    Ben, I keep hearing you were on your last leg in your videos, yet you have made it through! CONGRATULATIONS! This is one reason I am working on starting my own food vending business. I am currently being hounded by the IRS, have bad debt and feel I am falling into a hole I cannot get out. This has to be the way out for me! Not to mention, I enjoy meeting people and fast food vending.

    Thank you for your informative videos about the hot dog business. I am a little old to start my own hot dog vending stand but, it's fun to hear you explain good, old-fashioned capitalism at its' best. Your videos should be required viewing for any college business school student. Most of those pencil-headed geeks who are teaching business school courses have never operated their own businesses and don't know their ass from a hole in the ground. You should be offered a chair at the Wharton School of Business. Best of luck in the future.

    You should redo this video and talk about the Bright Leaf Carolina Reds here in NC ... I sell between 40-50 of them every day ... mixed meat dogs dyed bright red! lol People here love their "Red Hots" ! I chop up fresh garlic to put in my water for my dirty water dogs!

    • @BensCarts
      @BensCarts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm very familiar with those. Not available in many places and even in Far east NC and west, no one knows them. They are very popular though in your neck of the woods. We have red ones over here near Knoxville that are very popular too.

    I 100% agree with the comment about Windmill dogs. Only thing is, they are $15 for a 2lb package. Too much to make a decent profit. They're custom made for Windmill by Sabrett. Blended meat dogs with a natural sheep casing.

    Ben great info always. I am looking at a hot dog cart 2-23-18 just wanted to no what your thoughts are on it. I am just starting. Here is the ad. The guy also sent some pics it is in really good shape as far as I know.
    And most of the one I see like this are over 2k used.
    It has storage at the top as well as a reservoir for water. It has a 3 tier sink with hot and cold running water. Propane is used for heating the hot dogs and the water. It is easy to move around with one person and hooks up to a hitch for long distance. It's also storage inside of it to carry supplies. $1,500 or best offer. If I feel the offer is reasonable I'll consider it.

    The whole point of eating out is to get the good food that you don't normally buy to keep in your home. People buy the chicken and pork dogs because they are $1 per pack and they can feed their kids for $1 but when they impulse purchase from a dog stand they DO NOT want that dog, they want the all beef 1/4 lb dog that tastes like "eating out" rather than paying premium pricing for what they already have at home.

    Just a heads up. companies pay for extra shelving. or it could be the difference between having a grocery store sales manager in the area. For example Jif peanut butter sells. Its the discretion of the grocery manager to put up a display for peanut butter. But lets say i have an organic peanut putter in all the Albertsons within 200 mile radius about 21 stores. If the sales rep for that company talks to grocery manager of 10 stores to put up a display of his organic peanut butter and they just liķe the sales rep or are friends . they will put up a display. and since its an impulse item it sells more. meanwhile the other 11 stores are only on the shelf and have no onè pushing for a display. another thing companies do is pay 40k a year for entrance displays. Doritos pays that for the wall of chips you see when walking into certain chains. So the companies force sales and make things look more popular than they are. but I understand your point.

    Thinking about setting up on my days off in a sleepy little town in Arkansas. I don't have permits and can't really afford a cart, or permits. Should I talk to the local police first and see if they mind me setting up? There are two factories in town close together and if I do a trial run, maybe make enough to get my permits and such, they might let me do something like this. I work 55+ hours per week already and I'm on straight commission so I don't know if I'll make a lot or not on a daily basis. Doing this for extra money may work with the factories that close with no cafeterias in either. They only have 30 min lunch breaks at different times for each department. Basically I'd have the hotdogs in a commercial 10x10 tent with an electric smoker with applewood. I'd have a folding table next to the order window with the ketchup, mustard, relish, etc. Using foil hot dog wraps, and a heavy duty foil lined cooler should keep the done ones hot right? I'll probably have access to electricity with the spot I'm trying to get. I've sold the smoked hot dogs before and everyone said theyre the best hot dogs they've tasted. Any tips?

    • @BensCarts
      @BensCarts  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      My first suggestion would be to listen and read all the different articles and shows we have done on location. There is a huge, vast amount of ideas there and anyone that has done that has been able to find a profitable location.
      It would take me a book to write all the different location ideas here so I would suggest going to learnhotdogs.com type location and/or locations in the search box and you will find tons.
      It may take you some time, but it works every time I send someone there.
      Let me know if that helps.
