/Strat/Tele diehard but mannnn, that white thing with all the gold and Gretsch type binding might make me fork out for my first Chapman, because it looks fan-freakin-tastic. Your audio audit on Rob obviously hit a nerve as it pointed out things that he thought were long brushed under the carpet. His massive ego at the time made him go straight on the offensive and he thought he could swipe you away into obscurity with his response video. The last thing he expected was pretty much the entire guitar community to turn on him. I’m sure that humbled him and he’s had time to reflect. Cool to see that there’s seems to be no real ill will between you. Still not a fan of Rob, always feel like he’s never far away from another controversial shady crowdfunder but fair play to the guy for not being an ass to you at NAMM.
Yes, I think they both come out of it all better with this - hopefully it'll calm things down in other quarters. I remember they used to say that Brown and Blair got on fine, it was the people working under them that really hated each other. I've seen it happen before.

It's taken Rob a good many years to realize that not all criticism of him is hate, he's still not fully there yet but tbh he has grown up a lot about the whole thing. Maybe he's been humbled enough times. Good to see this interaction now after the old shitstorms in the past.

Def good when you treat everyone with kindness/respect not alot of people do these days hopefully moving production will allow him to manufacture better instruments.
More than that, it shows a huge level of accountability when people you've fairly criticized are able to accept that criticism and better themselves.

I think KDH is impressed and to be honest with you I believe Rob is glad this all happened. It’s put fire in him and you can see it in him and the guitars.

I was just wondering what other guitar shops you recommend for someone trying to look for some nice selections of gear?

Interesting on the India move. Jackson moved production to India for a little bit, and I mean just for a little bit, because QC was absolutely terrible. Hopefully they’ve gotten things sorted and can put out solid instruments.

Didn’t see that coming . But what I like about their guitars is they take reverse headstock seriously and that’s what I like. Wish more companies offered more reverse models 🤟
NAMM is a fun time- unless you’re left handed… hard to demo anything when even the big producers choose not to bring any left handed guitars to the show. However, the drum shows, the exhibitions, the meet and greets, and the after party shows are totally fun!
While many of the other influencers didn't bother to go or said that there wasn't anything new at NAMM, you managed to make several informative/entertaining videos.
