  • Back to a familiar spot with the Manticore fitted with Mate coil, to see if any good stuff can be found in amongst the trash.

    Great going, Gary, on the George 3! Yours is only the third I've seen that could be called "chopmarked", Guy @The Gold Rush Guy had an 1817 G3 shilling with the letter "M" punched into George's forehead. That video was 2013 vintage! Recently @The History Digging Kangaroo, William had an 1820 in great condition, features a Chinese character chopmarked to his neck!
    Unsure why there'd be five chops to yours, but it was a merchant or trader's verification, and could have happened anywhere in the world, the Chinese marks done in China, how some early British coins ended up here, not with Brits but the Chinese! The coin dealer, Mark Nemtsas of "The Purple Penny" in Mawson Lakes, Adelaide, wrote about and showed a Lima, Peru 1710 8 Reales that had a good dozen chopmarks, Chinese, Burmese, Templar, on each side!
    Sufficient to say they're rare, tells of international trade ages ago, and are highly sought, but exceptionally scarce!
    Cheers from Gabi of Narre Warren ✌️🪙⛏️

      Thanks Gabi for that great information as I had no idea about the chop marks. I was wondering about them as they seem to be in a sort of pattern- like a "5" on a dice. All the best and thanks again.

      Thanks Camille. Great when the old grass is burnt off so you can get the coil nice and low.No new growth here as it hasn't rained in months. Thanks for watching.Cheers.

    What a way to finish the vid, I bet you weren't expecting a coin of that age, in that area, it's 50yrs older than my oldest silver, shame about the damage, But judging by your reaction, I'd say you have found quite a few around that era, very nice find! The plumbob type item reminds me of a curtain pull. Yep! I'd be getting back there before the grass gets hold of it again, it's so nice to swing wide without the interruption of heavy tufted grass! Cheers Gazza, great hunt!

      G'day Wayne. I was very happy to see that area had been burnt.So much easier to swing close to the ground now.Yes, I've found a number of George III coins over the years,but generally you have to be on older sites. This one was a big surprise as there was only more modern finds in that area.A real fish out of water! Cheers mate.

    Well done mate. The chain thingy looks like the one that was at the end of the chain on the overhead cistern for flushing the dunny.

      Thanks Paul. This chain pull is quite small and I think the dunny ones would be much bigger.Cheers mate.

    Hey Gary, nice hunt, I sometimes wish I could burn the grass like this on some sites 😂 that was a nice old silver 208 years old 😅 I wonder if that damage was done around the dates of the coins you have been finding or maybe there’s older history in this spot too 🤔
    It looks like they put it on a anvil or something (just noting the flat raised spots on the other side) it looks like the “5” pattern on a dice 🎲🤔 hopefully there’s still some more treasures yet to come from the site 👍🏼

      G'day.First George III I've found for quite a while and very unexpected in with all that more modern trash. I thought too it looks like a 5 pattern. Why or when that was done-who knows? Cheers mate.

    Nice 1 Gazza looks like nice sandy soil . Plenty of targets still. Love the old sixpence. I haven’t found 1 for ages lol.

    • @DetectingOz
      @DetectingOz  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      G'day Paul. That's why I go there over the drier months because the sandy soil is always easy digging when clay soils are like concrete. Always lots of targets there to dig and the old sixpence was very unexpected.Cheers mate.
