    Turned out nice Eric, too bad you could't film it in the sun for everybody to see. Lots of people ask me how long it lasts.... I usually put on just 1 coat per year to keep it looking great. Some people put it on their painted metal surfaces but personally I wouldn't do it unless it was in very bad shape and had nothing to lose- and then only light colors. This is 3 RV's I've used it on and couldn't be happier with the results.

      Campervan Kevin ..
      This might be a negligible difference in things, but it seems that a good shine could actually help reflect some heat. Since you are a long time user of this, have you noticed anything in that aspect?

      Any idea if this would be OK to apply to an RV with full body paint (black & brown primary colors)?

    • @salinemichigan904
      @salinemichigan904 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I did it too on a '00 highly oxidized motorhome. I did about 8 coats but it looks AMAZING! I wondered if I needed to recoat (add a layer) every year or if I needed to strip the entire thing and redo?

    • @CampervanKevin
      @CampervanKevin ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@salinemichigan904 I had seen no reason not to just apply 1 coat every year. Sometimes I cleaned the rv with too harsh a chemical and lost some of the coats... so the one coat per year worked great for me and I found it to be enough

    Great job!
    Eric your channel, along with 'Prepper' Wayne and Kevin, sure help teach others lots about maintenance and repair. You have apologized at times for the 'down time' to take care of things with your RV, but honestly no apologies necessary cause you are teaching us what the realities of nomadic life is really like. Taking the good along with the bad, that's just part of living. Thank goodness for good friends who help us along in the bumpy times!
    Thanks Eric and Kevin!

    Thanks Eric, for the hint about the floor wax. Another "secret" with Zep products from Home Depot is the Acidic Toilet Bowl Cleaner is it will remove the yellow from the fiberglass. We use it on boats all the time and customers think we use magic to get them so clean and white. Unfortunately you would have needed to do this before the wax coating. :( But in time if the wax will wear off you might have a chance to try it out.

    I Zepped my rig about a year ago and it looked amazing for the entire year! (or so I thought) About 6 months ago, even though my rig still had a shine, I noticed a few small areas that would not come clean. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago... I was removing and replacing all of the old decals, and it then became blatantly obvious how much dirt had become embedded in the Zep. I couldn't tell until I removed the old decals, but the entire Zep wax job had become dingy and embedded with dirt. Some areas were worse than others, but the entire rig was affected. My only option was to strip the entire thing with the Zep floor stripper and do it the 'right way'. It took me three days to get it all off, then compound and wax it properly. It now looks better than it ever did by doing it 'the right way'! There's always a trade off, when taking the 'easy way', but I'd rather take one day a year and do it right than to go through all that headache again! I will NEVER Zep my rig again!!!

      Plastic is not listed as being ok to use on the bottle.... But it also does not say fiberglass is ok, and as you can see, many people us it on their RV. So, I'm not sure. It didn't hurt anything to apply to the window seals on my attempt. But I can't promise it's "OK"

    Hey Eric, that is what i used on my motor home, after the first coat i thought what
    the hell did i do?? The first coat did not look good, then i just continued working my way around the RV like i was on a race track (left turns only) and after about a case of beer and 5 coats I was done. It came out nice!! But never again would I apply it in real hot weather. Great stuff!! Your RV looks great. :)

I was just curious if you had ever thought about remodeling the interior of your camper and if you had how would you change the layout inside? Looks really nice ! My husband loves everything clean and has tried lots of products. He said to tell you to try putting Simple Green in a plastic sprayer (from walmart) Once it is sprayed on the RV, try a pole brush to wash the RV. Then wash it off with water. This would save you time over using the tiny little scrubber. Hope this helps !

    OH MY GOD. I looked at the rv forums for an idea of what to use for wax on the side of my rv. I used the ZEP shiny, heavy duty floor wax. 3 coats on the side of my truck camper. A little streaky, but ok, and was so shiny. 3 years later, trying to remove the original ZEP wax was like taking barnacles off the USS Constitution with a plastic knife. The ZEP remover is good, but the mixing suggestion was totally inadequate on a vertical surface. Went over once, and the bucket water was black. Ok, but when it dried it looked awful with wax residue the first scrub loosened. Got another gallon, went 1:1, with HOT water. Took 2 more scrubbing with a wand brush with plastic bristles. Rinsed about every 10 or so sq. feet, to minimize anything left. Water was still black, not as bad. So the original brush bucket black was the wax being rinsed off. Anyway, the wax is actually pretty good, but getting it off is like trying to get your 25 year old out of the cellar. This product is VERY GOOD, but you will need to do multiple scrubbing. Pity the person who puts 7-8 coats on their rv like a couple of YT videos advise.

  • @rjt67

    Looks great guys, but with anything, it keeps better with what you wash it with. Do NOT wash it ever again with liquid dish detergent, that with just strip off all the wax you put on. Go buy car wash soap (Turtle Wax, Rain Dance, etc.) that way the soap will not strip off all the wax and your hard work.
    Keep up the great work with the videos. Someday I hope to be out on the road traveling around like you are doing.

    Looks great Eric. I use a 50/50 percent bleach and water solution in a pump up sprayer and spray it on my rvs to get the black water stains and tree sap and streaks off.You can just watch the years of grime and stain start running off a light rubbing is all that is required for the most stubborn stains. It strips the wax but has never hurt my clear coat or even the sticker style striping. Then applied the zep and looks great. Just my experience.

  • @stevemclean5787
    @stevemclean5787 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So how did you apply the wax to the RV? Did you spray it on the wipe to even it out or did you dunk the towel in a container of wax and bring it out. You didn't say a word about the process which is fairly important.
    Looks good.
    Please edit the video with an addon that tells or shows how you got the wax onto the RV

    Personally I would have tried a fine fibreglass cutting compound first to get rid of the yellowing followed by a boat wax and would recommend not using sandpaper on it as a scraper blade would remove the excess silicone above that grill. Looks a lot shinier though and will probably help to stop it getting so dirty and ensure that the water flows off better.

    I've used that floor wax a few times on my 2008 5th wheel and like the results. The only problem is you may get only a year or two out of it before it will need to be done again. And there lies the problem, when it needs a do over its a real pain in the butt to get all the old wax off. You will spend days trying to get the old yellowed wax off, which is a must before a re-coat.
    It does look great though:-)

    First time I used this. During the night it rained. what I saw in the morning was a milky colored residue had formed and ran down the side of the RV. As the surface dried in the morning, the residue disappeared and the shine returned. What gives?

    I bottle of Zep = Like new RV! Good to know. Thanks for the tip. Let us know when you need to do a touch up. I would love to know how long this lasts. Crossing my fingers it's only once a year.

    Looks awesome! Never would’ve thought to use floor wax on an RV. Great tip. Thanks for sharing Eric.

    ZEP (natural citrus) Degreaser (Orange bottle) is also phenomenal... been using it for years!

    Your RV was just Oxidized,should of got some cut and buffed it then add a coat of wax,It would of brought back the shine plus brought back the original White color like the cab.Cut would of removed all the grease and grime at the same time as well,just a heads up for next time brother,love what you do.

    As much as I have disliked Zep products over the years I guess I will have to give it a try . On my class B , I only have the roof to do . I imagine the front of cabover and front of body behind doors will be much easier to clean . When I had my class C , if I remember correctly it was 90% bugs . It is amazing how bug splatter is like a two part epoxy after baking in the sun .
