Those who have watched the video, don't get a wrong message.
Under the most general circumstances, quitting a job or not taking-up a job is NOT advisable for CAT prep. This message is towards the growing trend of students not taking up a job and preparing for CAT for 1 year and then not doing well in CAT and then again preparing for a full more year, without working ... and later realising that there is a 2 year gap in the resume.
Already have a work-experience and then quitting, having given it a good thought and after weighing your options ....... does not close doors, it just comes at a cost ...... the cost being 'what if' .... and NOT a summary rejection at stage 2.
If you have performed very well in the exam, most probably, the panel will not even talk about a less-than-a-year break, especially if you have many interesting things to talk in an interview. Students have also been selected with 2 year break and a handful with even more. The problem is, the moment I say this, someone will interpret it as ..... 2-yr break does not matter in CAT. Just because someone was selected with 2 years of break .... does not mean that having a 2-year break is not an issue. IT IS an issue, a 2-yr break should be avoided at all costs. And if there is a 2-yr break, it would need to be over-shadowed by something very exceptional such that the break seems an aberration. Further there are many angles to it all of which cannot be spelt out.
To summarise .... IIMs do select students with a break, but this does not mean a break is harmless. Now, one more important stuff ...
Your worry about your profile( having work-ex or not, having a break or not) is misplaced. You biggest hurdle in getting an admit is NOT your profile .... it is getting 99+%tile in CAT.
And I will be savage here ..... students focus on their profile to such a extent that it suggests ....... as if getting a 99+%tile is a cakewalk, can be done any day, only if my profile was better. It is so ironical .... students worrying about and focussing on their profile ..... and ending up with 90-92%tile in CAT. Arre, with 90-92 %tile, anyways your profile does not matter.
Students, hope you are getting my drift. Be focussed on what matters and what can be controlled. Get that 99+%tile and if, even then the institute rejects you ...... it will be a loss of the institute, not yours, you would have gained a lot .... some other equally promising institute will select you. So, work towards getting a 99%tile and not half-hearted efforts at profile strengthening as a substitute for work-ex.

Hi sir, is it ok to leave your job after 2.9 years of work ex to take a break (to take up other interests) and prepare for CAT/GMAT?

Sir, suppose I quit my job and join some NGO, Crack some standard certification courses, join toastmasters International, do some freelancing in the gap year, this all together with my CAT preparation. So, Can it compensate for my work ex??
    Kindly reply sir, 🙏

If you have a compelling reason, there arent other negatives that you need to cover-up or there are very strong positives which can easily eclipse the break, you can consider quitting.
You dont have to do any NGO work, certification, freelancing just for the CV sake. All these activities, if they dont fit in holistically with your plans, personality, goals, then they just add jagged edges to your profile or make your entire profile very confusing or may end up with discussions in the interview going on these directions and if you are not strong in these areas then your selection gets more difficult.
Please consider this above advise seriously. OR else it may happen that ....you have absolutely no inclination towards social sector and you have 3 months of NGO experience and they will grill you on this sector and find that you are just fooling them .... a sure shot way not to get selected.
Or you did 6 months economics course, out of the blue, obviously you dont know enough and if they decide to question you on this, it will only worsen things for you rather than help you.
You get 0 credit for just doing something cursorily. What they are looking for is commitment.
So, do something to divert your mind from CAT prep, you dont need more than 4-5 hours daily for CAT prep. So to use your time productively, do something. And do it in an area that interests you, in which you already have or strongly desire to gain understanding.

Hello sir, would really appreciate some advice.
I've cleared CFA Level 1 exam and will be graduating this year with a BSc in Data Science from Mumbai University. I'm sure about building a career in finance but I might not be able to manage CFA, CAT, and a job all at once. So, I'm planning on not taking up a job to prepare for CFA L2 and CAT both for this november attempt. Is this a bad idea?
Jobs I can get right now would be data analyst type roles in finance domain.
