    Kim had some errands in town, so I decided to join some friends on a short section overlanding the Washington backcountry discovery route (WABDR)! I didn't know that until about halfway through the trip, but this was truly unbelievable scenery. Come along and enjoy the brisk summer nights with me!

    That section 4 is so beautiful!
    The view on top of Chumstick Mountain is the best of the whole route!
    I was out there doing sections 2-4 about two weeks prior to you hitting it.

      Heck yeah. I’d love to do the whole thing one day! Would be fun to link up the Oregon BDR with the Washington BDR for an extra long trip

    Really nice video. It was relaxing but inspiring to get out and experience the beauty of the outdoors. I have been on one section of the WABDR and it was beautiful.

    My first video of yours - found you through my friend GrizzlyPath. I enjoy following other PNW overlanders. Your calm tone & pragmatic approach are very pleasant to watch.
    The WABDR can be amazingly quiet at times despite its popularity. June & September are some of the best times crowd wise with September typically having the best weather (though not so much these last few years)

      @ScaleofTwo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh hell yeah! And appreciate that 🤙🏼
      yeah, I was surprised at how empty it was, June was a good time to get out there. Only saw 2 other vehicles and a few ATVs.

    Head ons on trail are my biggest fear. They always have been but with the explosion of overlanding in the last decade there are alot more people and alot more who are inexperienced (plus there's now Side by Sides). My buddies and I have gone to running with headlights or bright amber lights on in the day. The amber really cuts through the trees and catches people's eyes. Something to consider.

      You just gotta do a whole lotta driving, sometimes they’re not so great sometimes they’re amazing!

    Seeing as you're Oregonians, I highly recommend Southwestern OR and Northern Northern CA - there are some truly beautiful mountains there and virtually no one in them.

      We actually just did a trip around Shasta. I was surprised at how empty it was, we saw almost no one out there in the middle of the summer. Southern Oregon cascades and southeast oregon are definitely on the list

      @@ScaleofTwo Yeah, I live on the Eastside of Seattle & usually travel around there but I've been working in Medford for the last year and I've been blown away by how beautiful the mountains and especially the creeks and rivers are - yet virtually no one here. I drove 200 miles on my trip down the California Salmon over a period of 7 hours and saw only 1 local counter traffic and absolutely NOONE going my direction, while driving or stopped.

      @@ScaleofTwo Several weeks ago I did a roundtrip down to Redding, out to the coast & back up 199. The Shasta area looked pretty interesting and I expect is probably completely empty most of the time. I scouted some spots via Gaia but it's way too hot to go there now - maybe in October (Medford was 105*F yesterday - I went to Bear Basin Lookout)

      @@TheKPDX we were there during a bit of a heatwave, it wasn’t too bad up in the mountains! I would definitely recommend getting out there, would have loved to stay longer

      Hey Harry, this is the WA BDR route. If you check out the BDR website (ridebdr.com), you can find some more info there. I would recommend if you're new to this, check out some easier trails using OnX off-road or Trails off-road apps. The WABDR isn't super challenging, but you should definitely make sure you know what you're getting into before you head out there! We've got a good video on our channel going over how we find campsites, so definitely give that a watch if you haven't already! Happy exploring
