Chicago's Trump Tower really set the mood for adding more supertall structures to Chicago's iconic skyline. I was really disappointed when the Spire was cancelled and the giant hole adjacent to Lake Michigan is a total eyesore. Although now seeing what happened to midtown Manhattan with those pencil-thin skyscrapers for the uber rich, I'm ultimately glad this project never got off ground.
Never knew about that Tour sans fin, it would still look pretty amazing. The one cancelled skyscraper I would have loved to have seen built is 80 South Street in NYC, another great design by Calatrava. Too bad the demand for $29m to $59m condos had dwindled quite a bit in 2008....

Happy New Year! This was a great way to start the New Year. Such beautiful, inspiring buildings (The Pinnacle is my favorite). It's a shame none of them were ever constructed. Maybe someone will get the rights and create them (or something similar). 🏗🏙😉
There is a skyscraper being developed in Seattle. At one time, it was proposed to be for 1,111 feet tall. If that were to be finished construction this year, it would be the 15th tallest in the US and the tallest west of the Mississippi. Unfortunately, the FAA didn't like that height due to downtown's proximity to Sea-Tac Airport. There's still no definitive height for the tower and a new proposal shows it at 1,185 feet. The Columbia Tower was designed to be 1,006 feet tall and that was in the mid-80s when only a handful of supertalls even existed. Seattle missed out on having a supertall then, so I hope this new one does get built as a supertall.
I'm not into modern architecture, but I like that building at 5:18 with the white edges (to the left of the skyscraper with the crane). Gives me dystopian vibes
