Jungkook’s solo part was the highlight for me😭. His intro was so powerful. He sets up the mood for the song so well. His pronunciation was so good almost like a native speaker. His high note and adlibs at the end were insane too. He was feeling the vibe of the song. He completely smashed this concept🔥. I loved the song so much🥰.

This song is 70s disco inspired and i think they extended that into the music video. The cinematography, as you pointed out, has a lot of static camera shots with just little zooms and stuff here and there. Which is in line with filmmaking of the 70s. There wasn't a ton of moving camera shots except for like special occasions/shots that really called for it like the push in shot at 7:52 to introduce the new location and group dance moves. It was mostly static shots and zooms and motivated transitions/cuts like you pointed out. Which then puts the onus of being interesting/entertaining on the entertainers on screen and less on the camera moves to be flashy. So it's just a really nice little touch of consistency. It makes the video and song feel really cohesive with the vintage style they were going for.

There's also 80s and 90s in there, but yeah, the cinematography is 70s inspired, I'd say.
I love the retro dance references too! Flashdance, Footloose, Saturday Night Fever, Pulp Fiction... can any dancers call out others? 🕺💜

i heard you mentioned how some of the outside background shots were “flat” and how it was prob green screen. something to note is that currently S Korea has had crazy flooding and its rain season now and Lumpens posted a photo a while back of a rainy day saying “why” and he just posted how he was blessed for BTS and his team for adapting to the outdoor conditions. it goes to how well they can adapt to these situations and can still pull of a magical summer vibes mv like this without actually filming most of it outside. it’s also kinda ironic knowing that the static camera style points to the older methods but still in line with current times using green screen/editing.
I just watched the shooting sketch for Dynamite and the car was real!! I was so surprised, it looked like it was green screen

Other than the dance moves, i think some of the scenes and the gesture... are inspired from Michael Jackson’s MV.

Fun Fact: due to COVID and such they actually could not go outside at all to film this from what they said in their own reaction. I don’t know if this is solely the reason for the Visual effects used but the fact But I think it makes it even cooler. Pretty sure it means they hand built all these sets and have them in house using lighting to mimic each scene. I mean that’s one of the reason I love Lumpens their sets are always so super detailed and usually almost entirely built specifically for the video. Making this with that restraint COVID is causing I’m just super impressed
I don't know if it was covid so much as the torrential rains which prevented them from shooting outdoors

Yea, not really due to covid. It was monsoon season and we had continuous rain for like 50 days or something like that! Lol
I appreciate this being put into words. I mean, we all can all SEE the camera work and how it flows together, but it's nice to have it expressed verbally by someone who knows how it all works.
IIRC, this is the first BTS MV I'd seen, although I'd listened to them some before, and it struck me as very professional and expensive. Not in materials, since they're in sneakers or whatever and a lot of it is probably green screen, but more like, if you wanted these guys to do your video, it'd cost you. Every move on point, every hair in place, every shot perfect. Very clean. Of course, what I know about MV production is about the same as what I know of astrophysics, so... :-)
I love your reactions, it's so refreshing to watch an editors perspective! You always manage to point out little details that I hadn't noticed the first few times watching such as transitions and your explanations are always straight on point!!

#NoSteadyCam it was SO COOL how they made the shots simpler to give a vintage feel & I was definitely able to fully appreciate the actual music, member's center moments, and the scenery better because of it.
i felt for a while that kpop MV can get to the point of overwhelming, so this change of pace was refreshing and iconic for global stars like BTS. Well done director!

Lumpens enthusiast! I am too amazed by this guy/team because each of Bts mv are having different vibe. And sometimes it has different kind of style too like no way it came out from one same person! And the details too! I'm followjng this series of a kpop group goes through the memory lane back in the 90's..and they had Lumpens directing their mv. He put every little details on the mv and using their inside jokes as background. That small ass details takes effort and passion! And it delivers the message of the song well! Lumpens, man...
