      Sam Pottorff actually hes correct.. she wasn't one of Whitney's influences.. Whitney was so much better than Natalie Cole.

      ChrisGiftofVoice This is the last time I will address this. I read somewhere where Whitney cited Natalie Cole as one of her many influences. I was surprised too, but I don't go around making crap up! I swear all many of you want do on these sites is argue. It is really old at this point!

    • @ChrisGiftofVoice
      @ChrisGiftofVoice 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sam Pottorff if you honestly think natalie was better than Whitney then you know nothing about vocal talent and ability. FACT. and this is the last time I will address this to you.. Whitney far surpassed Natalie as a vocalist and performer. Whitney did like Natalie Cole and her music... but trust me the reality that she was a better singer. let's appreciate Natalie for who she was ...a talented good singer nowhere near the Legend Whitney Houston.

    Such talent. Both gone far too soon. It makes me sad that the real singers of the world are leaving us and we're left with nothing but auto tuned wannabes. Oh well, at least there are clips like this to revisit.

    All this fussing and arguing over who was the best. Just enjoy the music like these two obviously did. They were friends and I don't think either was trying to out do the other just enjoying singing together. They both have great voices different but great in their own unique way.

    At 4:14 was Natalie using her mixed voice and Whitney using her chest voice ?

    • @nunyabiz3668
      @nunyabiz3668 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that was the difference in their technique. Whitney was very chest dominant with upper belts. Being chest dominant (in the 80s when her tesitura was higher) allowed for a better sound but her timbre and range dropped after the 80s

    Natalie Cole was so underrated. She should've been up there with the big voices as well like Aretha, Nippy, Mimi, Chaka, Patti, Celine, Yolanda, etc... She was so effortless in this performance just having fun.

    • @Vwjl1207
      @Vwjl1207 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Never understood the underrated part. 9 time Grammy Award winner. Jazz, soul, Christmas, Great American Songbook and Spanish albums. PBS specials. Duets with some of the greats like Johnny Mathis, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Andrea Bocelli, Placido Domingo and many others. A couple of best selling books. Was an actress in movies. Sang at the White House. I'd say she was definitely a super star.

    • @attyjosh
      @attyjosh 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Vwjl1207 as a vocalist she is underrated. She has a big voice (not a loud belter) but she used to go toe to toe with the big voices before and did it so effortlessly and YET her name never comes out when people talk about the great vocalists of all time.
