  • FEATURED LOCATION: Kane'ohe Bay, O'ahu, Hawai'i.
FEATURED SPECIES: Striped Mullet ('Ama'ama), Catch And Release Threadfin (Moi), Bandtail Goatfish (Nightmare Weke).
Hawaiians often fished the island shorelines after the sun went down. It was called "Lama Lama" and the fishermen used lit torches to assist with this type of "sight fishing". Eventually this activity was referred to as "torch fishing" or just "torching".
Today's technology allow us to improve on many aspects of this recreation. Underwater lights, electric motor, casting nets made with monofilament and more are all serious upgrades!
Net throwing is considered to be a traditional Hawaiian way to harvest fish. But the truth is that this art form was learned from those fishermen who immigrated to the islands from Japan!
This is one of the most favorite pastimes for many of my friends. When you combine fishing with hunting, you get this!

I love how sturdy the fish our out in Hawaii... you touch a trout and it dies.. so sad.

That pretty much describes the difference between freshwater fish and saltwater ones.
