For almost 20 years RØDE has designed and manufactured professional audio products from its headquarters in Sydney, Australia. As one of only a small number of microphone companies to manufacture outside of low cost labour regions, RØDE relies on passionate and innovative product design, combined with precision automation and state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques to bring its products to market.
This ideology is encapsulated in The RØDE Difference. It represents an ethos that sets RØDE apart amongst its pro audio peers.
Join RØDE Microphones' President & Founder, Peter Freedman, as he personally guides you on an intimate tour, showing and explaining the company's innovative manufacturing techniques and processes that were once closely guarded trade secrets.

Before I retired I worked on ISO 9001 QA. Not the rubbish that passed for QA if you wanted to sell stuff to the government but the real stuff that took months and months of testing. Customer supplied product, purchasing, process control, non conformance control, Handling Packaging, storage and delivery, design control and a heap of other stuff that had to integrate and work seamlessly (mostly).
One of the 'tells' of a company that's doing it right is that when something goes wrong and a customer has an issue with the product, the company grabs the customer, sits him or her down and gets to the root cause of the matter, then if there is a valid problem, instigates procedures to circumvent further problems. I know the Rode does this because they did it with me... AND they gave me a new mike. An NTG-1 I think. It gives me a good feeling when a company does that. Shows REAL professionalism. Rode puts their money where their mouth is. And that is the best advertising there is. If somebody asks me what brand of microphone to buy, I just say: " Talk to RODE. Don't argue about how much it costs. Just get it. Rode are there for the long run and they don't make junk.

Hi, looking for some information about differences between K2,NT2000,NT2A,etc. On your web there are specs, but not real recommendations, eg. if that one is better for piano or for man's voice or for brass..... it would be very useful :) Do you have video on that or some web "decisioning app"? ;) Thanks

I’ve got probably a dozen or so Rode products, from the Rodecaster Pro, several mics, several wireless kits and various cables and adapters. Nothing made by Rode has ever let me down, either in quality or reliability. Rode’s stellar reputation is well-deserved and now I can see why!

The first Rode microphone I bought so impressed me sonically that I got rid of all my other mics. At 50' (2 mounted) I recorded a big band in a large hall. The recording came out sounding like a 48 channel mix. I could hear the drummer's hi-hat as though I had a mic 3 inches from it. Very impressive product and now after seeing the video above I realise that my senses were not lying to me. It was very precise sound :)

I see a man possessed, obsessed and driven to madness by his desire to make microphones of ultimate quality. No compromise. No corners cut. No tolerance for error. Not even a hair. I think only God can make a more perfect microphone than Mr. Freedman. He displays totalitarian confidence in all his products even at a molecular level. He seems to have transcended the basic norms of microphone manufacturing and brought everything to the highest level humanly possible. It's almost spiritual watching him present his unique methods. Always pushing beyond the limits of human precision. His company appears to be light years away from the rest. And I ask myself the question.... why do the other companies manufacture overseas and not in house. Why entrust the company name to another obscure factory outhouse? Do they actually care enough to provide their customers with the same commitment to quality as Mr Freedman has? I think everybody in the world wants to make a buck. But Rode are out to give the BEST product they can in return for our hard earned money. I think THAT IS THE RODE DIFFERENCE.

Eddy Absolutely! Freedman is like the Vince McMahon of microphones, love it. Huge confidence, tremendous knowledge and with the price to performance ratio his mics have, a ruthless business acumen. He knows he'll sell high volume at the prices he offers & has the balls to take the risk. My NT1-A is an incredible mic for the money. Is it a Neumann U87? No. But it's quality is such that it makes you seriously consider having half a dozen or more NT1's or just 1 Neumann. And unless it is on an acoustic guitar/vocal song, impeccably recorded, I don't know if most musicians could tell a NT1-A from a U87.

I'm absolutely blown away with the quietness of the NT1 condenser mic. It's given me a newfound confidence in the studio that other mics have failed to do. If your looking for value for money, and the BEST quality, then I don't know how you could ever go past a RODE microphone. I'm so impressed with my mic, and have really enjoyed watching this video.

He's got a real Steve Jobs (or maybe Jony Ive) vibe to him. He values quality more than anything, he knows what he's talking about, and he backs up everything he says. I have a K2, which I absolutely love, and a matched pair of NT5s, which I just bought recently in large measure because of how much I love my K2. I trusted RØDE as a brand before seeing this video, and I trust them even more now.

i've made some lavalier mic with high quality capsule, for reasons capsule is machined all sound not too vary but when I assembled it, sound vary from piece to piece, and I can tell you that made this product with precision is really hard. Neumann ,Sennheiser made product sound authentic but acually hard to control quality over labor so price is higher. you rock me Rode fantastic jobs!!!!

Now I have finally understood why and how you have managed to supply such high quality microphones at such a low cost. You can plainly see why decent microphones cost a bit more.
You can churn out microphones for pretty next to nothing. However there's no guarantee that capsule will be in spec. That's no good if you care about sound. You can see the passion and care rode goes to make a rode microphone. That is indeed the difference.

Just to add I have recorded using M5's overhead the drum kit with my Jazz trio in my home studio. What an amazing pure sound!!! No collor, just there, all overtones, had to muffle lots of harmonics because of such spectrum. My double bass was so there, sa we were all in one live room. I am stunned with such quality for an affordable pair of cardioid condensers.
I am sure they will sound as good from the double bass to the violin, and spanish guitar as well. They seem to be quite versatile. I am stunned.

Back in 2011 i bought an ntk package, with the case,i noticed something boucing around in the capsule,it seemd like there was a broken peice of harden yellow glue, almost rock like, and thank god my capsule with me moving it around to wonder what the hell it was didn't get damaged,i did in fact take it apart and got it out ,and i carefully cleaned my diaphram with a swiffter duster, since it was a bit dusty maybe from particuls from the gule, dont worry it was fine, and almost also drop the capsule too lucky it had a sort of locking head, could have been a big mistake wrecking it ,anyway my point is i'm not mad about this, but getting something for the first time from this company, i was suprized and i know this could happen, just want to mention it thanks.

I like this video! Nice work! It's great to get some insight into the company and it's owner. RØDE mics are definitely on my purchase radar now, for the simple fact that the company owner absolutely stands behind his product.

Great to see a ceo with such dedication and such authentic pursuit of quality. Glad for the three mics I've got from you, feeling a bit guilty about my akg's now ...

Epic! I love the NT1-A. I've heard the NT-4 stereo mike. I ddon't get it. It's very flat. If it had the crispness of the NT1-A and if it were wider oh man the epicness. So how does the NT1-A do with out doors? I've been hearing singing and music into them and stuff. But I like recording out doors. Recording cars people out and about birds and what not. Just the outside stuff.

I loved your video. I just bought the Rode NT USB mic for my computer at home but I'm wondering what out in the field mic you would recommend for interviews with my iPhone 6 Plus and My iPad Air 2. Thank You.

    Wow now I`m inspired.
I own small filming studio and yesterday VideomicPro came to me and. After watching this, I look at my mic a little more proudly :)
I have one question tough - are you thinking about making mic for Hollywood purposes ?

Buen vídeo, y buena ingeniería! pero me ha faltado ver la importancia del equipo humano que hay tras todo eso... // Good video, and good engineering! but I have failed to see the importance of the human team behind all that ...
