    My bet is that if dyno'd with shorties and stock, the shorties make more power, but sometimes the power band moves up in the rpm range where it's seldom used anyway, so stock probably better for all around street performance.

    I had BBK shorties on my Ram, failed welds and cracks within 1,000 miles, total junk! Sounds like JBA are no better! Sucks you can't do the long tubes, even with legal cats? I threw out the BBK shorties and put ARH 1 7/8" long tubes with high flow cats and it made an UNBELIEVABLE difference mid range power and torque on my 392 build. It seriously feels like 50+ FT LBS of torque more down low, accelerating midly on the gas from a light is effortless now, before it was choked and worked hard! Hopefully you can find some 49 state legal way to do them? Best of luck!

    LOL so 4 smaller holes (sharing one tube) and 1 bigger hole, is better than 4 bigger holes(4 individual tubes) and a slightly smaller collector hole? Someone needs to read more about scavenging... the only reason the shorty header would perform worse is that you havent changed your intake/intake manifold along with it. Oem exhaust is tuned to perform with oem intake 😅🤷‍♂️

    • @TunedRAMS
      @TunedRAMS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well your mouth is one hole. Try blowing as hard as you can with your mouth open. Then make a hole like you’re going to whistle. Backpressure. So yes a larger outlet lets the air out faster wether sharing one tube or not.
      But tq gains are received with Shorties, so the backpressure makes sense. I mean ultimately long tubes are your best route. But manifolds IMO are better than Shorties. I just wish they wouldn’t warp so easily.

      I ported a set of manifolds on my 5.7 too, worked well until they cracked 2 years later and started making a ticking noise. At first I thought it was just another manifold bolt that broke but it cracked right behind cylinder number 7. Put a set of ceramic coated long tube headers on there instead and picked up 19 extra hp on the dyno. Headers are the way to go.

      @jaymoe5.7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@stumplimit I didn't cereamic coat them but I did take them to a local machine shop to have the gasket surfaces milled flat. They sealed great! I'm just assuming I took too much material off in the spot it cracked because I hogged them out pretty good. As far as the long tubes go though, they are a bit of a pain to install but the exhaust tone difference was well worth the 5 hours it took me to install them. Plus even though 19hp isn't exactly a big enough gain to feel much of a difference, the pedal does feel a bit more snappy and the engine seems to like the scavenging effect the headers add. In my opinion if you ever take the manifolds off and already have a set of long tubes they're well worth installing. I have remflex gaskets sealing them up and they havn't had any leaks in the 2 years and 30,000 miles they've been on the truck.

    With the larger ;primary on the headers, you lose the restriction and hard edge of exhaust trying to get into the manifold, so better flow. With the design of the tubing instead of a hard turn to the rear, you again get better flow. Yes, the output may be smaller on the headers, but since back pressure is also part of the equation for exhaust, maybe the folks who designed the header have tested it and found it needed a little more back pressure since you've removed some of the restriction? Just a thought. Also, maybe that install requires you change out the collector end to fit the smaller opening so it seals correctly. I understand your point of view, but I think you might be interpreting this particular situation incorrectly. Headers are always better flowing than exhaust manifolds. It's been a proven fact for years. You mentioned long pipes, but those give you midrange and high end power. If you're not doing a lot of mid and high rev driving, you aren't getting your money's worth. The shorty headers give you the low end up to mid range power. They're better for most driving conditions and still outperform manifolds at high revs.

    • @TunedRAMS

      Rob Hill long tunes are the way to go for performance. Manifolds are just as good if not better than Shorties, they scavenge the exhaust quickly

      I love you hit hit it on the head Rob! However, back pressure is a myth, ANY back pressure in a 4 stroke engine would be, at best, awful. The smaller collector outlet is to adjust for velocity of exhaust due to the increased flow. The back pressure idea has been mislabeled for generations but aside from the phrase you are 100% correct! Also, these Hemis actually do better down low with a LARGER runner, a bit counter intuitive to majority of the automotive world.
