It’s fantastic to know that people of a younger generation want to keep this great music genre alive. I was born in 1946. The groups were my life. Not only as a big fan but also as singing bass in an acapella group.
@@jimgag2 I also sang in an acapella group back in the sixties usually doing first tenor or inverted baritone. I'm 75 now and still listen to as much acapella as I can find. I sing along doing the various harmony parts, and almost nothing else gives me as much joy as doing that. It's in my blood forever.
It is amazing that two groups unaware of each other both took a street corner harmony exercise of three chords that we called church harmony for some reason, and made into two good but completely different songs, amazing!!!Some one even recorded our version with music, The Reminisence Eddie Black The Five Sharks
Exactly what I say too, Peter. So happy to have been born in the early 40's to hear all this fabulous music in my teenage years. I'm still a HUGE fan of doo-wop.
Now this what I call blow-harmony at it's best. When the harmony is "tight" with a lead as on this song, you can't ask for any more. This is good shit!
Neighbors Complaint was an outstanding acapella group out of Philadelphia. It's a shame they broke up. They had some great singers, Bobby Murphy, Harry Schmidt and Fast Eddie doing his incredible bass. I especially remember Push Button Automobile (Medallions) and Your Promise To Be Mine (Drifters) from them sung simply spectacularly. Oh, and Lucille also from Clyde McPhatter and the Drifters. Absolutely loved their sound!!
--FANTASTIC-Eddie Blacks Group-"The Five Sharks"With Steve Horn Doing Bass--Also From The Bronx--Did A "Flame" Song At The Same Time This Was Done--Both Versions Are Great---
This originally was a street corner exercise called flames or church harmony it consisted of simply ooh , ah and the word flames set to a haunting chord progression of C E F C,we wrote words to it and recorded it in 1964 and updated it a bit higher and slightly faster in 1966, This song was recorded in 1992, about 27 years after ours, What a great sound they completely re imagined it with their own words and knocked it out of the ball park. Eddie Black, first tenor /lead The Five Sharks
For everyone who loves this group, there a 1983 UGHA tape of them singing this one and more that's great. The Flame starts somewhere around 14:00. th-cam.com/video/fWOlr4eqNj0/w-d-xo.html

I was born in 1988. I am determined to be a part of the new generation to keep this beautiful music alive...

It was my great fortune to be born in the 40's and come of age to appreciate this wonderful music. I could listen to this for hours.
Exactly what I say too, Peter. So happy to have been born in the early 40's to hear all this fabulous music in my teenage years. I'm still a HUGE fan of doo-wop.
Every time I hear this I get chills. One of the best accapella songs ever.
