Thank you for sticking around for the response video. And also thank you for the great idea! This video was fun to make and the response is great so far. 😀
Awesome comparison dude! The CE-1 Preamp just has some magic behind it that the Micro Amp lacks, but for the price it's a great substitute for those wanting to just push their amp a little more into that crunchy sound.
didn't johns old tech rip you a new one last year. i told me family about that and we all laughed over our expensive diner's while we shared good times... about how you messed that one up, omg! best day eva!
John actually used both (The original CE-1 and Micro amp) and never left one of them from the board. Actually I think the Micro Amp is most underrated pedal of all time - my favorite clean boost ever - and there is a big different between a new one and early 80's ones which john using. Anyway great comparison - both are great.
Yeah but did he have to use the Micro Amp too because of the long cable runs? Frusciante fans don't have to worry about super long cable runs, we're not rockstars.
Really good comparison video! I've been using the Triungulo Lab Crunch for the basic crunch tone BUT when I go for more BSSM sound I remove the CE-2W chorus and crunch and add DOD FX65 Stereo Chorus with the Micro Amp aswell. I think you could get away with only using the Micro Amp and settle for more of Frusciante live tone which has always been somewhat crunchier and gainy God bless 🙏
Sick! I’m thinking about my next pedals being the DOD FX65 and MXR Micro Amp. I’ll put them next to each other in the chain, will it do for Johns tones?
Great video man! I ve been quite surprised how good did the MXR Micro Amp deal with the Distortion & Wah effects alone! Having both the Chorus Ensemble and Micro Amp on board, I ve never thought of trying this since I use the Micro Amp only for solos - volume boost.
The micro amp doesn't really do anything aside from boosting your signal. So what you're actually hearings is your natural tube amp overdrive compared to the CE-1, not the pedal. So if you have a solid state amp, don't think that you're going to get the tone that was in the video. You need a tube amp, or more specifically the two amps in the video to do that. But the amp crunch really holds up well. The CE-1 probably isn't all that necessary if you can hone in on that.
Oh damn just checked out your channel from your comment on my old ass video and I see you are a big John Frusciante and a big Marshall fan and I am also both of those. Hell yea man! Time to go down a rabbit hole watching your videos :)
i'd say it's quite a significant price difference. i've been using the boost on a behringer super fuzz which was just $19. the micro amp is $80 whereas the ensemble crunch is nearly twice that. there's also a huge variety of boost pedals to choose from.
And the SF300 takes well the DS2 or the WH10? It's quite impressive for me, as people love that pedal due to fuzz sounds, and ignore the boost function
@@Vigi which country do you live in? Been meaning to ask. In America the micro amp goes for $80 USD with free shipping. But i know other countries have different sites with different prices (not to mention currency)
@@jorge.az07 the sf300 boost works well for pedal stacking. Cleaner than combining a distortion+fuzz, just put the boost before your distortion or fuzz. Works well either side of wh10. I got the pedal mostly for boost. Boost is really only good for getting extra gain from your tube amp or tube modeling pedal. But you can use it to push your other pedals too.
Great comparison! I actually never thought about using the micro amp this way, I‘m just using it like you mentioned before, as a normal gain/volume boost. Btw: are you using a made in taiwan ds-2 or made in japan?🤔 greetings!

ehi vigi! first I wanna congratulate for your knowledge about frusciante gear and sound! I also wanna ask you, the micro amp can add a crunchy sound even on a no-valve amp? case I'm using a combo amp, and I'm desperately looking for a crunch pedal...thank you very much!!
Can you tell me something about the chain/signal way? Is it in the way like the pedals on the video? And how would it be if I would use both. The MXR and the chorus ensemble?
Brilliant, i think there’s definitely a noticeable improvement with the CE1, I have the chorus on order so can’t wait to get my hands on it but you said something at the end which peaked my interest, regarding the jackhammer. I’ve been using the jackhammer to keep the DS2 and WH10 in check but what do you do for this?
so the preamp one is not just a boost but has its own clipping and tone for the crunch, right? i always assumed it was just an overrated boost but sounds like it has alot going on
Thank you! I love them! It’s the Fender vintage tweed strap. They’re so light and comfortable. 😍 However, I always wanted black ones and when searching to answer your question, I see they have something called “weightless” available in black. But I’ve already bought enough straps for all my guitars.. 😅
The CE1 sounded way better, but the price tag is too high for me I found, by trying lots of pedals that what works for someone may not work for everyone and in the end, it's all about trying. I get my crunch sound from the Joyo Deluxe Crunch and sounds clear and takes the DS2, Fuzzrite and WH10 quite well :)
hey! I also used the joyo DC for the "Frusciante clean crunch", and other cheap pedals as well, but it never got me that close with my setup. I remember with the Joyo I had to dial the DS2 differently like, level and dist maxed out but the tone at 12'o clock. Now I use the Morning Glory and feels more "legit" but I think the idea is to stop obsessing so much over correct settings and find your sound within John's palette.
@@Vigi i just can never keep my eyes off them while they’re in the shot and would love to hear talk about them as the centre of attention. Then again, completely up to you! :)
