So the brief story on Rada's and Vicky's is that Rada's was originally owned by a Russian woman named Rada. But she had to return home to family, so she sold the business to Vicky's. They were in two separate locations in Ft. Street Mall but combined after a while to save on rent. That's why they are both together. The original Rada's pirosckis were, IMO, a lot better, but amazing that it's still there! I think at one time, Rada's was also at Ala Moana next to Lyn's Deli.
Oh, that explains a lot! My mom used to rave about those pirosckis when she worked downtown (decades ago). Then one day recently she bought some for us, and I wondered what the fuss was about. Even she was disappointed, but now I can tell her why it wasn't as good as she remembered.
So if someone can look deeper, there was one in Aina Haina in the early 80's right next to foodland. I seriously believe it is the same shop but I was like 10 years old back then.
That pork chop plate lunch and tonkatsu both looked yummy! Will have to remember those next time I'm downtown. Thanks for showing us those hidden gems (and the outtakes were funny in this one too 🤣)!
Nice to see you guys visiting in my daughter's neighborhood, I've walked that area many time! I even tried YiFang Taiwan Fruit Tea's Original Egg Pancakes because of your video and really liked them! Guess my next trip I'll have to try The Lunch Spot and Tonkatsu Sangi, both look really good!
So these baked meat-filled buns have many different names. I know them as Beirock due to the Volga Germans and Mennonites that settled in the Reedley area of California. But they are also called Runza, Pirog, Pirogies, Pirok, Krautbuger, or even Kraut Pirok. Traditionally they have cabbage, sour kraut, ground beef, and salt and pepper to taste wrapped in a dough and baked.
Amanda Felix, love your channel! I’m local but live on the mainland now and I’d love to see a video on local snacks or souvenirs or gifts that people can buy when visiting Hawaii. Besides coffee, macadamia nuts, li hung, I’m interested in seeing what your recommendations are!
love Rada's use to go there back in the 90s after jumping off number 2 bus before heading home for the fried squid and piroscki...Radas use to be next to one fried chicken place where i paid for one plate was like $4...back in the day prices LOL even the piroscki and fried squid was hella cheap...
So pirozhki has a lot of different spellings because there are different regional versions of it. So you will find all different versions of how it's spelled based on the region it is coming from, along with slightly different recipes and preparations. They exist in quite a few regions across the world, Greece, Serbia, Latvia, Armenia, Finland, Iran, Uzbekistan, even Japan and Mongolia to name a few.
And it is likely pronounced almost the same in most regions. For example, my gma's name was Svarz, and it is pronounced the same as Schwartz, and Swartz, Swarts.
Aloha guys 🌺 the best food was the Japanese foods you guys had , the piroshki’s looked a little to heavy , my favorite part is the desert segment Amanda does 👍👍👍
Aloha Amanda & Felix...Have not been to Rada's in years. The size of them seems to be a lot larger than what I remembered. They still looked good though. Fort Street Mall has a lot of cool eateries and sometimes it is great just to wonder down there on the weekday and have a lunch with friends. Another great episode. Keep up the great content. Have an awesome day...
Hey Rick! The current establishment is currently trying to revamp the fort street mall area. Hopefully more awesome eateries to come! Mahalo for watching! 🤙
Haven't been downtown in awhile & it's been longer since have ate from Rada"s. Just FYI...Think Rada's used to be further up from present location, on the opposite side. That beef & chicken piroscki looks Killah!
You might want to avoid putting anything down or sitting on anything in dt esp on ft st mall area. I used to work in 1132 bishop where you were reviewing radas and early in the morning they were hosing down urine and putting kitty litter on the number 2 left by the homeless. The spam musubi at JoJo's couple shops up from ft Street Cafe is my favorite in dt.

Very interesting! Mahalo for clarifying! 🤙
Those original Rada’s piroscki were so good and one of my go to quick foods as an HPU student. Is the Bale sandwich shop still nearby?
@@kevinj8236 Yes, Ft. Street Mall location is still there!

Downtown Coffee has the BEST iced latte I've ever had anywhere. And I'm from the Seattle area. My first time blew me and my mind away!

That’s amazing! So glad this spot is still going strong🤙🏻
$3 is a bargain for such a huge piroscki especially in Downtown. That thing is a meal in itself.
It was massive!!🤤
Next on Amanda and Felix Eats…the mosquito will review the complexities of the unique flavors of Amanda and Felix themselves! 😂
Mosquitos love us 😫 lol
The fried squid from Rada’s is my fave there. You have to dip them in the sauce to cut through the fat of the oil.
Awww we skipped that! Sounds amazing 🤤
Got a 7am flight, see you soon Oahu!
safe travels 🤙🏻

Will try all the places when I go downtown. I am unfamiliar with deep fried pirockis.
