BTS "DYNAMITE" | FIRST TIME REACTION VIDEO (EP035)
We had both never heard of BTS except for other people talking about how amazing they are. Turns out we had heard bits of their stuff. Even reaching across the sea into the USA. TikTok, Commercials, Movies and so on and so on. This talented group knows how to appeal to the masses.

it is extremely funny to me how you think you have them ALL figured out, what they are like, why are they so popular just from watching this one single music video. Just for the look on your faces and the shock value I would love to see you go through Jhope´s Baseline/hangsang live at Lolapallooza, Suga´s Daechwitta or RM´ s Joke without any more info. Better yet Cypher medley live and Fire/Baepsae/Dope medley from Wembley...then you MAYBE will start to scratch the surface of WHY people all around the world love them. AND that is still without delving deeper into any of their lyrics, where the real magic lies IMHO ( majority of which are written by the 3 rappers).
On one hand you acknowledge that US is just another country on the map, but on the other, you both (maybe subconciously) display many uniquely american traits that come across as vaguely condescending to the rest of the world, just an FYI.
In april this year, BTS sold out 4 shows in the Allegiant stadium in Las Vegas in a matter of minutes, (that is cca 230k tickets BTW) In the audience there were people from all walks of life, social status, education, race, gender and most importantly age. They are not there because BTS are pretty and sing catchy pop songs. It goes way deeper than that. If you decide to do more and learn about them it has a potential to be a very rewarding experience for you.
    or not. 💜💜💜
    Have fun either way

They enjoyed the song and the group. They liked their whole vibe. No where was there any condescension. I think you've have had to defend your love for them so often that it's become second nature to overanalyze. I am sorry you've had to do that. Everyone has their own preferences and likes and dislikes. It isn't an attack on what an artist have accomplished. Certainly ,as musicians ourselves, we respect the dedication it takes to write, perform and live that existence. We hope people give BTS a chance, and not judge just based on looks n such. Thanks for watching and we will be watching more of them we promise!

If you watch a couple more mvs besides the English ones, you know why they are famous. I am 47 years old, I have been through many eras like the 90's and so on, but I was never into any artists or groups even though I listened to every artists. BTS are different, I will let you discover on your own. I suggest a couple that are totally different. Mic Drop, Black Swan, On Kinetic Menifesto Film, Life Goes On, and Boy with Love. Turn on the CC if you watch their mvs. FYI, BTS have 3 very good rappers. One just performed at Lollapalooza.

They have 3 english songs that they released during the Covid-area just to cheer up the fans during hard time. Those 3 songs were not written by themselves but all their other music is made by themselfs. These are good songs but does in no way represent what BTS is about. They do pretty much every genre. They started out as a rap/hip hop group. Of course they have more pop-song as well but mostly they do rap mixed with vocals. You'll see if you keep a opened mind

Try doolsetbangtan for acurate translations. Because a fun sounding song may just stop you in your tracks when you do understand the lyrics. Good songs entertain and make you forget the world during its duration but great music may change your life view and at least make you think/challenge you. (some of the songs are in Japanese)
Their label was actually very small and almost no conections in a very saturated music market. At the beginning of the millenia there were already over 100 Idol groups debuting in a year (more now) with far better controll of the market. BTS is the best now by far and they only debuted in 2013. (they were in fact the best selling artist worldwide in 2020 and 2021)
Their label has now managment of artists like Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber and at a guess of Times Magazine - who named them one of the 100 companies changing the the world (Innovation; the only music label; Spotify is also on the list) - 1600 employees (and multiple labels and artists).
BTS spoke at the White House with Biden in the Oval Office against Anti-Asian hate. They had 3 UNGA speeches and a performance there; got diplomatic passports for the third one in the Blue House; an order of cultural merrit where they were the youngest to receive the honor (usually takes 20 - 30 years to be able to get it). There was even a law created for them that delayed their military service. BTS also got an award for the diplomatic connection between the USA and South Korea (they were the only entertainers on that list; usually military people and high managment of big companies)
Artificial? Try bby gang mag's video essays like "BTS vs. K-pop"; "you are wrong about K-pop" and "BTS: More than k-pop". He is very good. They are very involved in their own output. Suga has gotten awards for his producing skill. RM has done numerous collabs with other artists and written for others.
We all hope you listen with an open mind. Thank you.

@@MixItUpPodcast Doolset Bangtan lyrics is a good site for translating BTS lyrics and providing sociocultural context especially when there are Korean to English wordplay, cultural idioms which will be odd to you because the English terminology may not accurately describe the meaning of the lyrics & there will be lots of wordplay, double entendres and some words literally when translated in English will be words that you encounter for the first time eg the sociopolitical song "Baepsae" = crowtit (a small bird that has short legs) which then is used figuratively in their song. Another helpful approach is to watch the explanations of specific songs. One channel that does this well is DKDKTV because they are Koreans.

First of all your comment about them being famous because you dated a woman who looked like one of them was rude and gay (nothing wrong with that, just saying). They are actually famous because they sing about issues that matter in most of their songs. They sing in Korean AND English so people also love that. They have been world stars since like 2015, this just happens to be a random English song of theirs you listened to. @sofieknudsen890 2 ปีที่แล้ว +30

I don't know if you'll continue these reactions but heres goes: All 7 members are extremely talented and BTS would not be the same without all 7 members. People do have a bias (favourite) member though, and that is FINE! Having a bias does not mean that you don't love the other members, but there is just sometimes one or two that you connect with more than the others. Maybe after learning more of their personality and listening to more songs you will chose a favorite. And maybe after some time you'll chose another favorite. All of this is fine and you are more than welcome to share who your favorite are! ARMY won't be mad about that, not at all! I do want to "warn" you though: there is always one or two in the comments who are going to write something stupid, but don't listen to them! Real ARMY love all 7 members and respect that not everyone have the same bias.
For instance: my ultimate Bias is J-Hope. And maybe you're gonna see me writing comments with information about him as we go on or maybe even suggestions with him as a solo artist. But don't ever feel presured to feel the same way or react to my suggestions. I love them all and I'm here for whatever order you'll watch their music. They do so many genres and have many songs, and some of them might not be your taste and that is fine! There is a couple of their songs that I don't like but mostly I love their songs. As long as you'll be respectfull about it we want you to be honest!
I hope the comment sections are going to be full of love and informations about all 7 members. It can seem a bit overwhelming with all the informations about the band that you'll recieve, but no one expects you to remember all at once! So feel free to ask questions (even the same one again and again haha), because we are here to help answer them!
And don't feel bad if you have trouble telling who's who as we go on. You'll learn their name and faces soon enough

Hope you guys dive into BTS and understand that k-pop is not a music genre, but a music industry, an industry that moves very much differently from the america music industry, and that at this point BTS cannot be considered just k-pop, because they move different from the kpop industry and reached the american music industry through a massive support from their fans all around the world. They did that even when most of their songs are in Korean. They debuted in 2013, grown organically through the support of their fans, and debuted in America with a Korean song at the 2017 American Music Awards, so they were already big in America before any of their only three songs in english. Other k-pop groups still struggle to sell out arenas in their own country, or climb the billboard 200 chart. Meanwhile BTS can sell out stadiums all around the world, and climb the charts without bundles or whatsoever. BTS are trendsetters and the majority of the k-pop industry tries to follow their trends to get at least a little bit of success, (I'm not saying that it's bad to follow trends). But those k-pop groups fail everytime because most of their companies (i mean the companies, not the groups) are desperately trying to find the next BTS, when that's just imposible. Just as you can't find the next Michael Jackson, you won't find the next BTS.

    • @MixItUpPodcast

Yes we understand that. We are musicians. Interesting enough we didn't hear about them until we heard their songs in commercials and didn't even realize it. True on the last line. But both videos miraculously by some miracle Charles BTS's very first all English song! How did you come up with reacting to their first English song released in the second half of 2020? By the way dynamite also debuted at number one on billboard Hot 100. And it was the first of five in a row that were number one on billboard Hot 100. Three of the five songs were English language songs two were in Korean. This year BTS won artist of the year at the American Music Awards along with two other awards. They performed twice their own song and a collaboration with Coldplay. Recently I believed last year BTS were made special presidential envoys of youth and culture by the Republic of Korea! They got their credentials and red diplomatic passports just in time to accompany the South Korean president 2 The United Nations where BTS delivered their third speech at the United Nations! Almost forgot they performed their third all English song: "Permission To Dance" at the United Nations.

I had heard their name in passing and how popular they were but when we do that we dont do any research. It would defeat the purpose of a first time reaction. We really enjoyed the song and you guys gave us a great list of songs to check out. We cant wait to see and hear more. Thanks for watching!

    Enjoyed your reaction.
Just a little info for you. They really are not the usual Kpop, they broke the mold. You are listening to a very commercial track of theirs & first one in English.
If you listen to their music from 2013 when they first debuted, originally only as a hip hop group, but year by year how they're sound has grown musically into their own unique sound & how they have evolved as artists over the past 9-10years.
In addition, they have always written & produced nearly all of their music & each member is individually talented & has their own unique solo music & style.
They cover almost all genre's of music, from rap, hip hop, pop, amazing ballads, r&b & neo soul.
There is 9 years of music which is nothing like this particular track. So this is probably the worst choice of song to judge 'their sound' by.
I can see below many songs have been suggested by other commenters. Definitely worth listening to 😀

    1. Ugh
    2. Black swan
    3. Paradise
    4. 134340
    5. ON music video
Some of these don't have music videos so I suggest you find some lyric videos on a channel called dial or enjoy bts more.

People will learn and educate themselves the more they are exposed to different cultures and societies. I just hate when ppl start running their mouth before they even have a clue what they’re talking about

We've done a few since then, which came out six months ago. It's okay. Most people don't realize it. We also never claimed to know everything ... that would be weird. We are musicians. We listen to the music. We know the process, and we enjoy the art direction. We listen and learn. We grow. Art is subjective every person takes something different and connects to it differently. That is how we connect to art. We care less about original meaning or arching themes. For us it is about connecting to the material and discovering for ourselves what it means to us and what it could mean to others. This is more of a podcast than a typical reaction video. It makes things interesting, ya know? It's just fun for us! We get it is not for everybody and we totally understand if it annoys you. We are sorry about that. We just do what makes us happy and enjoy life!

THE top K Pop band of all time, the biggest music artists in the world right now...I'm 63, a retired writer/musician and I love these guys, admire them tremendously, and consider them the phenomenon of a generation. Please listen to their vast discography. This song is fun, but it is not representative of what BTS is capable of. They transcend genre. I would suggest Black Swan, ON Kinetic Manifesto: Film, Tear: Outro (the three rappers), Mic Drop, and their 2018 live performance at the MMA awards. Gracias!

It's okay, you're not the first. I did the same thing.
You really need to hear a minimum of twenty songs and watch their come-up story to really understand why they have such a huge fan base.
Also, note: the "groomed" comment made me cringe. Their company's mission statement and goal was to allow them to show their authentic personalities and not the "immaculate idols groomed amid studio culture."

It was a first time reaction but we got a bit more research from google and army. They speak on a myriad of topics ranging from suicide, female empowerment, love, generosity, social political, events in the world. They've put out albums and songs in japanese, english and of course south korean. They have been the first to have gone gold and been on the top charts in Uk, Usa as well as South Korea (a feat not accomplished by anyone). They started mixng genres (which we could tell by the song) into their music aside from actuallly writing tracks in blues, hip hop, trap, rock, punk, and other genres. All in all they done some amazing work. Which we will react to the amazing list you guys gave us thank you! Its gonna be a great ride. Do you think we should just do back to back episodes of bts?

Good reaction, thank you for keeping an open mind! I hope you'll react to baseline and Hangsang live from Lollapalooza. J-Hope (one of the rappers) performed at Lollapalooza in Chicago as the very first Korean to headline a major US festival. Broke multiple records and made history. It's a very big deal for BTS, Army and Korea. It would especially be fun to see a reaction after you've watched this disco-pop track. Baseline and hangsang is so different! (you can find the songs in one video. Only 7 minutes. It has a verse from "cypher pt 1 in it too...)

Ok. Kpop is just a label the rest of the world puts on any music that comes out of south Korea. Not an actual genre. They were not manufactured to put out there to get revenue. The company they signed with was close to bankruptcy at the time & the ceo specifically told the boy's that he didn't care what type of music they put out there he just had 1 rule. They had to speak with their own voices. Not recycled garbage but things they are actually going through. That's why they have a multitude of genre's and sing about politics, societal expectations, depression, self love, youth and female empowerment & much more

I think Lexie Liu is a Chinese artist. You can react to some of her solo stuff, she also did a song for KD/A with other Korean artists for a game. More was the song with her; other KD/A songs are good like Pop Stars and The Baddest. (Songs included on Beat Saber game).
Don’t know why YT didn’t suggest you guys earlier; I’m tired of ‘reactors’ that just hoot and scream with fake excitement for subs and say absolutely nothing of value as it pertains to what they see in BTS, they don’t discuss it or break it down. whenever i watch a people on a channel react to kpop i love going back to their first ever time watching it to see how much their views on it have changed. i find that most american reactors say and assume the same things about bts (ya know the typical stereotypes) but then as they watch more and more and the fans give explanations and info in the comments, they actually end up falling away from those stereotypes and seeing kpop for what it rlly is.
i look forward to seeing a lot more kpop reactions!, but also hopefully other korean genres that get pushed under the umbrella term in the west "kpop", like k hip hop, rap, r&b, indie, rock, metal, etc. (i highly recommend checking out hip hop artists from the label AOMG)
