Yeah that was the difference in their technique. Whitney was very chest dominant with upper belts. Being chest dominant (in the 80s when her tesitura was higher) allowed for a better sound but her timbre and range dropped after the 80s
Natalie Cole was so underrated. She should've been up there with the big voices as well like Aretha, Nippy, Mimi, Chaka, Patti, Celine, Yolanda, etc... She was so effortless in this performance just having fun.
Never understood the underrated part. 9 time Grammy Award winner. Jazz, soul, Christmas, Great American Songbook and Spanish albums. PBS specials. All this fussing and arguing over who was the best. Just enjoy the music like these two obviously did. They were friends and I don't think either was trying to out do the other just enjoying singing together. They both have great voices different but great in their own unique way.

Yeah that was the difference in their technique. Whitney was very chest dominant with upper belts. Being chest dominant (in the 80s when her tesitura was higher) allowed for a better sound but her timbre and range dropped after the 80s

Natalie Cole was so underrated. She should've been up there with the big voices as well like Aretha, Nippy, Mimi, Chaka, Patti, Celine, Yolanda, etc... She was so effortless in this performance just having fun.
Never understood the underrated part. 9 time Grammy Award winner. Jazz, soul, Christmas, Great American Songbook and Spanish albums. PBS specials. Duets with some of the greats like Johnny Mathis, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Andrea Bocelli, Placido Domingo and many others. A couple of best selling books. Was an actress in movies. Sang at the White House. I'd say she was definitely a super star.
@@Vwjl1207 as a vocalist she is underrated. She has a big voice (not a loud belter) but she used to go toe to toe with the big voices before and did it so effortlessly and YET her name never comes out when people talk about the great vocalists of all time.
