  • In this video, we will continue where we left off and take the lettered lines, or the B Division of the NYC Subway. And since there are a ton of lettered lines, we will take the IND lines, or the lines going from A to G, plus the Rockaway Park shuttle.

    I really am enjoying this series so far!!! You should ride and rate non subway trains that still run in the metro area. Ideas I have are Metro-North, LIRR, SIR, PATH, AirTrain JFK, Roosevelt Island Tram, NJT Commuter Rail, Amtrak, HBLR, Staten Island Ferry, & your favorite bus route from the metro area. Let me know if you like these ideas :)

    I love how people view 7 minutes as unacceptable for frequency! No shade at all. Anywhere else in the US, that would be great. But not in NYC!
    In my hometown, buses run every 45 minutes. 😮

    As someone who uses the A, B and D I will say that
    1. the DeKalb experience you had seems to be universal as the D takes a nap there almost everytime (and pretty much kills the headways for the D as you might have to wait 10-18 minutes for an Uptown D from Bway - Lafayette to even up to 59th St during offpeak hours) which honestly if the MTA isn't planning on deinterlining DeKalb anytime soon they should send the B to the Bronx all times of the day because if not the 4 will just keep taking all the passengers
    2. Uptown express trains on CPW usually are faster than downtown express trains (idk why really but they usually get really fast around 103rd - 110th due to the elevation change most likely) and the D usually is faster than the A because it gets priority almost everytime
    3. Concouse Express service is pretty good until you get to the section around 167th - 161st where they crawl and where the Local no joke outspeeds it even with it having to stop until the express gets by at 155th st
    The rides you got were pretty much right on with the averages which is great because I expected the worst case scenarios with those 3 trains

    • @_nolan_nolan
      @_nolan_nolan 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Any Idea as to why the D gets priority over the A? It would make more sense for the A to get priority over the D since it’s served much more important and populated areas than the D. I can understand the B getting priority over the C but not the D over the A

    • @Reformperson
      @Reformperson 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@_nolan_nolan I’m not sure but the A needs more capacity because of the amount of terminals that it has. To fix the 59th St Junction the A would be routed between Norwood 205th St and WTC. The B to Inwood would remain but it would run to Coney Island on the Sea Beach Line. The D would also be routed on the Inwood Branch but would run between 168th St and Bay Ridge 95th St. This kicks the C away from CPW and then running along QBL instead to 179th St and then taking over the southbound terminals that the A had, giving Lefferts and Rockaway Residents more Frequent Service and if they want Local Service on Fulton they can transfer at Euclid for an E Train there.

    • @ianhardy9375
      @ianhardy9375 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The A is fine with operating 207 street and Far Rockaway at all times, we just need the Queens link which connects the QBL to the Rockaway line which doubles capacity and it can be utilize 24/7. Second, finish the second avenue subway entire length and extend to connect with the local tracks of the Fulton street line which requires relocating the transit museum and it gives people access to the east side using the new line, the E would swap lines with the C train by operating express on the eighth avenue and Fulton street lines, ending the service at Lefferts Blvd while the C train operates between 168 and WTC full 8:05 local. The B train service cannot change currently since it's only useful during weekdays and the terminal points that the B ends at are already occupied by four routes, three of them are 24/7 and the change for the B train was made to prevent alternating to the 63rd street line, utilizing a shuttle on the Fourth avenue and west end and this route doesn't have the same treatment as the three routes who are able to use both bridge and tunnel and work around it, in the case of the Dekalb junction, the agency has no intention of deinterlining since they wanted to give people flexible in choosing a route for direct or change trains whenever they choose while alterations only occur at late evenings, night and weekends. The last thing we need is another change that comes with controversy

    As someone who lives along the G, I can personally agree that its frequencies are horrendous. Most of the times it’s every 7 minutes but there are some occasions where the next train will be in like 4-5 minutes and then the next in like 10-20 minutes, which is just wholly unacceptable for such a used line in the system.

      @@jointransitassociationyeah and most of the long wait times are due to the merging conflicts. The worst Junction in the B Division has to be the 59th St Junction which is why I proposed the A to go to Norwood and the B and D on the Inwood Branch. I mean it makes sense since the tracks that the Rockaway Beach Branch uses are connected to the IND Rockaway line. They are hoping to make Woodhaven Boulevard an express station as on the local tracks on QBL. You can see the Bellmouths ready in place. You can see the abandoned Rockaway Beach Branch at 3:34
      In addition I would personally send the G down to Rockaway Park but I don't mind the M going there instead. I just preferably want to keep the M to run to Jamaica 179th St instead of Rockaway Park since the F will run local on QBL so having the G going to Rockaway Park for me makes sense.
      Essentially TTA on his video about De-interlining the IND Fulton Street line to its limits video he has
      E: Jamaica 179th St to Lefferts Blvd and Far Rockaway
      C: (It's denoted as the K but we are going to reroute the C away from CPW) Run from Jamaica Center to Euclid Avenue
      F: Jamaica 179th St to Coney Island
      M: Jamaica 179th St to Metropolitan Avenue
      G: Church Avenue to Rockaway Park
      Essentially to summarise how they will operate
      E and C will run Express on QBL and the E will run Fulton Express while the C runs Fulton Local
      F and M will run QBL, 6th/63rd St Local and the F will run Culver Express
      While the G will run Culver and Crosstown Local
      Extra Notes: For this to work more efficiently I would personally upgrade the G to 10 cars

    I have a feeling you’re gonna give the R a very low rating when you do the BMT video. I only had a few problems with the R, and one of them was due to DeKalb shenanigans (a D train was running local in front of it on the 4th Avenue line). My other gripe with the R was the frequency on QBL. Since the M train wasn’t around due to the reconstruction of the 63rd Street branch, the R was all on its own as the MTA didn’t even bother extending the G to Forest Hills to provide extra service on QBL Local.
    My plan to improve the R would be to send it to Astoria and have the G take its place, while the E and F handle 53rd and the M handles 63rd. I know that is reverse branching, but I’m not a big fan of the F running local on QBL. I would also have the N run with the R along 4th Avenue local while the B and D handle 4th Avenue express, and West End, with the B terminating at Bay Parkway while the D continues on to Coney Island. The N will handle Sea Beach while the R heads to Bay Ridge-95th Street. The Q and W will handle Brighton, with the Q running express and the W running local. The W will run local to Brighton Beach while the Q continues on to Coney Island. There might still be some delays at DeKalb but this is to have the N and Q split from each other, as I have both of them headed to 96th Street on the 2nd Avenue branch.
    Thankfully the B and D will be unaffected as both will skip the station. To split the B and D, however, we would have the B replace the C to 168th Street, and the C run with the D along Grand Concourse.
    While the R won’t have proper access to a yard, it can share trains with the W at Astoria-Ditmars Boulevard, until a yard is constructed next to the ConEdison plant to store both R and W trains.
    Feel free to express your thoughts on my plan.

    • @Reformperson
      @Reformperson 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The better plan for the R would be to send it on the 63rd St Line with the M so that the express trains are separate from the local trains. This also means that the R would be express in Brooklyn and Manhattan requiring it to use the Bridge. The N would still remain as Astoria but run on the West End Line the Q then takes the Sea Beach Line while the R goes express in Brooklyn until 36th St and then go local south of there to access Bay Ridge.
      The B and D would run together but on Brighton.
      The C and D lines would be swapped as the C would end at Norwood While the D goes at 168th St by having the A and C express on CPW and running extra E Trains we can have the A/C running express on all of Manhattan and then send all C Trains to Lefferts Blvd, and the A Trains to Far Rockaway. The B remains unaffected and this provides a clean separation while maintaining express service on both branches. By doing this we have some E Trains alternate between 179th St and Jamiaca Center until we can extend the E past Jamaica Center to either Springfield Blvd or Rosedale. Preferably I would want to extend the E to Rosedale Francis Lewis Blvd to connect with the LIRR, and so that it can handle more trains.

      @@ReformpersonI see that as a no brainer but I won't try and argue
      Remember the IND Fulton Street video on how he booted the A off Fulton and rerouted the C to go via QBL instead?
      Here is how I would go and using his videos
      A: CPW and 8th Ave Local from Norwood 205th St to WTC
      B: CPW, 6th Ave & 4th Ave Express from 168th St to Coney Island via Sea Beach
      C: QBL, 8th Ave Express and Fulton Local from Jamaica Center to Euclid Ave
      D: CPW, 6th Ave, 4th Ave Express & 4th Ave Local (After 36th St) from Inwood 207th St to Bay Ridge-95th St
      E: (Without Queenslink) QBL, 8th Ave & Fulton St Express from Jamaica 179th St to Lefferts Blvd, Far Rockaway and Rockaway Ok
      E: (With Queenslink) Same thing as without Queenslink except without having to serve Rockaway Park more about that later
      F: QBL, 6th/63rd St Local & Culver Express from Jamaica 179th St to Coney Island
      G: (Without Queenslink) No Service Changes
      G: (With Queenslink) Extended from Court Square to Rockaway Park via Culver, Crosstown and QBL Local meaning G trains will run between Church Avenue and Rockaway Park
      M: QBL, 6th Ave/63rd St Local and only service change is being extended from Forest Hills to Jamaica 179th St
      N: 2nd Ave, Broadway and Brighton Express from 96th St to Coney Island
      Q: 2nd Ave, Broadway Express and Brighton Local from 96th St to Ocean Pkwy (Note the N and Q can switch if liked)
      R: Broadway and 4th Ave Local from Astoria to Coney Island via West End
      W: Also with the R but ending at Bay Parkway
      The Reason why I have the A go to Norwood instead of 168th St is that it can use Concourse Yard and the B and D can share 207th St. However, B trains will have its primary yard at Coney Island and B trains will also use the small 174th St Yard. 207th St Yard is there for the B train to store extra trains
      C and E trains will mainly use Pitkin Yard while F, M and G trains share Jamaica Yard
      B, R, N and Q trains will use Coney Island Yard.

    I need to vent some rage right now. I know safety is supposed to be a top priority, but it is possible to be too safe. Starting in 2014, downtown 6 trains have to stop at a red signal about 1/3 the way into the 125 St station. Why? Downtown 4/5 trains enter the station at the same speed, but don’t have a red signal. Uptown 6 trains entering Union Square have to stop at a red signal about 1/3 the way into the station. Why? Uptown 4/5 trains have no red signal, and they enter the station at a much higher speed.
    I used to ask myself what was the purpose of the red signals in the 14 St tunnels. Seriously. Granted I haven’t ridden the L train regularly in years, but when I did ride and look out the front of the train, I noticed that many operators wouldn’t bother slowing down for the red signals in the tunnels. It was because they knew that right before they reached the signals, they would turn from red to amber. So I really couldn’t help wondering what the purpose was. And finally, a few years ago I read an interview with an operator on the 4 or 5. The operator stated that the express run from Franklin Avenue to Atlantic Avenue used to be a breeze. But once they “improved” the signals with timers, the express run is brutal.
    So like I said before, there is such thing as being too safe, even in the NYC subway. (And with the 6 being my local subway lines, I can assure you that I’ve only discussed the tip of the iceberg.)

    You didn’t do the full B line. The full line terminates at Bedford Park and serves the local Concourse stops the D doesn’t. The B is to the D as the C is to the A

      It is a rush hour extension. Also, the B on Concourse is the same as the D local on Concourse. I have taken the B on Concourse before, just not for this video.

    You did a very good on your recent review of the B division, but can I ask you a question, going back to your statements of the F train, would you agree that the F train should bypass more stops than it actually does? Meaning, the only place that the F train should be local at is in Manhattan on the 6th Avenue line, and also would you agree that transit should extend the M and the R trains to 179th Street so the F train doesn’t have to make any more local stops after 71st Avenue to 179th Street, I think they should but what are your thoughts and anybody could comment on this.

    • @harveywachtel1091
      @harveywachtel1091 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Just after the Archer Street extension was opened, the R did run to 179th along with the F on the express tracks, at least at some times, but this was changed not long after [I don't remember how long]. Either the MTA determined that the demand wasn't sufficient or they were budger-cutting.
      The fact that Bergen Street station lower level is out of commission makes it completely unfeasible to run all Fs express in Cobble Hill and Park Slope; access to/from Manhattan would be awful. One-way express on the Culver el would bypass most of the passengers that the line serves.

      @@harveywachtel1091 Very good points that you made about the F train and please let me share my insights with you, historically the transit system of New York made a huge mistake when they had the first two lines of the Queens Blvd line the E and the G trains not run together after 71st Avenue. What should of happened was the G train should have terminated at 169th Street and the E train should have terminated at Parsons Blvd in 1937 initially. When they created the F train in 1940 and had the F train run express all the way to Parsons Blvd and the E train local after 71st Avenue to 169th Street, the created a nightmare for themselves for the future. This is what I mean a nightmare, when the Archer Avenue line opened in 1988, they did keep the F train running express to 179th Street and they did extend the R train to 179th street only for 4 years. Here came the issue, when the transit system extended the R train to 179th Street, they should have extended the G train to 179th as well despite the fact that they extended the G train to 179th Street at nights. I am very aware that this might have caused a overflow at the 179th Street station, but during the rush hours it should have been every other local train that would terminate at 71st Avenue and the others go to 179th Street. If that would have occurred, the passengers would have had far less to complain about when it came to getting service at their respective stations. The MTA had it right, but there was still something missing to the equation at that time. As far as the Brooklyn side of the F train is concerned, years ago when they had the V train, they should of had the V train run as the local duplicate of the F train from Church Avenue to 179th Street via the 53rd Street line.

      Kevin b, I think we should extend the G it to Jamaica- 179th street since it would avoid the merge seen at east of forest hills with some alterations of each line of QBL.
      E: 53 Street lcl/ 8 Ave Express, QBL express all times(always express).
      F: express after Chruch avenue or Jay Street, 53rd Street/ 6 avenue lcl, QBL/ Hillside Express, all times.
      G: Full local to 179th Street
      All times.
      V: 63rd Street/6 Avenue local, QBL local, Culver local
      To rockaway park.

      C: To Jamaica Center from Euclid Ave running Fulton Local, 8th Ave and QBL Express
      All times: (Including Late Nights because C trains don't run during late nights)
      E: To Jamaica 179th St from Lefferts Blvd and Far Rockaway running Fulton, 8th Ave and QBL Express
      F: Culver Express, 6th Ave/63rd St Local and Hillside Local to Jamaica 179th At from Coney Island
      G: Now why would I send the G to Rockaway Park instead of the M/V train? I personally don't mind if either the G or M gets sent to Rockaway Park but I personally would keep the M with the F.
      So G trains will run Culver, Crosstown and QBL Local from Church Avenue to Woodhaven Boulevard then via the Rockaway Beach Branch to Rockaway Park.
      Also at All times as well
      M: I'm keeping as it is but extending it past Forest Hills to end at Jamaica 179th St with the F but in order to improve capacity we need to rebuild Myrtle Junction between BMT Jamaica line trains and IND 6th Ave Trains
      Oh and Yeah M running there at All times since they only run there between like 6:30 and 10:30 before cutting back to Delancy til 11:30 then becoming a shuttle overnight.

      @@jointransitassociationI’ve taken the E only a few times on the QBL. It was going at an average speed of around 30 mph past 65th Street. I have yet to ride it to Forest Hills-71st Avenue if it usually crawls past 67th Avenue.
      Anyways, when you do a video rating the BMT, my guess is you’re gonna give the R a really bad score, and I can understand why. It’s been rather infrequent on QBL, and even more since the M is unable to run to Forest Hills due to reconstruction of the 63rd Street tunnel (if only the MTA would just send the G back to Forest Hills to provide extra service for the R). The one other problem I’ve had with the R was when it got delayed due to DeKalb shenanigans, not to mention that there was a D train running local in front of it.

      @@jointransitassociationtrue as I have ridden the R but the length of the route and it being local everywhere is annoying. A partial change would be to route the R on the 63rd St Tunnel with the M so that it doesn’t interfere with the N Trains going to Astoria. The R would use the Bridge and we would have to send the D Trains on Brighton for that Deinterling plan to work as that would fix DeKalb Junction as well.
