I appreciate y'all man. I'm 36 today, and this year is going to be my 3rd year to deer hunt and my second time on public land. I'm relying on y'all for my education. Thank you. Forever grateful.
This is totally an underrated way of patterning and mapping whitetails and you guys NAILED it! Well done as always, never seem to make it through any of these videos without learning something!
Showing the marked up OnX map really helps summarize the scouting session. I also like using the tracker feature to map the trails in a situation like this and then look at it later on the big screen to study why the trails and beds are where they are
Great series & I will be following again! Last years was awesome, I learn so much! I've had very good luck hunting ponds and even swampy little potholes.
Great video guys! I will watch content like this over and over. I really liked how you showed what you were talking about on the map and from the ground perspective as you were talking about it. Please do more of that.
Definitely will have to check back in the archives for a previous seasons' Mapping Whitetails series of videos. I really enjoy this combination of boots on the ground and e-scouting format. I have had a compound bow since 06' and been deer hunting since I was 10 or 12 and I am 36 now and have yet to release an arrow at a deer, buck or doe doesn't matter. I live in the northern panhandle of West "By God" Virginia and luckily am surrounded by about 1,000 acres my family is allowed to hunt, but have yet to have many an opportunity to arrow a deer aside from an average 8 point that I screwed up on. Hopefully this year will be the year since I also got my first turkey with my Dad after almost 2 decades of trying. I may look into public land in WV that is in some neighboring counties, and dive deep into it at least as far as e-scouting, with hopes for boots on the ground. I look forward to the next installment of the series. Thanks for sharing guys.
Last year my brother in law decided to put a man made water source on his ridge property. Took a 55 gallon drum plastic tank cut it length ways and dug it into the ground about six inches down. Placed it in and carried water to it. Now there is a creek at the bottom of the ridge on someone else's property. He put the only source of water on top of the ridge his pictures of deer went from 2 to 3 deer a day to 14 to 20 pictures of different of deer, some deer he never seen before. What changed his property so much was the deer were able to get water at the top of the ridge and look down watching for any danger rather than walking down and back up the ridge to travel to a water source .
Thanks for making these videos. Recently started using onX maps(and love it)....and you have help my learning curve. Im finding great deer sign during my summer scouting trips. Thanks THP!!! Best hunting show!!
Ponds in farm country up at the top of draws can be killer. Bucks will bed out near the tip of draw near the pond. And usually the crops are up high or low and bucks will love accordingly. Love it
Very good info guys every time I watch any strategy videos from you and a few other people I always pick up something that makes more sense outta why things are the way they are where I hunt, and the areas around available to hunt. Thanks for that! Any info that can help my success is awesome and y'all seem to hit the nail on the head with explaining so many situations from your experiences across the country and there's always something that any hunter can relate to. It's just magnificent thanks guys!
You guys do a really good job explaining what's going on and how to implement the strategies to be successful, I'll be using this stuff myself to be successful
Great video and great info! One thing that you forgot to mention, don't forget to carry your thermacell in the early season. The mosquitoes are terrible near a pond!
I've got 3 ponds on my private property and deer use them heavily their between 2 major bedding areas and the neighbors big corn field. Have seen some really nice bucks cruising through there. Never really hunted it tho. Just might have to give it a try this year
Very informative. I'd love to see you tackle scouting land that is heavily covered in pine. Paper company land that is a common theme. This year I am trying to set up in little finger areas where a few hardwoods were left.
What would be super cool. Convince on x to let y’all do a membership give away for the upcoming season! Would be super helpful to some young hunter that might not be able to afford it.
I guess I gotta rent that mini excavator and get to digging my hidden in the woods pond. We got some seasonal depressions But they hold water all year. Only a couple up turned oak trees where storms from hurricanes have uprooted them are still holding water. The depression is close to bedding...and turkeys roosting. Happy Hunting guys. Keep up the awesome hunting videos.
You guys need to add Fort Knox KY as a Deer Tour 2020 stop!!! Awesome WMA with some monster timber, terrain and deer. See ya in a saddle. Be safe and shoot straight!!!!
Are you guys going to be covering area that are primarily steep ridge tops and mostly dry creek bottoms? That would be great, also great video on ponds, definitely going to look at those areas on public land
I love watching.your videos. I've just started hunting and am trying to learn . As a rule how far will they normally bed away from a source like that? Or is it region/ area specific?
Seriously though what happened to jake’s hair? I thought it was ted with his new doo for a second. Then I was trying to remember if one of the new interns was named jake. I literally didn’t know for sure it was him till he started talking 😂
I watched for 6 minutes before i realized it was Jake. Had the volume low and was talkin so didnt realy catch his voice. I think i liked the mullet tho for real

YES! So pumped that you guys are doing another mapping whitetails series this year. I learned so much from last year's

Mad respect from all of us at Vikingbags brother!

Best hunting show on the web.
Love how you guys brought back this series, learned so many tips from last years.
I was just scouting the same way, this video pops up on my feed and I just giggled. Time to get after it!!!!
So glad y’all are doing another mapping whitetails series! We need some of Greg’s throwback hunts please and thank you

Good video guys, one of my favorite tactics.
Cant wait for this one because have an area this could come in useful..

Thank you so much guys your contents gets my heart pounding! Gotta take the boys out and start scouting!!!
Good stuff guys. Only 24 day and we will be in the stand chasing Tennessee velvet bucks. Hope y’all have an awesome season.
Great advice guys will be using the info while scouting.
Epic knowledge as always..can't freaking wait for this season
You guys do a really good job explaining what's going on and how to implement the strategies to be successful, I'll be using this stuff myself to be successful
Good insight love the content keep em coming
Great video and great info! One thing that you forgot to mention, don't forget to carry your thermacell in the early season. The mosquitoes are terrible near a pond!

I love this series I want a river bottom one
What would be super cool. Convince on x to let y’all do a membership give away for the upcoming season! Would be super helpful to some young hunter that might not be able to afford it.
Your hair cut through me a curve! Nice! Must have got you a girl in the off season.

Just seeing January 2020 but awesome as usual. You guys rock
Some great information.
You guys need to add Fort Knox KY as a Deer Tour 2020 stop!!! Awesome WMA with some monster timber, terrain and deer. See ya in a saddle. Be safe and shoot straight!!!!
Would love to see you do something like this out west.
JAKE!!! What happened!!?? Gotta feel better in that heat! Always deer around water. Can't wait for the season to start!
Are you guys going to be covering area that are primarily steep ridge tops and mostly dry creek bottoms? That would be great, also great video on ponds, definitely going to look at those areas on public land
I was like who's the Jake DB! Then when he spoke ..I was like Jake!!!!!!
Love the hair cut!
Yup. I was like who is the handsome fella next to Aaron.
keep it up fellas!
This came at a perfect time I just found a pond with some bedding on either side
Thanks for putting Jake's name under him at the beginning. I didn't recognize him!
Great video guys! I have a question though... How do y'all determine a potential bedding area from looking at the OnX maps?
I love watching.your videos. I've just started hunting and am trying to learn . As a rule how far will they normally bed away from a source like that? Or is it region/ area specific?
Jake... You won't kill a darn thing with your upper lip hanging out! Haircut is one thing but the 'stash!?!
Looks like you guys dropped some milkweed seeds at the pond ditch last fall. 😁
When are you doing your scouting and at what point do you stop so as not to have a negative effect on hunting?
You’d have to swat the water moccasins away down here in MS in that stuff.
Way off topic, but that was totally a piece of worked flint at 5:19 😀... Y'all ever find any artifacts when you're out and about?
Biggest buck that I ever released an arrow on was behind a public land pond a couple hours after a pheasant hunter walked near
"Spillway" is the word your looking for to describe the area where the water leaves the pond.
OK just p.m. me the GPS coordinates of that spot and I’ll let you know how good it was
I want some old videos of grey hunting
Where I'm from its mostly small beaver ponds and man made lakes.
Would you guys hunt that only if you saw a big buck there or are you just expecting there to be a big buck there
expecting one to be there at some point
Seriously though what happened to jake’s hair? I thought it was ted with his new doo for a second. Then I was trying to remember if one of the new interns was named jake. I literally didn’t know for sure it was him till he started talking 😂
I had a 30x40 foot pond on dug my property
Awsome video later thanks
Who in the world would not like this video! Like to smack the S... Out of them! Lol! Nice video guys!!
Haha im the same way with snakes Aaron... hate 'em
Did I miss something? Who’s the new guy with Aaron? LOL
Do you guys ever take a few doe
yes
Wish you would have touched a little bit on water thermals in this episode
Your ditch is called a “spillway”.
does anyone have a good app for terrain or mapping?
I watched for 6 minutes before i realized it was Jake. Had the volume low and was talkin so didnt realy catch his voice. I think i liked the mullet tho for real
Who's the clean cut dude? Don't recognize him
That is Jake! If Zach cuts his mullet in unsubscribing!
#bringbackthestache
Making your videos only 10 minutes should be a crime.
This has NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW TO ACTUALLY TRACK DOWN SOME GOOD PONDS.
