  • Have you ever wondered how to clean your Le Creuset enameled cast iron Grill Pan? This information can also apply to our Signature Skillets with satin black interiors. Check out our suggestions below, and visit our website for more details: bit.ly/31vJH3D.
    - Grill pans and skillets can be washed with regular soap and water, and our grill pan brush (bit.ly/3fXgbct) is also extremely helpful for removing stuck-on food. There is no need to oil or season your pan before its first use.
    - The pan’s interior will develop a patina over time, as a result of the natural oils and fats from foods baking onto the hot surface. The patina should not be scrubbed off, as eventually it will enhance cooking performance, allow for better release of foods, provide easier cleanup, and reduce the need for surface oiling.
    - Our cast iron cleaner (bit.ly/31Tx6HH), a paste of baking soda and water, or a product like Bar Keeper's Friend can also assist in removing tough stains on the interior or exterior of the pan. Use these items sparingly on the interior, as they may remove some of the patina as well.

One thing that I noticed by accident was that giving the interior of the pan a wipe with olive oil helps during subsequent cooking. Because the rim of the pan is exposed iron, I'd give it a quick wipe, after drying, with a paper towel and a bit of olive oil. A friend wanted to know what my 12" fry pan looked like, I gave the rim and interior of the pan a quick wipe with the olive oil so the black inside would look fantastic in the photo. The next time I used it, the food seem to release more easily. I used the pan and washed as I used too and it seems to have a little more stick. I washed, dried and wiped down with a little olive oil and again it was better.
I don't use as much olive oil as I would with my Lodge skillet - which I love because it is a beast of a pan and I don't mind using on the BBQ or in the smoker - just a touch to make it shine a little.
I use my pans regularly, so I'm not sure how this would work for a pan that is used infrequently. One upside though is the black interior of the pan looks super gloss black and better than the day that I got it from the Le Creuset outlet store.

My first set of Le Creuset Flame dates back to 1981. There is a trick to keeping the black interior surface shiny & bright and I’ve tried everything, even the brand bottles cleaner which is worthless. After I cooked and followed the book on how to use the pieces, the interior gradually lost its coating, especially the 4 quart Dutch oven with the beige enamel coating. I’ll try to exchange through company warranty program but last time I did that, I had to pay $175 for the alternative size and wasn’t thrilled to do that. Just resorting to fact it will never be like new, no matter what methods I use or else thinking of selling it all online.

I’ve had my grill pan for 6 years and it has burnt oil in between the griddles that has built over time. Can you recommend how I can clean this? I have tried bicarb soda, vinegar, hot water & lemon & a lot of elbow grease. It has removed some of the burnt residues but not all. Any suggestions are appreciated!

deglaze your pan first while it's still warm. Put some water in the pan, let warm up, use a non-metal spatula to scrap off loosened bits as much as possible, then scrub with non-scratching scrubber. Try a Scrub Daddy it gets in between the grooves nicely.

I got a Le Creuset iron pan lately and could I reconfirm:
Does it mean it safe to use soap or detergent for cleaning (i see not much people recommending cleaning an iron cast pan with soap/detergent)?
Furthermore, do it need to rub some eatable oil on the surface after cleaning?

Hi! We have a cleaning product that works great for stains on the interior or exterior of our cast iron items: www.lecreuset.com/cast-iron-cookware-cleaner-1. A paste of baking soda and water (or a product like Bar Keeper's Friend) can also assist in removing the occasional tough stain - let sit for a few hours or overnight, then wash it off. Make sure to scrub with the textured side of a regular sponge, and avoid using steel wool, metal tools, or anything too abrasive. I have found that you really have to make sure the stove top is very clean, otherwise it does get that look. I have a white one and I made the mistakes very early one and it never came off even with the le creuset cleaner. My second one (red) I have been way more careful about cleaning the stove prior to using the pan and that's been the key

@@eduardovalle2782 Yes, I think that is right. I also never cleaned the older Le Creuset pots on the bottom but I do that with the newer ones and everything comes off easily. So I think it is necessary to clean them every time you use them - inside out and then they look like new even a couple of years later.

I'm having the same issue with my le Creuset cast iron pan as Julie Nguyen's comment below. I have ZERO problem when cooking with butter. When I use oil, like grapeseed oil with a high smoke point on medium heat, the oil BAKES to the pan unevenly. THIS IS NOT THE PATINA le creuset is talking about - these are sticky spots of oil that cake together and DO NOT clean off. In fact, they tear my sponge apart. Further, it messes up the whole pan's surface and it is no longer non-stick like it was when I was using butter. Finally I am not using it on anything higher than medium heat on a gas stove which is the same heat I am using for butter. I would appreciate further direction from Le Creuset on how to clean this because I'm sick of not being able to use oil on my pan and seriously considering getting another pan.

HI there, thank you for reaching out. We're so sorry to hear about this, and we can definitely give you some tips. Reducing the heat should solve most of these problems - you'll likely only need low or low/medium heat at most, since the black interior of this pan naturally retains so much heat. Allow the pan to heat empty for a few minutes over low or low/medium, then add the oil after that (this is the opposite of our pieces with cream-colored interiors, which should never be heated dry). Check out our blog for lots of suggestions for cleaning: www.lecreuset.com/how-to-clean-a-grill-pan.html. If you continue to encounter issues after that, please feel free to contact our customer support team for assistance: www.lecreuset.com/contact-us/contact-us.html. Thank you!

Hi there, thank you for reaching out. We can definitely give you some tips to help with this. First, you'll typically only need low/medium heat for most recipes. Make sure you're using enough oil/ butter to cover the pan, and allow it to fully heat through until the oil is shimmering before adding food. It also helps to take and meat out of the refrigerator 15-20 minutes before cooking, so it can come up closer to room temperature and prevent sticking. Finally, be patient! Allow the food to develop a good sear and release naturally before flipping it - you should be able to see the edges start to slightly lift off the pan on their own before you try to move it. Please visit our website for more info: www.lecreuset.com/care-and-use.html and www.lecreuset.com/blog/cooking-class-indoor-grilling.html. Thanks!
