From 15:24 until 18:14 is so (musically) amazing, that I absolutely forgot what I was looking after (NT1-A). What a masterpiece / rendition, wow!
From the instructional point of view, the vid is really enlightening. Thanks a lot for it.

Everyone on here is complaining about if the vocals are mixed. I would rather hear how it sounds mixed- in actual use- in a track.. because that's how you're gonna use it at the end of the day. Also they never claimed that's the mics natural sound- they're just showing us a video of tricks to use.

Wow, what an amazing gem of an old skool video. The black and white off camera cutaways are classic. These guys look as classic Aussie as it gets and I love how he drops Kovak's (spelling?) name, the owner of the studio. I never met him but heard a lot of good things about him being the man ten years ago when I studied audio engineering in Sydney.

Just bought it today, i managed to record just a glimpse because i had to fix a few glitches with the sound interface, undust my old laptop, re install the windows, install some software etc etc... and after an entire day i heard a sound just like in real life, clear, natural. Im satisfied, good job guys even after 10 years.

WOW! This is what you call a demonstration. Kudos to Camille and Stuey for putting this together. I’m n the process of purchasing a Rode mic for the locker. Been hearing a lot about it. I see this video been around for quite some time too. Nonetheless I’m liking the sound of her voice on this mic.I’m listening on studio monitors and headphones and it sounds so clean and rich. Actually I’m looking into getting the NT1 and not the NT1 A. Both have different characteristics but damn!! The NT1A sounds good especially with female vocals. I heard a great demo with the NT1A and was sold but now I’m stuck behind a rock and a hard place. What the hell I’ll get both see which one sounds good on my voice and other artists and go from. I was sold just because of the track Camille demonstrated. Is that song available? If so where can I purchase it from. Keep up the good work.

@Foreverwhatever69 - Congratulations on the new NT1-A! The NT1-A (as with almost all studio condenser microphones) requires a +48v phantom power source. The Lexicon Alpha unfortunately does not supply phantom power at all. Phantom power is usually supplied on most audio interfaces, although if you google 'phantom power supply' you should find plenty of external phantom power supplies that you will be able to use with the Lexicon Alpha. With that you should be up and running in no time at all!

I've got BOTH! BOTH are very different mics imo! I bought the 420 a couple of years ago and maybe have ONLY used it a handful of times - MOSTLY b/c I'm so used to the NT1-A's sound and can get my sound where I want to faster with it!
The 420 is a nice mic that, I'm sure, has/can get wonderful results (as I have when I've toyed with it a bit)! I just hooked my 420 back up today and am tweeking it to find the sound I want...it's work...but that's how it goes in music.

I can't tell if it's the differences in their voices or the way they EQed them, but when she was singing I could hear the main complaint that people have about this mic. It was a little to bright and the sibilance was just a bit much except when she was singing off axis. I didn't hear any of that when Mitchell was singing, so it could just be her. I love that off-axis trick. It works great for me when doing narration or audiobooks. I can get close without having trouble with sibilance, which is an issue for me. I'd like to study how Mitchell does his "S"es. With a word like "wasted" or "tasted" where you have an "s" and a "t" right after each other, I'd expect a lot more sibilance from the NT!a. I sure do love mine, and these tips are a great help. There's also the pencil in front of diaphragm trick. That works, too.

The NT1-A and NT2-A are both very different microphones. THe NT2-a has the added control features, with polar pattern switching, high pass filters and attenuation switching. This circuitry means that the NT2-A is a little more versatile in the studio, but also means that the NT2-A is not as quiet as the NT1-A. Check out the RØDE Soundbooth on our website, where you'll be able to compare the microphones and find which mic is best for you.

There was a transom dot org microphone shootout I found last night with blind listening samples. I listened to over a dozen mic's and ended up picking 3 initially but then narrowing it down to 2. The first one I liked but later discarded in favor of the other 2 was the Neumann U-87. (remember this was a blind listening test) The second was an AKG C3000 which was an intimate microphone sound, but the one I picked ended up being an NT1a for having a smooth but warm frequency response, detail etc.

My first Rode mic was an NT1-A. I found it a touch sterile on vocals. It's great for micing up drums as an overhead or a metre in front of a kit aimed toward the snare. My next Rode mic was an M2. A great handheld stage condenser at a bargain price. I still have those mics and they get a lot of use. My main vocal recording mic is an NTK, it's unbeatable, and I have two Rode M3s which I use in conjunction with large diaphragm condensers as drum overheads to bring out the cymbals better.

Just did some female vocal tracking with the NT2A, and the sibilance was a struggle to deal with in the mixing stage. Going back to do additional tracking, and I will be trying the singing in the side technique. She's looking at the lyrics with a lap top, and that's the other reason I'm going to be using the singing in the side technique.

Hi. Your video impressed me as I am looking for a decent but not overly expensive condenser microphone and stumble upon NT1-A. I am planning to get one for my hobby. I know all condenser mics need phantom power, and thus I am guessing it needs a mixer. Other than that, in order for me to record it on my computer, do I need any other equipments? FYI, My laptop does have audio, mic and line-in port. Does the 10 years warranty covers for those who bought overseas? TQ

After that, for vocals at least - it's all about EQ, reverb and other plugins to taste (de-esser, light compression, chorus/double tracking the vocals etc.)
Let's not forget that a quality mic preamp will do great things to your vocal (and other) recordings.
Even the best mics don't sound great out of the box, it's all a combo of good recording technique, good acoustic space to record in, the signal path/preamps that before output, and effective mixing/production of the recording itself.

  • @PabloDeMode
    @PabloDeMode 11 ปีที่แล้ว

I agree. I have this one and when I record it does sound crystal clear, but then when I try to mix it on my DAW... Then the show begins: if I am too close, I have a lot of low frequencies I have to filter with the EQ, then I lose the "body"; if I am too far, I sound better but thin. No matter what I do, using the baritone range or a higher one. I tried in the middle and it works the closest, but again, after lots of processing on my DAW. But with all I think it's a very good mic. Test first.
